For America (Day 37)

Today’s prayer is an excerpt from the invocation delivered by Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Billy Graham’s Evangelistic Association Crusade on New York City, July 18, 1957:

[LBB] The Most Powerful MLK Document

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail contains (to me) the most significant words he ever uttered.   I know it is a matter of perspective, but his words in this letter stir my soul in a way that not even his “I Have a Dream” speech is able to do.

For America (Day 36)

A prayer of thanksgiving to the God Who has shed His grace upon America. It because of Your grace and love for mankind That we are not consumed in Your wrath.

Remarks by Former Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran

“Standing for Our Faith Rally,” Georgia State Capitol January 13, 2015 Transcript: Good afternoon everyone.  I am overwhelmed and humbled by this tremendous show of support.  And by the powerful words spoken by these men and women of God this afternoon.

Fired for His Faith

Kelvin Cochran is a distinguished public servant.  And he is a Christian.  The two things are increasingly incongruent in the highly charged and secularized United States of America.

For America (Day 35)

Our God and Creator, In 1776 America was a national experiment of freedoms the world had never seen before, and You have kept Your hands on us since then. You are the Author of our unalienable rights.

For America (Day 34)

Today, Lord, we want to offer a prayer for the family, That magnificent unit of Your design, when you proclaim that glorious day, That “Man shall leave his mother and father and be joined to his wife” And that these two “shall become one …”

For America (Day 33)

We cry out for our nation, We cry out for those in deep need, In this new year, O Lord We pray that a spirit of service And love for one another may reign In 2015, where we hold tightly to Your beautiful admonition, “Love God above all and your neighbors as yourself.”

For America (Day 32)

Make us one. Make us one. Make us one undivided body. Lord, we need Your help! Our country is divided along racial lines now more than it has been in a long time. God, help the Church to see the truth that we are from one race – the human race.

For America (Day 31)

Great God, We lift our voices on behalf of our country, America. Who are we that You should think of us and even care for us? You are the God of all creation, no matter how hard some try to ignore it.

So You Want to Restore the Filibuster?

Reports started to trickle down last week after a GOP meeting behind closed doors of a great divide among Republican senators on whether or not to restore the filibuster for judicial nominees when they take back the majority, undoing the so-called “nuclear option” deployed by Democrats when they were in the majority.

For America (Day 30)

Dear Heavenly Father, Look upon us with Your mercy. Hear the desperate cry of those who are willing to acknowledge You. Father, we do not ask You for more “stuff” but rather for more mercy, kindness, and protection- not that we deserve anything from Your hand.

For America (Day 29)

Loving Father, we give You thanks With a word, a song, service or poem, yea with our whole lives We praise You, Who created everything, You Who are from everlasting to everlasting.

For America (Day 28)

A prayer of unity we bring to You today, Lord, For we overflow with Your undeserved love, Your care and compassion, Your slowness to anger, and Your quickness to forgive. Put the same heart in us, Father God.

The Beauty of God’s Model for Marriage on Display

I told you about the recent Vatican conference on the complementarity of man and woman. It was billed as an international colloquium where leaders and scholars of many different religions and worldviews across the globe discussed the uniqueness of the relationship of one man and one woman in marriage. For America (Day 27)

Mighty God, we give you thanks, For Your provision and direction, For Your sovereignty and wisdom, For the numerous blessings You have bestowed on our land. Holy is Your name!

For America (Day 26)

Precious Father, You are our dwelling place, Our refuge and safe haven. From generation to generation we turn to You For there is none other in Heaven or Earth – None who can bring the peace that You give
