April 12 Prayer/Action Alert – Do Not Lose Heart!

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear CWA of Washington Friend,

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 encourages us, “Therefore we do not lose heart … For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

We are certainly seeing spiritual, moral, and physical anarchy rising in our nation, as citizens with Biblical values are increasingly being mocked, fined, bullied, and even jailed simply for standing up for their sincerely held religious and moral values.  Plus, the 2018 legislative session was a huge disappointment for pro-life, pro-family citizens and a disaster for precious preborn babies and women’s dignity.  CWA of Washington opposed and fought to defeat contracted human surrogacy, mandated abortion insurance for all employers, and state interference in the doctor-patient relationship through a ban on counseling for gender dysphoria and related conditions.  All three of those bills (SB 6037, SB 6219, SB 5722) passed and were signed by Governor Inslee– much to our dismay–despite the lobbying of CWA of Washington members and members of other pro-family groups around the state.  This situation reinforces the importance of exercising our right to vote for legislators who will fight for Judeo Christian values in the public policy arena.

Yet, let us “not lose heart.” When we contact our legislators and they ignore us, we need to pray, then contact them again—if necessary, being a thorn in their sides. We simply cannot be quiet!

As for “the things which are not seen”, our members prayed for 101 legislators during the 2018 session through our Encourage-A-Legislator campaign.  This is outstanding!  A special thanks to those who participated.  While we didn’t see with our eyes the results we prayed for, our God heard our prayers, and we trust that He touched the heart of each one of those 101 legislators, drawing them one step closer to Himself.

Events

40 Days for Life reports that babies were saved and abortion facilities were closed during the just-ended 40 Days for Life campaign!  Thank you to all who went out to take a stand and to pray for the unborn and those blinded to the evil of abortion.  James 2:20 tells us that, “faith without action is dead”.  Thank you for taking action!  Go to the 40 Days for Life website to find out more and watch for information announcing their next campaign.

The “Day of Silence” Walk Out: The pro-homosexual Day of Silence is scheduled for Friday, April 27, during which students are encouraged not to speak at all in the classroom.  While some teachers enable this by preparing special lesson plans, other teachers refuse to participate and need your support.  In opposition, CWA of Washington has endorsed The “Day of Silence” Walk Out.  Click here to find out more about The “Day of Silence” Walk Out. If more parents speak up and discuss this issue with their school leadership, a walk out may not be necessary next year and Day of Silence would become ineffective.   Please visit the Day of Silence Walkout website on how to deal with the Day of Silence.  It is very important to realize that this movement seeks to undermine the Biblical truth, “ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them,” (Genesis 1:27).  We must not be silent!

National Day of Prayer (NDP): This is an annual event attended by thousands of citizens around the nation.  Please be a part of this year’s NDP on Thursday, May 3, by either attending a local event or planning one of your own.  This year’s theme is “Unity: based on Ephesians 4:3, “Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Visit the NDP website for more information.

Prayer

Please be in prayer for our First Amendment rights to freedom of religion and speech. Right now, there is a very important case before the U.S. Supreme Court that will have far-reaching consequences.  In Washington and California, laws have been passed that force pro-life clinics to post information on abortion clinics in their clinics and on all their advertising.  According to the First Amendment, the government has no right to censor speech, so why does it have the right to force citizens to say something opposed to their sincerely held religious or moral beliefs?  This principle is the same as in the cases about florists and bakers being forced to participate in activities counter to their sincerely-held religious or moral beliefs.  For more on this issue, please read CWA’s General Counsel Mario Diaz’s article,  CWA Stands for Free Speech at the U.S. Supreme Court which includes a video of CWA in front of the Supreme Court on the day the case was heard.

Partnership

Finally, partner with CWA with a tax-deductible donation of $25 or more.  This has TWO benefits: you become a part of CWA of Washington and CWA national.  All donations sent to CWA of Washington at P.O. Box 143, Woodinville, WA 98072 remain in Washington for state projects, activities, office supplies, transportation and more.  Please make checks out to “CWA” and write “Washington” on the memo line.  Or you can give online to CWA of Washington. Your donations of any amount are greatly appreciated!

Feel free to share this alert with other concerned citizens.  We appreciate your support and your prayers.  And remember: Do not lose heart!

Sincerely,

Maureen Richardson

Watch: Students Walk Out After Female Speaker Declares Men and Women Are Different — ‘Nazis Are Not Welcome’

By | Washington | No Comments

When is truth not truth?  Is it when people decide to redefine it?  Apparently, that is what these university students believe!  Concerned Women for America of Washington will continue to stand for absolute truth as found in God’s Holy Bible:  “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” – Gen. 1:27  Please pray with us for eyes and ears to be opened to God’s truth about this and other issues.

March 7 Prayer/Action Alert: Use Great Boldness of Speech

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear CWA of Washington Member,

“… since we have such hope we use great boldness of speech.” – 2 Corinthians 3:12

Please take this verse seriously as a CWA member and speak out to our elected representatives! As you know, I have focused on some pretty horrible bills this session. Please take action immediately concerning SB 5722, SB 6219 and HB 1523.

Status:

  • SB 5722, which prevents conversion therapy on minors, has been passed in both the house and senate. It is now on the Governor’s desk awaiting his signature or veto. Click here to read and track the bill.
  • SB 6219 which mandates that everyone buy abortion insurance has been passed in both the house and senate. It is now on the Governor’s desk awaiting his signature or veto. Click here to read and track this bill. (HB 1523 is a similar bill and also headed for a signature)
  • Unfortunately SB 6037, which legalizes the purchase and sale of babies, was signed by the governor yesterday, Tuesday, March 6.

Take Action: Please call Gov. Inslee’s office at (360) 902-4111 and request that he veto SB 5722, SB 6219 and HB 1523. Let him know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington. We must use great boldness of speech to win these important battles for the family and the sanctity of human life.

 More information on these bills:

  • SB 6219 Late last week, the Washington State House of Representatives approved SB 6219 which would mandate abortion coverage in insurance plans in our state. CWA strongly opposes this bill because it would promote abortions while violating constitutionally-protected conscience rights. The legislation is awaiting the Governor’s signature. SB 6219 not only promotes the destruction of human life but also violates the fundamental right to conscience guaranteed by both our state and national constitutions. The bill would forcibly compel many of this state’s citizens to act against their consciences.  If the governor signs this bill, there will likely be a legal challenge to it because of the lack of any conscience protection provisions.
  • SB 5722 Restricting the practice of conversion therapy has also passed both houses, but has not yet been delivered to the governor’s office for his signature. Nevertheless, if you want to preserve the traditional doctor-patient confidence and our ability to seek the treatment we need, please again ask for the governor to veto this awful bill.  It is a terribly one-sided bill, preventing licensed counselors from helping minors who want to change their sexual orientation or gender identity supposedly in an effort to prevent harm to involved individuals, but not preventing our schools from promoting those very same lifestyles.
  • SB 6037 Last Wednesday, February 28, around 1:00 a.m. the majority voted to legalize the purchase and sale of human babies with SB 6037, “The Uniform Parentage Act.” In this state, a woman has been able to volunteer to be a surrogate mother for couples who want a baby, but with the passage of SB 6037, this personal choice has been turned into a financial transaction. This bill sets virtually no limits on the sale or purchase of human babies, putting a woman’s womb up for rent and the child for sale.  All the amendments offered that would have put needed protections in the bill were rejected.  On Tuesday, March 6, Governor Inslee signed this horrific bill that shows total disrespect for a woman’s unique ability to produce children and for the baby thereby produced, putting a monetary and commercial emphasis on God’s beautiful plan for the family.

Please speak out now! Participate in our democratic Republic! The governor could sign these bills at any time.  Speak boldly and encourage others to do so as well. Pray, get educated, then take action—because we have such hope in our Savior Christ Jesus.

Sincerely,

Maureen Richardson

February 21 Prayer/Action Alert: Love Your Enemies

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear Concerned Women for America of Washington Member,

But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.” – Luke 6:27, 28

In this intense culture war we now find ourselves in, we must not lose sight of Christ’s call to love others.  Keep this in mind not only when you are praying for the legislators that you disagree with, but also as you interact with them.  As you respectfully disagree with them, be sure to not leave out simple pleasantries such as “Good morning!” and “Thank you for your consideration of this matter.” Consider sending an email periodically letting them know that you are praying for them.  Don’t mention any public policy issues; simply let them know that you are praying for God’s blessing on them.  Consider including Scripture like Numbers 6:24-26 or Jeremiah 29:11. Our state legislative session ends on March 9, so act now before the session concludes.

OUTSTANDING!

I continue to get feedback from our Prayer/Action Alerts, letting me know that you are praying and acting on the issues on which we are taking a stand.  Outstanding!  Please know that you, your prayers, and your actions are immensely appreciated. Keep it up!

LEGISLATION

Not too much has changed since our last Prayer/Action Alert on February 9.  The only change is that in addition to contacting your representatives, we are asking that you contact the committees to which SB 6037, SB 5722, and SB 6219 are currently assigned.  Therefore, if you have contacted your representatives already on the issues below, then just focus on the first bullet point under SB 6037, SB 5722, and SB 6219.  And, of course, continue to lift up all of these issues in prayer and be sure to forward this alert to friends and family. Urge them to take a stand!

Note: When taking action on bills, you simply need to call the Legislative Information Center Hotline at 1-800-562-6000 (Hours:  Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.; Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) with your comments, give them your address, and they will be sure your message goes to the correct legislators.  If you prefer to email your legislators, click here to find out who they are and how to contact them.

BILLS TO OPPOSE:

1. SB 6037: Uniform Parentage Act (a.k.a contract surrogacy)

This Senate bill would promote paid contract human surrogacy. To put it simply, human beings would be bought and sold! Wouldn’t it be better for the state to promote adoption of the many children in foster care and state care rather than promote a baby-making business?  How can we take legislators seriously when they promote abortion at any point of a pregnancy, claiming the pre-born child is not a human being with the right to life, then turn around and claim its okay to rent a woman’s body to produce a child and set a price on that life?  Where is the logic in that perspective?

Status: SB 6037 passed the Senate and is now in the House Judiciary Committee. It has a hearing scheduled both today and tomorrow.  Click here to read and track it.

Action:

  • Please contact the members of the House Judiciary Committee Ask them to oppose SB 6037 and express your opinion. Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.
  • If you haven’t already, as encouraged in the February 2 and 9 Prayer/Action Alerts, please call the hotline at 1-800-562-6000 and ask your representatives to oppose SB 6037 and express your opinion. Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.

Prayer: Pray the committee members and your representatives have more respect for women and motherhood than our senators have shown.

2. SB 5722: Restricting the Practice of Conversion Therapy on Patients under Age Eighteen

This bill makes it “unprofessional” conduct for a licensed health care provider to perform conversion therapy on a patient under the age of 18.  This bill would shut down any options other than affirming therapy and take us down the slippery slope of restricting parental rights and religious liberty.  Why is it okay for a minor to choose to get an abortion, yet not choose to have conversion therapy?  If choice is discriminatory, it is not choice.

Status Update: This bill passed the Senate and passed in the House Health Care & Wellness Committee on February 16. It is now in the House Rules Committee.  A hearing has not yet been scheduled. Click here to read and track the bill.

Action:

  • Please contact the members of the House Rules Committee and ask them to oppose SB 5722 and express your opinion. Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.
  • If you haven’t already, as encouraged in the February 2 and 9 Prayer/Action Alerts, please call the hotline at 1-800-562-6000 to ask your representatives to oppose SB 5722 and express your opinion. Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.

Prayer: Ask the Lord to enlighten the committee members and your representatives to the dangerous effects of this legislation on children, parental rights, and religious liberty.

3. SB 6219: Abortion Insurance Mandate

SB 6219 requires every insurance policy bought and sold in the state of Washington to pay for abortions and drugs that cause abortions (abortifacients).  It would enhance existing contraception coverage requirements and promote abortions while violating constitutionally-protected conscience rights of individuals, churches, businesses, and others.  It would forcibly compel many of our state’s citizens to act against their consciences.

Status: This bill passed the Senate and passed in the House Health Care & Wellness Committee on February 16. It is now in the House Rules Committee.  A hearing has not yet been scheduled. Click here to read and track this bill.

Action:

  1. Please contact the members of the House Rules Committee and ask them to oppose SB 6219 and express your opinion. Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.
  2. If you didn’t already contact your representatives in response to the February 2 and 9 Prayer/Action Alerts, please do so now. Call the hotline at 1-800-562-6000 to ask your representatives to oppose SB 6219 and express your opinion. Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.

Prayer: Please pray that SB 6219 would be thwarted.

BILLS TO SUPPORT: We have noted the following three bills in our last two Prayer/Action Alerts.  Therefore, only take action if you have not yet done so.  Please diligently keep these bills in your prayers.  They have been buried in committee for quite a while.

1. Sanctity of Life/Family: If passed, HB 1003 and SB 5320 would require parental notification for abortions except in medical emergencies. Parental rights with regard to their minor children must be respected and upheld in order for God’s family structure to survive and flourish. When our children must have our permission to take any medications at school, isn’t it logical to respect the same level of parental responsibility and accountability for all medical decisions?

Status: HB 1003 was first introduced in the House in January of 2015 and has been stalled in the House Health Care & Wellness Committee since January 2017.  Click here to read and track HB 1003.  SB 5320 was first introduced in the Senate in January of 2015 and has been stalled in the House Rules Committee since January 2017.  Click here to read and track SB 5320.

Action:  Please call the hotline at 1-800-562-6000 to ask your representatives to support HB 1003 and for your senators to support SB 5320.  Ask them to use their influence to move these bills forward. Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.

Prayer: Please pray that our legislators will re-consider their position on the sanctity of life, or at the least, parental rights.

2. Religious Liberty: HB 1178: Protecting the rights of religious freedom and conscience of individuals in their beliefs and practices from government discrimination. This bill restates the First Amendment, thus ensuring the protection of the rights of religious exercise and conscience from government discrimination, particularly in regards to the definition of marriage.

Status: HB 1178 was introduced in January of 2015 and has been stalled in the House Rules Committee since April 2015.   Click here to read and track this bill.

Action: Please call the hotline at 1-800-562-6000 to ask your representatives to support HB 1178 and ask them to use their influence to move this bill to a vote.  Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.

Prayer: Pray our legislators realize our vulnerability without this legislation.

3. Support for Israel: HJM 4009: Condemning the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement against Israel. Support for Israel is one of CWA’s core issues. This bill would stop the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East and “the greatest friend and ally of the United States in the Middle East (p. 1, line 21-22 of the bill).”

Status: HJM 4009 was introduced February 2015 and has been stalled in the House Judiciary Committee since January 2017. Click here to read and track HJM 4009.

Action: Please call the hotline at 1-800-562-6000 to ask your representatives to support HJM 4009 and ask them to use their influence to move this bill to a vote.  Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.

Prayer: Pray the plans of the BDS movement would be thwarted by the passing of this bill.

Let us pray together that the Lord will soften the hearts of your senators and representatives.  Pray for them by name.  May the Holy Spirit draw them closer to the One who loved them enough to die for them.

God bless you for your faithfulness in prayer and action.  Remember to love all those who oppose you – even friends and family.

Praying with you,

February 9 Prayer/Action Alert: Prayers of the Righteous Avail Much

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear Concerned Women for America of Washington Member,

I have had several encouraging responses to last week’s alert, and we’ve added more prayer warriors to our Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL) campaign.  Thank you for your participation in our goal of covering every state legislator in prayer.  James 5:16 says, “The effective, fervent prayers of a righteous man avails much.” It’s not too late – sign up for our EAL campaign today!  Click here to sign up to encourage and pray for one or more legislators this legislative session.

CWA LEADERSHIP

Please consider becoming a Prayer/Action Chapter Leader or Home Team Captain.  Just find one or more concerned citizens whose hearts are breaking about the increasing moral decay in our culture, then gather once a month to pray together as a chapter. Or, you can form a home team through social media to disseminate prayer and action items. We are called to be watchmen on the wall (Ezekiel 22:30) to protect the culture from danger.  Now is the time to take this responsibility seriously!  Pray about this opportunity, then, if you feel led, contact me for more information.  I would love to hear from you!

LEGISLATION

Prayer, education, and action have always been Concerned Women for America’s (CWA) three guiding principles for protecting Biblical values.  Remember what James told us, “faith without action is dead” (James 2:20) and that our faith proves itself by our good works.

Note: When taking action on the bills below, you simply need to call the Legislative Information Center Hotline at 1-800-562-6000 (Hours:  M-F, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Sat 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.) with your comments, give them your address, and they will be sure your message goes to the correct legislators.  If you prefer to email your legislators, click here to find out who they are and how to contact them.

BILLS TO OPPOSE:  Last week’s alert gave you information on these three bills that need to be defeated in the legislature.  Thank you for contacting your legislators with your insights on these bills.  The first two bills have passed out of the Senate and are now in the House.  Therefore, please call your representatives concerning these bills.  The third bill is still in the Senate; therefore, you only need to call your senators on that one if you haven’t yet.

 1. SB 6037, Uniform Parentage Act (a.k.a contract surrogacy)

This Senate bill would promote paid contract human surrogacy. Simply put, human beings would be bought and sold! Wouldn’t it be better for the state to promote adoption of the multitude of children in foster and state care rather than promote a baby-making business?  How can we take legislators seriously when they promote abortion at any point of a pregnancy, claiming the pre-born child is not a human being with the right to life, then turn around and claim it’s okay to rent a woman’s body to produce a child and set a price on that life?  Where is the logic in that perspective?

Status: On February 7, SB 6037 passed the Senate.  It is now headed to the House. It has not yet been assigned to a House committee.  Click here to read and track it.

Action:  Please call the hotline at 1-800-562-6000 and ask your representatives to oppose SB 6037 and express your opinion.  Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.

Prayer: Pray that our representatives have more respect for women and motherhood than our senators have shown.

Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.Prayer: Ask the Lord to enlighten the representatives to the dangerous effects of this legislation on the child, parental rights, and religious liberty.

3. SB 6219, Abortion Insurance Mandate

Status: SB 6219 passed in the Senate and is now scheduled to be heard in the House Health Care & Wellness Committee on February 16.  Click here to read and track this bill.

Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.

Prayer: Please pray that SB 6219 would be thwarted.

BILLS TO SUPPORT: In addition to the first three bills to oppose, I have added three more bills which need our hearty support.  These three deserve to be heard but have been buried in committees.

1. Sanctity of Life/Family: HB 1003 and SB 5320, Requiring parental notification for abortion except in a medical emergency. Parental rights with regard to their minor children must be respected and upheld in order for God’s family structure to survive and flourish. Prayer: Please pray that our legislators will re-consider their position on the sanctity of life, or at the least, parental rights.

2. Religious Liberty: HB 1178, Protecting the rights of religious freedom and conscience of individuals in their beliefs and practices from government discrimination

This bill restates the First Amendment, thus ensuring the protection of the rights of religious exercise and conscience from government discrimination, particularly in regards to the definition of marriage.

Prayer: Pray our legislator realize our vulnerability without this legislation.

3. Support of Israel: House Joint Memorial 4009, Condemning the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement against Israel

Support for Israel is one of CWA’s core issues. This bill would stop the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) movement against Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East and “the greatest friend and ally of the United States in the Middle East” (p. 1, line 21-22 of the bill).

Status: HJM 4009 was introduced February 2015 and has been stalled in the House Judiciary Committee since January 2017. Click here to read and track HJM 4009.

Prayer: Pray the plans of the BDS movement would be thwarted by the passing of this bill.

Let’s pray together that our legislators will be convicted by the Holy Spirit, and that sanctity of life, parental rights, religious liberty, and Israel’s welfare will be supported.

God bless you for your faithfulness in prayer and action.  Remember to educate others on these issues and pray they too will be obedient to the Word of God in all things.

February 2 Prayer/Action Alert: Obedience to God

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear Concerned Women for America of Washington Partner,

Mighty prayer and action warriors, will you join with Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Washington to take back the Evergreen State for God’s glory?  More and more people are ignoring the Bible’s moral teachings, but Scripture cannot be dismissed.  In Matthew 24:35, Christ says, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”  God’s principles and values are clear in His Word, and it is our responsibility as individuals and the Body of Christ to believe and do what He says –  even when it is inconvenient. Acts 5:29 says, “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said:  ‘We ought to obey God rather than man.’” I don’t know about you, but there are many other things I would rather be doing than standing up for Biblical principles in the public square.  But I know the Lord calls us to obedience – not comfort. As the people of Christ, we need to ask ourselves regularly if we are willing to obey, regardless of the cost.

ENCOURAGE-A-LEGISLATOR

It is not too late to start praying for a state legislator!  The 2018 session runs through March 8, and our senators and representatives continue to need prayer for God’s guidance.  I recently spoke with a state senator’s aide and asked if her senator was receiving the weekly prayer cards.  She confirmed that they were and how they were so appreciated.  So, please sign up for our Encourage-A-Legislator Campaign and help us cover all of our legislators with prayer this session! It is a simple commitment to pray every day for your assigned legislator and to send them an encouraging postcard once a week until the end of the session.  Please contact the state office by emailing us, calling 425-869-1923, or taking a minute to mail the form.  We will then assign you to a legislator and mail you the pre-printed postcards and a prayer guide.

LEGISLATION

There are many good bills and bad bills in Olympia right now.  As you may know, due to the current composition of the legislature, the good bills are unlikely to be heard in committee, much less be voted on, and the bad legislation is likely to easily pass.

With that said, we are still calling on you to take a stand on a handful of bills by contacting your legislators and challenging them to thoughtfully consider our position.  Regardless of what we think they will do, they need to be held accountable. They need to know that everybody is not with them. If we stay silent, it empowers them as they only hear from those who agree with their positions.  Let us do all we can to defuse their enthusiasm and possibly bring them one step closer to accepting the truth.

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” – Galatians 6:9

Note: When taking action on these bills, you simply need to call the Legislative Information Center Hotline at 1-800-562-6000 with your comments, give them your address, and they will be sure your message goes to the correct legislator.  During your conversation, be sure to let your legislators know that you are a participant with Concerned Women for America of Washington.  If you prefer to e-mail your legislators, click here to find their names and contact information.

This is the response I got from one senator’s office: “Thank you for writing in about SB 6037 on contract surrogacy.  The Senator is against this bill as it stands because he too believes in the dignity of the human person. He does not want women and children to be trafficked and treated like commodities, but respected like they should be.”  We thank the Lord for such senators.

Status:  SB 6037 passed out of the Senate Committee on Law & Justice, and it has yet to be assigned to the next committee.  Click here to read and track it.

Wouldn’t it be better for the state to promote adoption of the multitude of children in foster and state care rather than promote a baby-making business?  How can we take legislators seriously when they promote abortion at any point of a pregnancy, claiming the pre-born child is not a human being with the right to life, then turn around and claim it is okay to rent a woman’s body to produce a child and set a price on that life?  Where is the logic in that perspective?

Action: Please call the hotline at 1-800-562-6000 and ask your senators to oppose SB 6037, and express your opinions on paid contract surrogacy for human beings.  If we do nothing, we pave the way for the opposition to succeed and further destroy God’s plan for His creation.

SB 5722, Restricting the Practice of Conversion Therapy on Patients under Age Eighteen: OPPOSE

This bill makes it “unprofessional conduct” for a licensed health care provider to perform conversion therapy on a patient under the age of 18.

This is dangerous legislation.  Just last September, the American College of Pediatricians warned: “Endorsing gender discordance as normal via public education and legal policies will confuse children and parents, leading more children to present to ‘gender clinics’ where they will be given puberty-blocking drugs.”  Further, they note that as many as 88% of girls and 98% of boys will naturally outgrow any gender confusion by the end of puberty.

Status: SB 5722 passed out of the Senate and is now in the House Health Care & Wellness Committee.  Click here to read and track the bill.

In addition to being dangerous for the child, this bill is a threat to our family, parental, and religious rights. There are many parents who are grief-stricken about issues related to their children’s sexual identity.  This bill would shut down any options other than affirming therapy and lead us down the slippery slope of restricting parental rights and religious liberty.  Parents love their children and want the very best for them.  Shouldn’t parents be guiding their children rather than government officials?

While public education and culture are embracing and promoting sexual “freedom” of all sorts to our children, may we stand for and adhere to 1) the Word of God (“male and female He created them” – Genesis 1:27) and 2) biological facts – not feelings.

Action:  Please call the hotline at 1-800-562-6000 to ask your representatives to oppose SB 5722.

Sanctity of Life

SB 6219, Abortion Insurance Mandate: OPPOSE

This bill requires every insurance policy bought and sold in Washington to cover abortion procedures as well as drugs that cause abortions (abortifacients).  In addition it prohibits cost-sharing with the insured in the form of copays or deductibles for contraceptives and abortion.  It would enhance existing contraception coverage requirements and promote abortions while violating constitutionally-protected conscience rights of individuals, churches, businesses, and others. It would forcibly compel many of our state’s citizens to act against their consciences.  In addition to this being a life issue, it is a religious liberty issue as well.

Status: An amendment that would have protected conscience rights was rejected in committee.  SB 6219 passed in the Senate yesterday, and now the battle moves to the House. Click here to read and track this bill.

Action:  Please call the hotline at 1-800-562-6000 and ask your representatives to oppose SB 6219, and express your opinion.

Please join us in prayer concerning these bills.  Pray that legislators will be convicted by their consciences and that the issues of sanctity of life, parental rights, and religious liberty will be supported.

This is why elections matter.  In order for our values and principles to be well represented, we must put like-minded people into office.  Please pray for Christians to take this responsibility seriously by voting for people who respect our foundational documents, and even running for office, if the Lord leads.

God bless you for your faithfulness in prayer and action.  Remember to educate others on these issues and pray they too will be obedient to the Word of God in all things.

Standing with you,

URGENT: January 23 Action Alert – “Pray without ceasing”

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear CWA of Washington Member,

This prayer and action alert is to inform you of two bills that need your immediate attention and opposition.  Please pray and take action quickly.

SB 6037: This “Contract Surrogacy” bill would allow for-profit contract surrogacy, allowing women to conceive and sell babies for payment, above and beyond medical expenses. The bill treats children as a commodity and will allow would-be parents to prey upon desperate women.

The State Senate Law & Justice Committee is scheduled to vote on this bill on Thursday, January 25.

CWA of Washington strongly opposes this bill, because women and children are not commodities to be rented or sold.  Every human being has inherent dignity, but paid human surrogacy dehumanizes both the mother and the child by placing a price on the surrogate mother’s body and the child’s life. This has no consideration or respect for the woman as an individual, nor God’s plan for a woman’s unique and precious role as wife, child bearer, and mother.

Take Action TODAY:

  1. Call and/or email members of the Senate Law & Justice Committee today to express your opinion on SB 6037.  Click here for their names and contact information. Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.
  2. Call and/or email your senator today to express your opinion on SB 6037.  Click here to find out who he/she is and how to contact him/her. Be sure to let him/her know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.

SB 6219: The “Free Abortions for All” bill would 1) require that every insurance policy covering maternity care also cover abortions, and 2) require that the state fund abortions for those who don’t have insurance. Shockingly, the measure provides no conscience clause to protect any of us from forced participation. In the past, there has been a weak provision for religious or conscientious objection, but there is no such language in this bill.  For example, churches and other faith-based organizations employ and provide insurance for thousands of citizens, and this bill would demand that abortion is included in all of their policies.

SB 6219 is currently in the Senate Health & Long Term Care Committee.  It has not been scheduled for a committee vote yet.

CWA of Washington strongly opposes SB 6219, because it is an affront to the sanctity of human life, religious liberty, and the free exercise thereof, and the conscience rights of all citizens.

Take Action:

  1. Call and/or email members of the Senate Health & Long Term Care Committee today to express your opinion on SB 6219.  Click here for their names and contact information. Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.
  2. Call and/or email your senator today to express your opinion on SB 6219.  Click here to find out who he/she is and how to contact him/her. Be sure to let him/her know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Washington.

Every pro-life voice needs to be heard in opposition to these bills!  Please pass this information on to friends, family, and your pastor. Encourage them to both pray and take action.

1 Thess. 5:17 tells us to “pray without ceasing.” Please pray for both of these bills to fail. Pray for the hearts and minds of those currently supporting these two bills to be changed.

Thank you for making a difference with your prayers and action!

With you for the dignity of women and the sanctity of all human life,

Maureen Richardson

January 17 Action Alert – … that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life …

By | Washington | No Comments

Dear CWA of Washington Member,

New Year’s greetings from the Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Washington office!  We hope you celebrated the Christmas season and enjoyed all that reminds us of God’s special gift of Christ Jesus, our Savior.

In this new year, we hope and pray you will stay committed to your Biblical principles and stand alongside CWA of Washington in our goals to protect families, religious liberty, parental rights in our children’s education and welfare, the sanctity of all human life, U.S. sovereignty, and the support for Israel—all through prayer, education, and action!

Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL)!  God’s people must continue to pray for all those in authority. In I Timothy 2:1-3, Paul exhorted Timothy, “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” One way to obey Paul’s exhortation is to join our EAL campaign to pray for all 147 Washington State legislators. The 2018 session began on January 8, and we so need to cover all the senators and representatives with our prayers.  Please contact the state office by emailing us, calling 425-869-1923, or taking a minute to mail the form.

March For Life!  Join pro-life individuals from the state on Monday, January 22, in Olympia.  The event begins at noon by gathering on the Capitol’s front steps.  Enjoy listening to wonderful March for Life speakers as well as legislators.  Click here for more information.  Plan to visit your legislators to let them know you came for the march and that you want them to support the sanctity of human life in 2018.  If you can, make an appointment so that you have time to interact with either your legislators or their legislative aides.

Tracking, acting, and praying on state legislation. Now that the state legislative session has begun, CWA will be watching for bills related to our seven core issues.  We will notify you of the bills we choose, and we will encourage you to contact your legislators in order to participate in our democratic Republic by sharing your opinions and insights on our issues.  Watch for our alerts in the coming weeks, and please share them with other concerned citizens who need to become involved in our democratic process.  We are so fortunate to have this opportunity. Let’s not squander the privilege and responsibility by ignoring our civic duty.  Please pray, educate yourself, and then follow up with appropriate action in a letter, phone call, e-mail, and/or visit to your state representatives and senator.

Please renew your CWA membership so we can continue sending alerts, continue the EAL program, and we can continue representing your values in Washington.  Please renew your membership by filling out and sending in our membership form.  Be sure to write your check out to “Concerned Women for America” and put “CWA of WA” on the memo line.  Or, click here to give online.
