Disappointed the Temporary Injunction Continues

Bismarck, North Dakota – Concerned Women for America (CWA) of North Dakota is saddened for the lives of the unborn who will continue to go unprotected after the decision of the North Dakota Supreme Court not to lift a temporary injunction preventing an abortion ban from taking effect in the state.

Linda Thorson, Concerned Women for America of North Dakota State Director, had this to say about the Court’s decision: “We are deeply saddened the North Dakota Supreme Court Justices did not lift the injunction placed against the trigger ban. However, we are also profoundly grateful for the efforts of state lawmakers who continue to work during this legislative session to protect the health and life of all mothers and children. As the lawsuit against the trigger ban moves forward, we are hopeful district court officials will honor state laws written to protect life.”

Obscenity Bill Moving – Take Action!

By | North Dakota | No Comments

Your voice is needed! Obscene material has been found in at least 40 locations in K-12 grade schools and children’s sections of public libraries across North Dakota. It is reprehensible to have sexually explicit content accessible to children.

SB 2360, a good bill that passed in the State Senate, will be heard by the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, March 14. The bill protects minors by prohibiting the promotion of obscenity, objectionable materials, and obscene performance.

You can read my letter in the Fargo Forum , which provides more reasons SB 2360 is needed.   Letter: We are grateful for lawmakers working to make libraries safe places for children – InForum | Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo news, weather and sports

SB 2360 needs to pass. Taxpayers should not be forced to pay for material that is harmful to children. Also, allowing children to view sexually explicit material is sexual abuse as defined under the North Dakota Department of Human Services, Mandated Reporters.

Please Take Action:

Contact members of the House Judiciary Committee to ask for their support of SB 2360. Ask them to vote a “Do Pass” on SB 2360. The committee members are listed below my signature. If you are a member of Concerned Women for America of North Dakota, please let them know.

Girls’ Sports Bills Are Moving! Calls Needed to State Representatives

By | North Dakota | No Comments

Thank you to everyone for contacting the House Human Services Committee! Your calls and emails relating to fair competition and equality in girls’ sports for all North Dakota female athletes made a difference! The committee gave both HB 1249 and HB 1489 a “Do Pass” recommendation by a vote of 9 to 3.

There is no denial, “No male, however he identifies, will ever shed his XY chromosomes, menstruate, or give birth,” said Penny Young Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America. Policies allowing for inclusion in sex-specific sports on the basis of “gender identity” have no substantiation in biological fact or valid medical research to defend males competing in female athletics. Read more about the issue here: Women’s Group Endorses Legislation to Protect Female Athletes on National Girls & Women in Sports Day – Concerned Women for America

HB 1249 and HB 1489 will protect women’s sports at North Dakota high schools and institutions of higher education by “designating athletic teams and sports for male, female or coed participation.” This legislation prohibits male-born athletes from entering women’s sports as transwomen.

CWA of North Dakota submitted testimony on both bills. See HB 1249 and HB 1489.

It’s not over! We need to urge all of the members of the North Dakota House of Representatives to vote in favor of HB 1249 and HB 1489! They must hear from those who stand with us to ensure fair competition and equality in women’s sports!

ACT TODAY! Please email, call, or tweet your State Representative through our Action Center HERE and urge them to protect women’s sports. Girls should not be forced to compete against men playing on women’s sports teams.

Forward this email to family and friends! Every email message and every phone call are counted!

Please Pray: Pray for our legislators that God would give them the wisdom and understanding to accomplish His purposes.

Action Needed: 1st and 14th Amendment Rights Threatened

By | North Dakota | No Comments

Will you help pass a great piece of legislation? An important bill relating to preferred pronouns and school policies on expressed gender was heard by the Senate Judiciary Committee members on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. A member of the committee, Sen. Larry Luick (R-District 25), sponsored the bill. See his contact information below and send Sen. Luick a message to thank him!

The First and Fourteenth Amendment rights of employees are being threatened. SB 2231 protects those rights! Forcing teachers to use “preferred pronouns” infringes on a teacher’s right to free speech and the free exercise of religion. Policies that require a student to be referred to by gender, non-binary, or plural pronouns, or other gendered languages that are different from the student’s biological sex violate the religious belief that God assigns sex at conception and is a conflict for those unwilling to compromise their beliefs.

Read Concerned Women for America (CWA)’s important information on this issue. Campus Insanity – Concerned Women for America and Back to School and “Gender Identity” Indoctrination – Concerned Women for America

CWA of North Dakota submitted written and online audio testimony on the bill. The Senate Judiciary members will be voting on SB 2231 as early as Monday, January 30.

The Senate Committee Members must hear from those who stand with us on prohibiting a public school from adopting a policy or practice regarding expressed gender. Please urge the committee members to give SB 2231 a do-pass recommendation.

Please Take Action:

  1. Email or call the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee listed below my signature line and ask them to vote a “Do Pass” on SB 2231. If you are a member of Concerned Women for America of North Dakota, please let them know. Do not hesitate to leave a message on their voicemail.
  2. Forward this email to family and friends! Every email message and every phone call are counted!

Suggested message:

Please vote “Do Pass” on HB 2231. Protect the First and Fourteenth Amendment rights of Public School teachers.

Speak Up to Protect Children from Harm

By | North Dakota | No Comments

“It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.” Luke 17:2

Sanford Health, the “largest rural health care system in the United States,” along with The Transformation Project, will be participating in the 3rd Annual Midwest Gender Identity Summit on January 13, 2023. The event will be held at the Sanford Research Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Transformation Project is a non-profit whose mission is “supporting and empowering transgender youth.” They promote the lie that “men and women can change their gender.” They conduct events “where participants, including children, ritually ‘burn’ their ‘old name or pronouns.’”

According to the Transformation Project website, several of the Summit’s session topics include:

  • Supporting Your Two-Spirit & Native LGBTQ+ Patients and Coworkers
  • Learning to Address Implicit Bias Towards LGBTQ+ & 2S Patients
  • General Affirming Care and The Attitude of Affirmation in Assessment

Concerned Women for America (CWA) of North Dakota find these activities very disturbing, especially among a healthcare institution that takes an oath to “do no harm.” It is ironic that health care providers blatantly deny the science that tells us one cannot change their God-given sex. Children struggling with gender confusion should be protected from unethical medical interventions that ignore underlying causes and reject long-term health and well-being.

No long term, scientific research exists to support the safety or efficacy of sex reassignment treatments on children – in fact, there is evidence to the contrary. A 30-year study in Sweden showed a significant increase in heart disease and in the number of suicides, suicide attempts, and psychiatric hospitalizations in people a decade after they have undergone sex-reassignment surgery compared to a control group of people of the same age and sex.

To encourage attendance, “medical professionals” attending the event will be awarded professional education credits.

TAKE ACTION TODAY!

Contact Bill Gassen, President and CEO of Sanford Health, at [email protected] or by calling the Sanford Medical Center at 605-333-1000, and strongly urge him to cancel the January 13 Midwest Gender Identity Summit in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, we pray for those struggling with gender dysphoria that they will believe the truth about Your design for them found in Scriptures and reject the lies of Satan.  Let them see truth in Your Word that says, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female He created them.” We ask for protection of the hearts and minds of all our children, and we pray for Christians to courageously and lovingly speak God’s truth about Your design for sexuality in a confused and needy world.

Encourage-A-Legislator Prayer Project – North Dakota

By | North Dakota | No Comments

Encourage-A-Legislator Program

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” – I Timothy 2:1-2

The Call to Prayer

I Timothy 2:1-2 instructs us to pray for our leaders. Concerned Women for America’s (CWA) Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL) program offers our members and friends the vehicle to do this in an easy and meaningful way. It ensures consistent prayer for each legislator, and it encourages and builds bridges with conservative legislators as well as those who do not normally agree with us.

Whether a legislator is a believer, non-believer, conservative, liberal, Democrat, Republican, independent, or other, they need our prayers. This next legislative session, CWA plans to deliver those prayers.

The Goal

The goal of the EAL program is to encourage each member of the State House and Senate by praying for them on a regular basis and sending them a postcard throughout the legislative session.

The EAL program is never used to lobby and, therefore, is never confrontational. It is simply a great way to lift up those in authority and encourage them in their responsibilities.

The Commitment

We provide the name and address of the assigned legislator(s) and the postcards, and you commit to praying for your assigned legislator(s) daily, if possible, while the legislature is in session, and then mail an EAL postcard bi-weekly until the conclusion of the four-month session.

The North Dakota Legislature

The North Dakota Legislature is in session from January 3 until April 28 and consists of 94 House members and 47 Senate members.

Answer the Call

Sign up today to be an encourager—it couldn’t be easier! Sign up by contacting CWA of North Dakota’s Encourage-A-Legislator Coordinator Linda Werven at 701-521-1001 or by email at [email protected] and provide her with your name and physical mailing address. Be sure to specify how many legislators you would like to encourage. She will then enlist you as an encourager and send you a packet of postcards and instructions in January.

Spread the Word!

Please encourage your friends and family to sign up.

Consider making this a family project by involving your children.

Print and distribute information about this great opportunity to pray and encourage your state legislators. Click here for a printable push card. Print them double-sided on cardstock or order them through the contact information above.

Concerned Women for America of North Dakota Supports
Bipartisan “Trigger Statute” Soon to Go Into Effect

Bismarck, North Dakota – Attorney General Drew Wrigley announced this morning that he hand-delivered a letter to the North Dakota Legislative Council today in response to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

The 2007 bipartisan “trigger bill,” House Bill 1466, banning abortion, was written to take effect should the Roe precedent be overturned. Its primary sponsor was former Rep. James Kerzman, a Democrat.   Many other Democrat House members voted to pass the bill, including the current Minority Leader, Sen. Joan Heckaman (New Rockford), Sen. Richard Marcellais (Belcourt), and Sen. Tim Mathern (Fargo).

Concerned Women for America (CWA) of North Dakota State Director Linda Thorson, speaking for Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, has this to say concerning the certification of the 2007 legislation regulating abortion:

“We are grateful that the North Dakota Legislature passed a strongly supported bipartisan ‘trigger statute’ that goes into effect next month! North Dakota stands ready to welcome women and unborn children. Our citizens, members of the state legislature, and our state administration have strongly supported a culture of life that protects all.”

“We are not so naive as to think that no more abortions will occur. After 50 years of a culture of death, we still have hearts and minds to change. We must continue to lovingly support and encourage women in their pregnancies. We must declare respect for life from the moment of conception and understand that all life is precious. We must recognize that we are created in the image of God.”

Concerned Women for America (CWA) of North Dakota State Director Linda Thorson, speaking for Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, has this to say concerning the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Supreme Court decision:

“We appreciate Gov. Doug Burgum’s released statement in May of 2022 about the decision regarding Roe v. Wade, in which he stated, ‘While recognizing that the U.S. Supreme Court has yet to issue an official opinion, our administration has consistently supported pro-life legislation, and we welcome the prospect of this issue being returned to the states where it belongs.’

“Well, the Supreme Court has finally overturned Roe, and now it is up to us, the people of North Dakota, to do our part. Thank you, Gov. Calls Needed for UND Gender Policy Proposal

By | North Dakota | No Comments

The University of North Dakota (UND) has a proposed “gender inclusion” policy that infringes on the free speech rights of students, faculty, staff, and visitors and creates an unhealthy student housing environment.

Although the proposed policy has been removed from the UND website, the North Dakota Catholic Conference saved a copy posted in the fall of 2021. As you can read, the policy goes beyond setting rules for administration procedures for respecting a person’s preferred name and pronoun, and it goes beyond the claim that it only addresses the intentional misuse of pronouns. Read these two excerpts:

“Proposed policy for Programs, Activities, Facilities, and Benefits:  University members may participate in university activities and programs consistent with their gender identities including, but not limited to, housing, recreation services, and activities, and camp programs.”

“Use of Facilities:  Students, employees, and visitors may access restrooms, locker rooms, and other facilities consistent with their gender identity and expression and are not required to use UND facilities inconsistent with their gender identity and expression or to use alternative facilities.”

The details of the proposal can be found here.

This policy is in the proposal stage, but since there is no indication that the University has stopped the procedure from putting it in place, your calls are needed now!

Take Action! – Contact the following people and ask them to reject UND’s proposed “gender inclusion” policy. Your message does not need to be long. If you send an email, be sure to include your name and mailing address. Please remember to be courteous.

  1. Mayor Brandon Bochenski: (701)746-2607 | bbochens[email protected].
  2. UND President Andrew Armacost: (701)222-2121 | [email protected]
  3. Assistant Vice President of Equal Opportunity and Title IX Donna Smith: (701) 777-4172 | [email protected]
  4. Forward this on to family and friends!

Pray! We ask for continued prayer that truth and righteousness prevail. Pray for each individual by name as you contact them. “… to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.” (Acts 26:18)

Tell North Dakota Senators: Don’t Draft Our Daughters!

By | North Dakota | No Comments

In July, the Senate Armed Services Committee approved the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022 with an amendment requiring young women to register with Selective Service for a possible future draft. This behind closed doors action faced immediate criticism—as did certain Senators who supported it. Sen. Kevin Cramer (Republican) serves as a member on the US Senate Committee on Armed Services and voted not only on the committee version of the NDAA with the women in the draft language but also voted on the actual amendment that added the women in the draft language to the NDAA itself.

On September 23, the House passed NDAA legislation with a provision reversing military policy for a male-only draft and forcing young women to register for the first time in history. Rep. Kelly Armstrong (Republican) voted in opposition to the bill. Thank you, Rep. Armstrong!

Debate in the full Senate is expected soon, and we need a loud message to tell our North Dakota Senators to take a stand against drafting our daughters! American women are free to serve and proud to serve, but they should not be forced to serve. Women’s equality does not mean being the same as men.

Click here for more information on women in the draft.

Act Today!
Contact Sens. Kevin Cramer and John Hoeven (Republican) and urge them to hold the line and vote to reject the Draft our Daughters’ amendment and support the Don’t Draft Our Daughters’ Resolution (S.Res.340) on the NDAA.
Click here to send an e-mail to both Senators, or you can contact the senators individually at the information below and provide this message: reject the Draft our Daughters’ amendment and support the Don’t Draft Our Daughters’ Resolution (S.Res. 340).

  • Sen. Kevin Cramer: (202) 224-2043 | E-Mail
  • Sen. John Hoeven: (202) 224-2551 | E-Mail

There is no justification for reversing established military policy that protects young women from gambling with their lives in combat roles on a Biden-Harris-declared national emergency. We should not be willing to sacrifice common sense and tie the hands of our military with costly mandates for social experiments in our armed forces.
