Montana Locker Room Privacy Act Petition Needs Your Signature

Montana Locker Room Privacy Act Petition Needs Your Signature

We have been asked to partner with our dear friends at Montana Family Foundation to get the message out about an important opportunity to help ensure privacy, safety, and dignity to all boys and girls in Montana schools.  High school girls should never be forced to shower with a boy, even if he does think he’s a girl.  Unfortunately, that’s exactly what’s happening in school districts across the United States, and now the issue has reared its head right here in Montana.

We need your help getting the Montana Locker Room Privacy Act on the 2018 ballot.  This will require we get 25,000 signatures from registered voters across the state.

The Montana Locker Room Privacy Act, if passed, will allow boys and girls to be safe and secure in showers, locker rooms, restrooms, and hotel rooms that conform to their biological gender.  There are also allowances in this bill, such as single stall accommodations, for trans-gender students who feel uncomfortable in a standard locker room setting.

Take Action: Please go to and download the petitions, then READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY – so that the signatures you collect count! If you have any questions, please call Montana Family Foundation at 406-628-1141.

Pray:  Dear Lord, We ask for clarity for our confused culture.  We know your word says, “But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female’” in Mark 10:6. So today, Lord, we pray that you would touch the hearts of Montanans who understand the importance of fighting to protect our future generations and understand the importance of preserving the Montana way of life.

No Reasonable Reason for Tester to Oppose Gorsuch

By | Montana | No Comments

I do not envy Sen. Jon Tester’s position right now.  The left is enraged about President Donald Trump to the point of irrationality, and they are placing lots of pressure on senators to join in on their feverish campaign against anything and everything remotely related to the president.

Their AstroTurf campaign against Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court has been revealing. Even before the president had named his pick, they were protesting in front of the Supreme Court with printed signs that read “Stop” on the top and actually had a blank space at the bottom where they could write the name of whomever the president nominated — no matter their qualifications.

With that same faux outrage, they are threatening Sen. Tester and other senators up for re-election, demanding they, too, ignore the facts and oppose Gorsuch because of, well, Trump — or just to getback at Republicans for Judge Merrick Garland.

I hope Sen. Tester can see right through this and recognizes this is exactly what Montanans hate about Washington.  The irrational, partisan bickering that has no relation to reality.  Try as liberal groups might (and no matter how mad at the president they are), there is just no reasonable reason to oppose Judge Gorsuch.

Even the liberal American Bar Association gave Gorsuch its highest rating of “unanimous well qualified.”

As longtime Democratic lawyer David Frederick wrote in the Washington Post, there is just “no principled reason” to vote against Gorsuch.  He wrote, “[M]y hope is to have justices on the bench such as Gorsuch and Garland who approach cases with fairness and intellectual rigor, and who care about precedent and the limits of their roles as judges.”

And he is not the only liberal to express the same sentiment.  In a letter of support, more than 50 of his Harvard Law classmates, spanning the political spectrum, wrote:

We are Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians and independents; progressives, conservatives and moderates; religious and non-observant; married, single and divorced; men and women; straight and gay. … What unites us is that… we unanimously believe Neil possesses the exemplary character, outstanding intellect, steady temperament, humility and open-mindedness to be an excellent addition to the United States Supreme Court.

Another letter featured more than 150 of his Columbia classmates, with similar diversity, “united in [their] belief that [Gorsuch] would serve our country with honor and distinction on the Supreme Court.”

This is simply a non-controversial nominee.  But for the left’s anti-Trump proclivities, it would be one of the easiest votes Sen. Tester would face this year.

That was the case in 2006, when Judge Gorsuch was nominated to the second-highest level court on the land, the Court of Appeals (Tenth Circuit).  He was actually confirmed by unanimous voice vote.  It doesn’t get any more non-controversial than that.  Not a single Democrat expressed any concerns with Gorsuch.

The vote included the very top of today’s Democratic leadership: Chuck Schumer, Ron Wyden, Dianne Feinstein, Patrick Leahy, and Dick Durbin.  Not to mention the most influential leaders of the party for more than a decade: then-senators Barack Obama, Joe Biden, John Kerry, and Hillary Clinton.

Judge Gorsuch was not controversial then, and he is not controversial now.  His record has not changed.  The only thing that has changed is the political landscape.

Let us pray Sen. Tester does not focus on the small but very vocal unhinged left, asking him to throw away reason and join the mob against Trump.  They are certainly energized, but their energy is misguided at best and downright malicious at worse.

Montana deserves better than that.

CWA of MT State Director Kari Zeier: Will Gorsuch expose Senator Tester?

By | LBB, Legal, Montana, News and Events | No Comments

We’ve all seen how furious the radical left is about losing the election. I can understand their frustrations. What I can’t understand is their mind-numbing push to denigrate anyone and anything even remotely associated with President Donald Trump, ignoring the particular merits of every situation.

President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, Judge Neil Gorsuch, is the perfect example. By all accounts, this is a judge of impeccable character with the highest of qualifications. And he is being opposed by some in the Democratic leadership because of Trump.

The Moment We’ve Been Waiting For — Urge Senator Tester To Confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch Today!

By | Montana | No Comments

Dear Friend,

This is it. This is what we’ve been fighting for over the last year. We have a Supreme Court nominee, Judge Neil Gorsuch, who believes the Constitution should be interpreted as written. He is a constitutionalist who rejects the liberal proposition of a “living, breathing document” — this confirmation will help determine the future of our Supreme Court for many years to come.

On his website, Senator Jon Tester (D-Montana) said he wants to hear what YOU and other Montanans think about President Trump’s nominees. Sen. Tester holds an important vote, and as his constituent, we need you to contact him today and tell him to confirm Judge Gorsuch.

In a recent meeting with President Donald Trump, I, Penny Nance, promised that CWA National and our members would “light up the Senate switchboard” and make certain that his nominee is confirmed.

Together, we fought to ensure the American people had their voice heard in the election to decide who would select the nominee to fill Justice Scalia’s seat. This is the moment we have waited for, and we need your help now more than ever in order to secure the future of the Supreme Court for the next 30 or more years.

Call, visit and/or email Senator Tester and urge him to confirm Judge Gorsuch. Make sure you tell him you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Montana.

Check out our Legal Studies page for an overview of Judge Gorsuch’s qualifications and for daily updates. You can also sign our petition here.

Pray: For wisdom for Sen. Tester and that Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation process will be smooth and swift.

I am grateful for all of your hard work. It has paid off, and now we get to finish what we started nearly a year ago.

Thank you for your prayer and action,

Penny Nance

State Director Kari Zeier Testifies of God’s Grace at the Billings March for Life

By | Montana | No Comments

I was privileged to speak at the 9thAannual Billings March for Life last month.  Though I wandered from my original notes extensively, below is the gist of what I shared.  I pray it encourages and inspires you.

Kari testimonyAs I was praying about what the Lord would have me share today this passage from James 2:14-18 kept coming to me:

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?  Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.  If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?  In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.  But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.

We know that we are not saved by deeds but by faith alone through the blood of Jesus Christ.  However, the theme of dead faith without deeds is woven throughout Scripture.  Today I challenge you – is your faith supported by your deeds?  I have been convicted of this in my own life recently as I have been reflecting back on the many who reached out to me in times of distress throughout my life.

You see, I was adopted as an infant.  Thankful doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about my birth mother.  I literally owe my life to her because she chose life at a time when abortions in the United States were near an all-time high.  She was selfless and brave, and one day I hope I can thank her personally for choosing life for me.  I don’t know much about her, but because of my upbringing and my parent’s faith I have always been, without thought or question, pro-life.

When I was a teenager, I was sexually assaulted by a classmate.  This event hurled me into a downward spiral of destruction that included promiscuity, alcohol and drugs.  A home pregnancy test revealed my suspicion, I was pregnant.  I panicked.  A girlfriend scheduled an appointment for me at our local Planned Parenthood.  They gave me another test and confirmed that I was pregnant.  The woman began to tell me about my “options” and how I didn’t have to go through with the pregnancy. But I knew, even when I wasn’t walking with Jesus, that I could never, ever have an abortion.  I walked out of that clinic still pregnant and stubborn as ever.  The following months were HARD.  Telling my parents was a painful, disappointing experience for all of us.  But thanks to their unconditional love and the church we attended, I had an amazing support group.  In November 2002, I gave birth to a healthy, beautiful little girl.  I named her Grace because even though I didn’t deserve it God had shown me grace by giving me the one thing that would keep me alive and force me to stop living so selfishly and destructively.  Several years later in the perfect, amazing way only God can work, He put an incredible man in my life.  I am so amazingly blessed and thankful for him!  We have been married for almost 9 years and have added two more children to our family!20160124_150428

As I think back, there were countless people who, through their care for me, expressed more than pro-life words, they put it into action.

I see so many signs, posts on social media and hear so many people say, “I am praying for an end to abortion.”  This is good!  Prayer in and of itself is a GOOD thing.  We know these prayers touch our Father’s heart because He alone ordained life.  Psalm 139:15-16 says:

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

May I be bold and assume that when you pray you are praying in faith?  You have faith in the One who promises to hear your prayers.  I want to encourage you who have been so faithful praying for the end to abortion to walk out your faith in your daily lives in practical and tangible ways if you are not already.

The Left often says that pro-lifers only care about saving the baby.  The Left claims that once that baby is born we walk away and don’t care about what happens to that child for the rest of their life.  So today I encourage you to pray for the single mothers out there, to pray for those women who are considering having an abortion.  And then, I encourage you to ACT.

How can you be the hands and feet of Jesus?  What practical way could you serve a single mom and her children living in your community?  Could you do a meal once a week for her family?  Could you buy her diapers for a week, a month or a year?  Imagine the impact that could have on the life of a struggling single mother.  Friends, I am so passionate about this because I was once that single mother!  My church (yes CHURCH) held a diaper shower for me, and I didn’t have to buy diapers or wipes for over six months!  This simple act of kindness from my local faith community will stick with me forever.  Approach these women who have chosen life with humility and grace.

In the Greek, the word James uses for “works” means those which definitively involve faith as their initiator.  In Greek the word “dead” metaphorically means in opposition to the life of the Gospel – it means inactive or inoperative.

I don’t want to be standing before Christ, giving account for my life knowing that my actions and my life were in opposition to the life of the Gospel.

We must also pray for women who have chosen the path of abortion.  We must never judge them for their decision because we can never fully understand the circumstances surrounding their decision.  Pray for healing for these women and pray for the Holy Spirit to draw them near that they may receive the healing that only Jesus can provide though salvation and sanctification.

Will you join me in being more like James?

‘… I will show you my faith by my deeds.’”

In Christ,

Kari Zeier

Montana U.S. Sen. Jon Tester Needs to Hear Our United Pro-Life Voice TODAY!

By | Montana | No Comments

Dear Warriors for Life,

Today CWA of Montana is hosting a rally in front of Sen. Jon Tester’s (D-Montana) office in Billings requesting he vote to defund Planned Parenthood. In light of the undercover videos being released by the Center for Medical Progress, it is appalling that Sen. Tester would still support an organization which illegally sells aborted baby body parts for $30-$100.

As recently as August 3, Sen. Tester said cutting off funds from Planned Parenthood would deny essential health services to hundreds of thousands of American women. Untrue, it would not cut off health services for women! View CWA CEO and President Penny Nance’s recent response to these types of arguments on the O’Reilly Factor.

We are also asking him to return $19,000 that Planned Parenthood has given him since 2006.  Read what has to say about it in, Planned Parenthood workers, PACs donated $25M to Dems since 2000.

Pray: If you are unable to attend please pray for us! Pray that our voices would be heard and that we would have a large turnout for the rally.

Take Action TODAY:

  1. If you are local, please join CWA at Sen. Tester’s office at 11:00 a.m. His office is located at 2900 4th Avenue North in the Judge Jameson Federal Building across from the Lincoln Center. It is imperative that Sen. Tester hear from as many Montanans as possible who are fed up with our hard earned tax dollars funding the abortion giant.
  2. You can e-mail this letter to Sen. Tester and sign this petition on CWA’s website calling for the federal defunding of Planned Parenthood.
  3. Pass this e-alert on to like-minded friends and family.
  4. Please also like and follow CWA of Montana’s Facebook page where you can get the latest information on our efforts throughout the state.

Women have been betrayed long enough, and it is time for men and women to unite and stop this atrocity.

Proverbs 30:5 says, “Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.” May the God of the universe be our shield and walk before us on this path to end abortion.

Local rally part of a larger movement all having a rally on August 18 to demand Sen. Tester vote to defund Planned Parenthood

WHAT: Local rally – which is part of the national #WomenBetrayed rallies – to take place calling for the defunding of the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, who was recently caught on video discussing the sale of body parts of aborted babies. This is only the latest infraction in a long list of horrific behaviors, including covering up statutory rape, overbilling taxpayers, aiding and abetting sex traffickers, scheduling sex-selective abortions and accepting money to abort African American children. Planned Parenthood receives over $500 million in government funds a year. Rally participants will call on Sen. Tester to immediately investigate Planned Parenthood and defund them of all taxpayer dollars as well as return any and all donations he has received from Planned Parenthood.

Let Montana U.S. Sen. Jon Tester Know on Tuesday, Aug. 18 that You Want Him to Defund Planned Parenthood – Rally in Front of His Office!

By | Montana | No Comments

Dear Friend,

Please join Concerned Women for America of Montana, Students for Life of America and Pro-Life Future to request that Sen. Jon Tester vote to defund Planned Parenthood. The recent videos showing Planned Parenthood’s selling of baby body parts for the price of $30-$100 is sickening and illegal. We will meet for a brief rally and then we will hand deliver letters to Sen. Tester petitioning him to vote to defund the abortion giant as well as return any campaign donations he has received from Planned Parenthood. Women have been betrayed for far too long, and it is time for men and women alike to speak out in defense of women and the preborn.

Concerned Women for America of Montana is hosting a #WomenBetrayed rally THIS Tuesday, August 18, in front of Sen. Tester’s office at 2900 4th Avenue North in Billings at 11:00 a.m.

We need YOU at the rally to tell Sen. Tester enough is enough.

Click here for a wonderful sample letter that only requires your signature. If you would like to compose your own letter please feel to do so. Please bring the letter with you so you can deliver it to Sen. Tester’s office after the rally. Sen. Tester needs to know that Montanans are pro-life, and he MUST listen to his constituents.

Since Sen. Tester’s office is located in a Federal building, there cannot be any photography whatsoever. We must be respectful of those going in and out of the building and treat everyone, even those in opposition to us, with respect. You may stand on the sidewalks but cannot be in the streets disrupting traffic. Please leave room on the sidewalks for people to walk through the crowd.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at [email protected].  Please share this email with your friends!  You may also find event info on Facebook here:

I hope to see you there as it is going to take all of us standing together for truth to defund Planned Parenthood. If you are unable to make the rally, please remember us in your prayers. And just as Jesus prayed to the Father for His disciples may we also pray for Sen. Tester and all those involved in the abortion industry, “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.” John 17:17-19

CWA of Montana SPEAKS OUT Against the Selling of Baby Body Parts

By | Montana | No Comments

It is a federal felony to traffic human body parts! This week a shocking video from an undercover investigation shows Dr. Deborah Nucatola describing how selling the body parts of aborted children is part of the Planned Parenthood business plan! View disturbing video here.

Penny Nance, Concerned Women for America CEO and President, responded:

“Thirty to one hundred dollars; that’s the price Planned Parenthood appears to be profiting per dead baby. The recent video of Planned Parenthood’s senior director of Medical Services is just the latest in a laundry list of scandals, including aiding and abetting sex traffickers, giving sexual bondage instructions to children, cheating the government, sex-selection abortions, blatant racism, and the failure to report the molestation and rape of minors.

“There appears to be no depths to which this organization won’t stoop for money. When will the federal government wake up and follow the lead of the ten courageous governors who have cut funding to Planned Parenthood?

It’s time for Congress to say ‘Enough!’ If Planned Parenthood provides any worthy services, then they should have no problem raising funds like the thousands of other charities around this nation. Wake up America!”

Silence is not an option! Take action and pray on behalf of unborn babies!

Take Action: Contact Sen. Steve Daines (R-Montana) (202) 224-2651/e-mail), Sen. Jon Tester (D-Montana) (202) 224-2644/e-mail) and Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-At-Large Congressional District) (202) 225-3211/e-mail). Ask for a congressional investigation and an immediate defunding of Planned Parenthood.

Pray: 2 Timothy says, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” We are reminded that it isn’t easy. 2 Corinthians 4:6-9 “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.” We should not fear man. Man cannot take our soul. We need to take heart during these times. Have courage. Put on the full armor of God and speak boldly as we speak. And having done all stand
Dear Heavenly Father, the God of all creation, forgive us our trespasses. We will no longer be silent. Boldly we speak the truth in love, knowing that Jesus is the victory. Break the hearts of our leaders for what breaks Yours. Destroy the walls of deception and shine the light on the evilness of abortion. As we serve You our Risen Savior, we call on the surpassing power that is from You, not us.

Silence is not an option.

Immediate Action needed to STOP Common Core in Montana

By | Montana | No Comments

HB 377, which would repeal and replace Common Core in Montana, is stalled in the Senate Education Committee.

HB 377 is VITAL in taking back the control of education in Montana and placing it in the hands of parents, teachers and local school boards where it belongs. Sen. Taylor Brown (R-District 22), who is the chairman of the House Education Committee, says he needs to hear stories and experiences about Montana’s public schools. We ALL have a child, or know someone who does, that has been impacted negatively by Common Core. Sen. Brown is also under the impression that the Legislature has a very limited role in enforcing Montana public education.

Montana Code Annotated 20-1-102 states, “It is the goal of the legislature that Montana’s public elementary and secondary school system, in cooperation with parents or guardians, create a learning environment for each student …” You can read the code in its entirety HERE.

Article X of the Monana Constitution states “It is the goal of the people to establish a system of education which will develop the full educational potential of each person. Equality of educational opportunity is guaranteed to each person of the state.” You can read more about education and Montana’s Constitution HERE.

Sen. Brown has argued that a past ruling of the Montana Supreme Court supports his belief that the role of the legislature is to fund public education. According to the Montana Constitution and Montana Code, this is a conflicting message. As noted above the goal of the people, which includes you, is to establish the educational system in Montana. More importantly is the fact that the legislature is to work in cooperation with parents or guardians to create a learning environment that benefits ALL students. If the legislature does not listen to us, the PARENTS, then they are violating the oath they have vowed to uphold:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, protect and defend the constitution of the United States, and the constitution of the state of Montana, and that I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity (so help me God).”

The Montana Board of Public Education (BPE), the Office of Public Instruction (OPI) and local school boards have created a divisive educational environment that excluded parents with the adoption and implementation of the copyrighted Common Core State Standards Initiative. We cannot stand by and allow our elected legislators to do the same.

The fiscal note for HB 377 states “Typically, when the OPI undertakes a process for recommending revisions to accreditation standards to the BPE, the agency convenes a work group to develop the recommendations … These working meetings have not been closed to the public, but OPI has not consistently announced the meetings online nor put out press releases about the work group meetings.” You can find the rest of the fiscal note HERE.

Friends it is time to speak up TODAY. This bill NEEDS to be heard on the Senate floor. The only way this will happen is if YOU take immediate action.

First, pray that members of the Senate Education Committee would take a stand for parents and children in Montana. Pray that Sen. Taylor Brown, as the chairman of the committee, would take a strong stand for students, parents and teachers in Montana.

Take Action!

1. E-mail Sen. Taylor Brown at [email protected]. Tell him YOUR personal story about how Common Core has negatively impacted your child, grandchild, niece or nephew. Your story matters. Demand that Sen. Brown move forward with a vote of HB 377. Students, parents and teachers deserve a Montana solution with better educational standards than the federally created and funded Common Core.
2. Copy Sen. Llew Jones at [email protected] via e-mail with your personal story. Sen. Jones has worked with public schools in the past through his former computer technology company Jathco. We need to ask Sen. Jones to stand on our behalf as well.
3. Call 406-444-4800. Tell the operator you need to leave a message for each member of the SENATE Education Committee. The message is for each senator to vote YES on HB 377.
4. Forward this e-mail on to everyone you know. Encourage them to take the action steps mentioned above.

You can read HB 377 here.

It would be a travesty for this bill to die in the Senate Education Committee. You must act immediately. The longer this bill sits in committee the less likely it will pass out of committee and be ignored by our legislators. If we all take five minutes out of our day to pressure these senators, we can work to ensure this bill makes it to the senate floor. HB 377 deserves a vote by the senators who have been elected by the people of Montana. ACT TODAY!

Montana PTA and Chamber of Commerce Supports Common Core

By | Montana | No Comments

On February 18, four bills, aimed at repealing and replacing Common Core in Montana, were heard by the House Education Committee. All of the individuals who spoke in support of Common Core and in opposition to HB 377 were part of the educational establishment except for two. Interestingly, two specific groups which spoke against the bills on behalf of their members were the Montana PTA represented by Dee Hensley-Maclean and the Billings Chamber of Commerce represented by John Brewer.

CWA of Montana presenting testimony on your behalf at that committee hearing.

Good news, it passed out of committee, and then on February 26, HB 377 passed out of the House! It is now time to tell the members of the Senate Education Committee to support HB 377 and HB 501. View action items and prayer focus below. Click here to read HB 377 and click here to read HB 501 as well as view their status.

Billings Chamber of Commerce’s Stance on Common Core:

Their website states:

“The Common Core State Standards are K–12 academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy. They were developed by states, and states voluntarily choose to adopt them.

Standards are a critical first step in improving America’s education system. They provide the necessary foundation for local decisions around curriculum, assessments and instruction. The Billings Chamber supports the Common Core initiative.”

Clearly the chamber is taking a stance on an issue it has not thoroughly researched. The standards are national standards by the Montana Board of Public Education’s admission (page 7).

You can read more about the chamber’s stance on education by clicking here and then clicking on either local, state or federal issues.

Nation PTA’s Stance on Common Core:

Their website states:
“Supports nationally agreed upon voluntary standards if they are derived by consensus at the state and local levels. Parents must be involved in this process.”

Parents were not involved in the process of adopting Common Core on any level. It is insulting to all the parent members of the PTA for their Advocacy Chair to speak for their members in support of educational standards in which the parents had no say! You can read more about the PTA’s stance on educational issues by clicking here.

Montana PTA’s Stance on Common Core:

The Montana PTA also sent out an e-mail asking their membership to call and oppose the four bills aimed at repealing Common Core in Montana.

Time is of the essence! Act and Pray TODAY!

Take Action:

  1. Please contact the members of the Senate Education and Cultural Resources Committee at 406-444-4800 and tell them to support HB 377 and HB 501. If you are told you can only leave messages for five members of the committee, please leave a message for the following: Taylor Brown (R-SD 28), Llew Jones (R-SD 9), Mary Sheehy Moe (D-SD 12), Sharon Stewart-Peregoy (D-SD 21) and Bob Keenan (R-SD 5).
  2. If you are a member of the Billings Chamber of Commerce, please e-mail John Brewer at [email protected] as well as the Chamber board president Ron Yates at [email protected]. Tell them you do NOT support Common Core or the Billings’ Chamber speaking for you.
  3. If you are a member of the Montana PTA, please e-mail [email protected] and tell them you are against Common Core and for local control of education. Let them know that as a member you do not appreciate the Montana PTA speaking for you.
  4. If you are a member of either the Billings Chamber of Commerce or the Montana PTA, please contact the board leadership and tell them you do not support Common Core. Send a letter to the editor of your local paper stating your concerns with Common Core and the stance these organizations have taken.
  5. If you know someone who is a member of either of these organizations, please encourage them to act.
  6. Pass this e-mail onto like-minded friends, family, pastors, etc. and ask then to pray and take action on this important issue.

Pray for the legislators who have not yet seen the cracks within Common Core. Pray they will see truth and will speak up in support of HB 377 and HB 501. Pray that those legislators, regardless of political party affiliation, who do not support Common Core, would speak truth and would speak boldly. Pray for John Brewer and Dee Hensley-Maclean, as well as their organizations and board of directors, that they would realize the dangers of Common Core and oppose it.

View Testimonies: You can view a video of all the testimonies here. Go to 00:59:47 to view CWA of Montana State Co-Director Kari Zeier’s testimony. John Brewer testifies at approximately 1:17:00 and then is questioned by Rep. Jeff Essmann (R-District 54) at 2:38:00. Dee Hensley-Maclean testifies at 1:43:00.

The cracks within Common Core are beginning to show. You are speaking up and making a difference! The time to speak loudly is now! Keep up the good work!

State Co-Director Kari Zeier Testifies Before the Education Committee in Opposition to Common Core By Supporting HB 377 (text)

Testimony CC 2 18 2015

Education Committee
Support HB 377
February 18, 2015

Madam Chairwoman, members of the committee:

My name is Kari Zeier, and I am the State Co-Director for Concerned Women for America of Montana.
The reason we have Common Core in Montana is because the Montana Board of Public Education (BPE) adopted the standards on November 4, 2011. As you consider your vote on HB 377, please consider the following:

The BPE’s approved minutes from the November 3-4, 2011 meeting, regarding Mr. Michael Hall from OPI state, “Mr. Hall briefly discussed the history in moving to the Common Core standards and that the decision was made for Montana to move from the Montana standards to the national Common Core Standards.” By their own admission these are NATIONAL standards, not Montana’s standards.

MCA 5-5-224. Education and local government interim committee. The education and local government interim committee has administrative rule review, draft legislation review, program evaluation, and monitoring functions for the following executive branch agencies and the entities attached to agencies for administrative purposes:

  1. state board of education;
  2. board of public education;
  3. board of regents of higher education; and
  4. office of public instruction.

On November 14, 2014 at the BPE’s meeting, Deputy Superintendent of Schools Dennis Parman was discussing the public comments from the hearing regarding the adoption of the preschool standards with the Montana Board of Public Education. Mr. Parman said in regards to the resolution passed by the Education and Local Government Interim Committee, “… They have no standing, that interim committee has no standing in terms of their ability to tell you what to do or how to do it. That having been said, um, they sat down and they talked about it and they discussed it and there were concerns expressed.”

Legislative committees serve a vital purpose, are comprised of legislators who have been elected by the people of Montana and are empowered by state laws.

The fallacies within Common Core go beyond party lines. On January 24, 2015, the Washington State Democratic Central Committee passed a resolution opposing Common Core. It is time to stop playing politics and work together to create new educational standards for Montanans, by Montanans. Our teachers and children deserve better than what has been given to them. This mandate stifles the individual creativity of teachers by forcing them to teach to a national standard versus each individual Montana students’ needs.

Article X, Section 1 of the Montana Constitution states that it is the goal of the people to establish a system of education which will develop the full educational potential of each person. National standards put forth by a Board which disregards the legislative roles and processes hardly develops the full educational potential of each of Montana’s children. Furthermore, Common Core limits teachers and usurps local control through yet another federal overreach. We can do better and you have the authority to begin this process. Vote YES on HB 377.

Repeal Common Core in Montana

By | Montana | No Comments

House Bill 377 will be heard in the House Education Committee tomorrow, Wednesday, February 18, at 3:00 p.m.

HB 377 would repeal the Common Core Standards in Montana. This bill deals with the Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium (SBAC) testing, public officials being members of private organizations who could exert control over public schools through standards and curriculum, and lays out a process for creating new standards in Mathematics and English Language Arts in Montana. And that’s just the beginning. Click here to review the bill for yourself.

Let’s stand together and rid our state of Common Core and create an educational system that is good for Montana’s teachers and children!

Pray for each members of the House Education Committee by name. Pray they would see the truth of the federal overreach that is called Common Core. Pray they would have the strength to stand for righteousness not only in voting for this legislation but speak out in favor of it. May they see that Common Core is bad for Montana teachers and children regardless of party affiliation. You can find the members of the House Education Committee here.

Take Action!

  1. Call 406-444-4800. Tell the operator you need to leave a message for all of the HOUSE Education Committee Members. The message is for each member to vote YES on HB 377. That is it! The phone calls are powerful as the members of the committee receive a yellow slip for each message that is left. The more the better! This causes them to pay attention to what we, the people, are saying! Call TODAY!
  2. If you are able, consider attending the committee meeting tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at the Capitol in Helena in room 137. You can either prepare a brief, one to two minute statement about why you are against Common Core or you may just state your name and ask the committee to vote YES on HB 377.
  3. Share this information with your family and friends. Ask them to take two minutes out of their day and call Helena and ask the House Education Committee to vote YES on HB 377.

More about HB 377:

  • Would create an Accredidation Standards Review Council.
  • Deals with funding if a school chooses not to adopt the Common Core Standards.
  • Would repeal the Common Core Standards in Montana.
  • Gives the control back to parents and teachers.
  • Would remove the SBAC testing as a requirement for the state.
  • Prevents public officals from being members of associations that could have control over public schools in Montana such as the National Governor’s Association and the Chief Council of State School Officers, both of which were integral in creating the National Common Core Standards.
  • Calls for the development of an Accredidation Standards Review Council. This council would effectively disperse the power and authority over public schools thus creating a more equal distribution of power.
  • Would prohibit the witholding of BASE aid if a district decided not to adopt the content standards.

Thank you in advance for praying and taking action on this important issue.
