Indefensible Roe –The Spiritual Track

By | Indefensible Roe, LBB, Legal, News and Events, Publications, Sanctity of Life | No Comments

Thank you for reading. Throughout the Indefensible Roe series, we have explored how the infamous Roe v. Wade decision that opened the door to the more than 62 million babies killed in abortion in the U.S. since 1973 has no basis to stand on today as the Supreme Court reexamines its validity in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The Supreme Court’s meddling in abortion policy has been a complete failure—a betrayal of the most fundamental principles of liberty. We have discussed how Roe and its supporting cases are indefensible legally, as a matter of policyscientifically, and today we explore perhaps its most tragic failure: the spiritual one.

Though some may be tempted to dismiss this aspect of the discussion as somehow outside the bounds of the legal/policy discussion, I submit to you that the injustice of abortion strikes at the heart of the legal case. As Aquinas put it, an unjust law is no law at all, but a sort of violence:

Human law is law only by virtue of its accordance with right reason; and thus it is manifest that it flows from the eternal law. And in so far as it deviates from right reason it is called an unjust law; in such case it is no law at all, but rather a species of violence. (Summa Theologiae, Ia-Ilae, q. xciii, art. 3, ad 2m.)

Further, the social consequences of the spiritual atrophy our country has suffered in the last 50 years, following the selfish, deathly path of abortion, have brought our country to the brink of self-destruction.

Look around. We are not a healthy nation.

Marching for Life in D.C.

By | Virginia | No Comments

By Ashley A. Reich, CWA of Virginia’s Lynchburg Prayer/Action Chapter Leader of the evening group.

On Friday, January 21, I joined thousands of people who met on the lawn of the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for the annual March for Life. The morning brought below-freezing temperatures, but the crowd was enthusiastic and knew their mission was greater than what weather could throw at them. Groups gathered at the National Mall all morning and enjoyed a concert prior to the many renowned speakers and elected officials.

Students, parents, children, and supporters were present, and many dressed in similar attire that represented their specific school or organization. Many carried signs, banners, and flags expressing their pro-life stance of “We ARE THE POST-ROE GENERATION,” “Love them BOTH,” “Voice for the Voiceless,” “Pro-Life is Pro-Woman,” and so many more. As the march began, you could hear the chants and cheers for the unborn as the crowd walked a mile to the steps of the Supreme Court. Along the way, many conversed about their beliefs and hopes for the upcoming cases such as the Texas Heartbeat Bill and Dobbs v. Jackson, and ultimately, an end to Roe v. Wade.

Please continue to be in prayer for these monumental cases over the next few months leading up to the final decisions. Join Concerned Women for America (CWA) in praying for the Dobbs case on the fourth Monday of every month until June, when a decision is expected to be handed down. If you would like to be regularly notified about the current issue of the day, as well as CWA’s monthly Dobbs webinar prayer call, be sure to sign up for e-alerts if you haven’t already.

Praying for Dobbs

Six Month Spiritual Engagement for Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health

The December 1 oral arguments for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health were just the beginning of our pro-life efforts for this case. If the Court keeps to its historical track record of rendering decisions on “controversial” cases in the last weeks of its term, the Dobbs decision will likely be announced by the end of June.

Until the Supreme Court renders its decision, our posture must be on our knees before the Lord. CWA is encouraging our leaders, members, and friends across the country to set aside the fourth Monday of the next six months, beginning January 24, for focused prayer on the Dobbs case. Using the 30 Days of Prayer for Life prayer booklet and our monthly prayer points listed below, we encourage you to gather together people to pray in person, over the phone, or via Zoom.

Monday, January 24, 2022

Using the 30 Days of Prayer for Life booklet, read silently or aloud prayers 1, 2, 13, 14, and 15.

Strategic Prayer Points:

  • Pray that the March for Life, held on January 21 in Washington, D.C., had a great spiritual impact on the Justices and their law clerks as they continue to study and prepare their opinions for the Dobbs vs Jackson case.
  • Pray for the media, that they will see the importance of the March for Life in light of the Dobbs case and choose to report on the march and the case both fairly and accurately.
  • Pray that the decision of the Dobbs case will end the federal scourge of abortion on our nation.
February – June prayer points will be listed soon.

Penny Nance Speaks at Supreme Court Rally for Life

By | Dobbs, News and Events, Sanctity of Life | No Comments

12.1.21: A day to remember. Concerned Women for America was proud to help bring thousands of activists and college students from all over the country to Washington, D.C., to pray on the steps of the Supreme Court today while the Justices heard oral arguments in the biggest abortion case of our lifetime.

While we have a few months to wait until the final decision that could end the culture of abortion in America, we are so encouraged by the passion of the prayer warriors who stepped up to defend the least of these.

Ms. Magazine Creates New Site Entitled “Abortion Is Essential to Democracy”

By | News and Events, Sanctity of Life | No Comments

Ms. magazine has partnered with a law and policy institute to create a new website called “Abortion Is Essential to Democracy.”

From the article, Penny Nance responds: “The pro-abortion movement is built on lies. When Roe v. Wade was decided, they had wrong or incomplete science that has finally caught up to the left’s lies. If the goal of this initiative is really ‘Justice for all,’ as they stated, then that should include the unborn baby.”

Pro-Life Rally in Belgrade Lakes

By | Maine | No Comments

Pro-life leaders and pro-life supporters gathered at the gazebo in Belgrade Lakes to celebrate pro-life victories and to pray for the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a case challenging the constitutionality of a Mississippi state law that places strict limits on abortions after 15 weeks. Oral arguments on the Dobbs case will be heard at the Supreme Court of the United States on December 1.

Concerned Women for America of Maine joined Christian Civic League of Maine Policy Director Mike McClellan, Wendy Merrill, Executive Director of 1st Choice Pregnancy Center in Waterville, Students For Life, and Mariah McCarron from West Virginia, all of who shared with attendees what is happening in the pro-life movement from their perspectives.

We also had a surprising story from David Clinard, a respiratory therapist for over 35 years. He told about a life-changing event he experienced his very first year on the job. It was moving! During the event, a 19-year-old female interrupted one of our speakers to let the crowd know that she had an abortion and considered it the best thing for her to do so she could finish college. God was able to use this sad moment as Wendy Merrill stepped forward and asked the attendees to pray for this young woman. Science is changing the hearts and minds on the issue of life, and the pro-abortionists know it.

We can’t give up. We must persevere. Our love for God causes us to do so.  We are His ambassadors, called by Him, and He has a purpose for each one of us.

Pro-Abortion Judge Undermines Law to Protect “the Precious”

Washington, D.C. – Penny Nance, President and CEO of Concerned Women for America (CWA), the largest public policy organization for women in the nation, had this to say after U.S. District Court Judge Robert Pitman granted the Biden Administration’s request for a preliminary injunction blocking the Texas Heartbeat Act (S.B. 8):

“Pro-abortion judicial activists cannot help themselves. You can almost hear Gollum’s voice protecting his “precious” as Judge Pitman called this law, duly enacted by the democratic process with the support of the overwhelming majority of Texans, an ‘offensive deprivation of such an important right.’ So, he does what even the United States Supreme Court refused to do and frustrates the will of ‘we the people’ to force his preferred policy views unto the people of Texas.

“What is lost in all the legal jargon is that Judge Pitman’s blinding hubris will result in the death of the more than 100 babies a day that were being saved by this law. We think of the thousands of women who will experience that “grief more anguished and sorrow more profound,” which Justice Kennedy acknowledges in Carhart is experienced by women who regret their abortion.

“That is what motivates CWA activists and the greater pro-life community. It is hard for pro-abortion radicals to comprehend, but we are fighting to save lives and protect women from a great evil. We will not be deterred.

“The days of callous, unrestricted abortion promotion in America are over. The millions that supported the Texas Heartbeat bill, from both sides of the aisle, will continue to fight. Most Americans want to ban late-term abortions and place considerable restrictions on them during the first trimester.

“The science is on our side, and no pro-abortion judicial activist can stand in the way of it. The future is pro-life.”

Concerned Women for America is the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization with a rich history of over 40 years.

So Let’s Talk About Texas
