On March 26, 2025, the North Dakota Supreme Court heard the case regarding the appeal of our abortion laws that protect women and all life.

Background: On September 12, 2024, District Judge Bruce Romanick struck down the state’s abortion ban stating in his summary judgment that the law was “unconstitutionally void for vagueness.” His opinion wiped out all restrictions on abortion in our state. It removed all protections in the law that had input and approval from the North Dakota Hospital and Medical Associations. Concerned Women for America of North Dakota is thankful Attorney General Drew Wrigley defended our laws and appealed Romanick’s judgement to the State Supreme Court.

There was no justification for reversing our state’s abortion law which represents the values of the majority of North Dakota citizens and which passed through the legislative process and was signed into law by former Gov. Doug Burgum. 

The state began the defense of our abortion laws by saying, “North Dakota recognizes unborn children as human beings. So, we are talking about when our Constitution provides a right to intentionally kill a human being, and related to that point the U.S. Supreme Court has long held, even during the Roe years, that ‘abortion is inherently different from other medical procedures because no other procedure involves the deliberate termination of a life.’ So, treating this case as if it involved run-of-the-mill health care decisions would be a mistake.”

We expect the North Dakota Supreme Court to announce their decision regarding the stay on our abortion laws before summer.

A call to prayer.  Jesus said to pray for His kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Please join me in praying for our North Dakota Supreme Court justices by name. Pray that God’s ways will be established in our state and the lives of our unborn children will be protected. May our Heavenly Father give each North Dakota Supreme Court Justice the eyes to see that life in the womb deserves to be protected.
