Georgia: We Need Your Help TODAY to Stop the Equal Rights Amendment!

By | Georgia | No Comments

40 years ago, Concerned Women for America (CWA) formed as an organization and became the leading conservative voice for women across America. The battle at that time is the same battle raging in Georgia today: a fight to ratify an Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).  CWA opposed the ERA then; we do so today, and we need your help to stop it from moving forward in the Georgia legislature.

In America women enjoy equal rights and protection under the law. So, what is the driving motivation behind the ERA? It is not about equal rights; it is about the promotion of a gender-neutral agenda through the suppression of natural differences between men and women. This very dangerous amendment removes all differences — social, biological and sexual — between males and females while granting enormous flexibility to increasingly activist judges to interpret the amendment as they deem appropriate.

Consider these ERA basics:

  • Misleads publicized purpose – the ERA is not about equal rights for women. If it were, it would duplicate the 14th Amendment.
  • Contradicts years of social science — men and women are different.  The ERA would remove all legal distinctions between sexes. It does not mention “women.”
  • Wipes out all ability to use any laws using gender as a defining characteristic.  This would overturn workplace and family laws that protect women, privacy laws that define who may use gender-oriented bathrooms and locker rooms, and religious freedom laws. The ERA would integrate same-sex and bi-sexual attraction into the U.S. Constitution.

Please take action!
There are two identical ERA resolutions in the Georgia senate: SR 55, sponsored by Sen. Nan Orrock (Democrat-District 36) and SR 66, sponsored by Sen. Renee Unterman (Republican-District 45).  Our voices must be clear and unrelenting in our opposition. Please do the following:

  1. Contact Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan and respectfully ask him to oppose both ERA resolutions and not to allow committee hearings on either resolution. Be sure to tell him you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Georgia.  Phone: 404-656-5030/ Online contact form
  2. Contact your state senator and respectfully ask him/her to oppose the ERA. Click here to locate your senator. Simply type in your address to find his/her contact information. Be sure to tell him/her you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Georgia.
  3. SR 55 has been assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Please contact the members of the committee and respectfully ask them to vote “NO” on SR 55 should it have a hearing.

4. Pass this e-alert on to others. Encourage them to both pray and act immediately.

Please keep this important issue in prayer. Pray for the Lt. Governor, your state senator, and each member of the committee as you contact them. Pray they will have the wisdom and courage to oppose the ERA.

Thank you in advance for your diligence through both your prayers and actions.
