It’s Election Day: Pray and Vote!

By | Virginia | No Comments
Dear Fellow Virginians,

Today is a critical day in Virginia. Voters go the polls to elect their Delegate and Senator and other important down-ballot races. Throughout the day, would you please pray for the following:

Pray for God’s hedge of protection over our nation, even during the election.
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
Psalm 91:9-12

Pray that the election process—personnel and voting equipment—will perform with honesty and integrity.
Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight or quantity. Use honest scales and honest weights … Leviticus 19:35-36

Pray that God’s will be done, our state be blessed with Godly and principled leaders, and His name be glorified.
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Romans 13:1

Our votes and prayers do matter. Please do both today!

Tomorrow’s Election Prayer Point

By | Virginia | No Comments

Dear Fellow Virginians,

Tomorrow Virginians will cast a very important vote in our commonwealth’s history. The candidates couldn’t be more different in their positions on crucial moral issues. As the battle escalates over infanticide, liberal indoctrination on Virginia college campuses, transgender policies, the shredding of religious freedoms, and the expansion of government-sanctioned gambling, we need strong officials in our House of Delegates and State Senate to defend us. We need courageous leaders to stand up to the war against our Constitution. We need God’s divine intervention. Our help must come from God.

Please commit to pray now and until all ballots have been counted. Please add anything else the Lord may lay on your heart.Prayer and Scripture focus for Monday, November 4:
Dear Heavenly Father, please shine Your favor on Your candidates. Help voters to see the truth. Give all Christ-honoring candidates Your victory. Amen.

For great is Your love, higher than the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, let Your glory be over all the earth. With God we will gain the victory… Psalm 108:4,5,13

The Lord foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of His heart through all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He chose for His inheritance. Psalm 33:10-12

Virginia Elections: Friday Prayer Point and Pray at Your Polling Place

By | Virginia | No Comments
Dear Fellow Virginians,
When the ancient Israelites entered the Promised Land, their first obstacle was the great walled city of Jericho. As Joshua and the men prepared to conquer the city, God gave them a clear battle strategy. They were to walk around the great city once a day for six days without speaking one word. On the final day, they silently circled the city seven times. What went through the minds of these untrained warriors as they only heard the tramping feet of their fellow countrymen? Did they hear taunts from above as Jericho citizens jeered? They saw the great wall up close. Did they tremble in fear at the overwhelming size of this fortress city? Did they feel outnumbered and unprepared? How many realized that their only hope for victory would be from God? During the silent trek, how many called out to God in prayer? How many asked Him to do the impossible?Today, we need God to do the impossible for us. We too have the opportunity to call out to Him and ask Him to give us a fair election. May He crumble our opponents like He crumbled the walls of Jericho!

Strategy, prayer and Scripture focus for Friday, November 1:
Here’s a simple strategy: On or before the evening of November 4 (preferably before dark), go to your local polling precinct (fill in the information on the form to locate your polling location). Take a few like-minded friends and march around the building or grounds. Pray out loud or silently asking God to make sure no fraud will succeed in the precinct the next day. Pray for only a fair vote to come from the precinct. Below are a few requests. Please feel free to add whatever God lays on your heart. (If you can’t make it to your polling place on or before November 5, please pray at a convenient time as often as you can.)

Prayer while at your polling place:
Dear Heavenly Father, we lift up this polling place. We pray there will be no tampering with machines, ballots, or any confusion causing voters to mis-vote. We pray any attempts at fraud would fail and/or be caught. We ask that all ballots cast would be fair ballots. Help voters not to be deceived but to see the whole truth. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers. Proverbs 21:15

Virginia Elections: Thursday Prayer Point

By | Virginia | No Comments
Dear Fellow Virginians,
Election Day is getting close.  As we prepare ourselves to vote and elect the members of our Commonwealth legislature, we should never lose track of the number one objective as we pray for our leaders.  Our role as citizens is very simply stated for us in II Timothy 2:24-26,

“The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to each, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil having been held captive by him to do his will.”
As we pray for the election results, let us also pray for the hearts and souls of all of those who govern us, and let us pray that we will put in right standing with our God.

Create in me a clean heart O Lord and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

Daniel 9 records Daniel’s powerful prayer for the nation of Israel. Pray this prayer substituting the United States for Israel. Confess our national sins of abortion, sexual sins, drugs, alcohol, gambling, apathy, and rebellion against God, etc.

  • “Alas, O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, we have sinned, and committed iniquity, acted wickedly and rebelled, even turning aside from your commandments and ordinances.”  Daniel 9:4-5
  • “Open shame belongs to us, O Lord, to our kings, our princes and our fathers, because we have sinned against You.” Daniel 9:8
  • “So now, O God, listen to the prayer of Your servant and to his supplications, and for Your sake, O Lord, let Your face shine on Your desolate sanctuary.”  Daniel 9: 17

Virginia Elections: Wednesday Prayer Point

By | Virginia | No Comments

Dear Fellow Virginians,

In 1776, the most influential man in the little town of Lexington was a parson by the name of Jonas Clark. On the night Paul Revere made his famous ride, Parson Clark was having dinner with John Hancock and Samuel Adams. These two great patriots asked Clark the question: If war came, would the men of Lexington fight? Rev. Clark replied that he had trained them for that very hour. The next day, the “shot heard ’round the world” was fired only a few yards from his parsonage.

[Our liberty] began in a church—with a parson not afraid to speak out on the great issues of freedom and tyranny. The resounding sermons preached by “the Black Regiment” (named because of the black robes the clergy wore at the time), of which Clark was a part, set the stage for the liberty of America.

The outcome of next week’s election could profoundly impact religious freedom in the Commonwealth, both in and outside our places of worship. Hostility toward pastors and Christians is on the rise, and freedom of conscience and expression are under assault. Because of this, it is critical that church leadership encourages its members to vote on November 5.

Prayer and Scripture focus for Wednesday, October 30:
Churches can make a tremendous difference in government and public policy by helping the members of their congregations be informed, responsible citizens. Pray that pastors will encourage their people to vote knowledgeably and seek the Lord’s wisdom for whom to vote.

“Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.” – Proverbs 3:15

Virginia Elections: Tuesday Prayer Point

By | Virginia | No Comments

Dear Fellow Virginians,

Few opportunities come to individuals to make an eternal impact with profound current significance.  Prayer is just such an opportunity.  In the life of America, beginning May 14, 1607, in Jamestown, Virginia, under a sail converted to an awning, Christians have turned to God to guide and strengthen them.  Even more today, most Americans depend on our God to shield and defend us.  This prayer guide is presented as a tool for individuals and groups to use as they ask Him for wisdom and courage to return America to the precepts of God on which it was founded through those whom we elect.  Our thanks to Harvest Prayer Ministries for this great prayer guide, How to Pray for an Election.

Prayer and Scripture focus for Tuesday, October 29:
Pray that Christians will turn out and vote knowledgeably. Pray that voters will research, consider wisely, and seek counsel on the candidates for whom they will vote.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5

Concerned Women for America Partners with Women’s Liberation Front to Stand Up for Women and Girls

By | Feminist / Women's Issues, News and Events, Press Releases, SCOTUS | No Comments

Washington, D.C. – The conservative public policy women’s organization, Concerned Women for America (CWA) is partnering with the self-proclaimed radical feminists’ organization, Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF) to Stand Up and Speak Out against injustice for women and girls. These two groups represent hundreds of thousands of women across the country who will be victimized if the Supreme Court redefines the word “sex” to include “gender identity” in R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes Inc. v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

“To arbitrarily change the word ‘sex’ to include gender identity is regressive, not progressive,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President of CWA. “It would greatly undermine the women’s movement and the women who dedicated their lives to see the advancements we enjoy today,” she continued. “It’ll be a rough day for freedom of speech and conscience if the Supreme Court rules that we can all be compelled to lie about sex,” added Natasha Chart, Board Chair of the Women’s Liberation Front.

Together, CWA and WoLF are hosting a rally on the steps of the Supreme Court to highlight speakers who will share story after story of how they are the true victims of the determined political activism over “gender identity.” Examples include women athletes who can no longer compete in their sports, women who have been assaulted in formerly safe places that excluded males, scientists who have been fired for presenting factual science publicly, and former transgender individuals who have now detransitioned. The rally will be held, Tuesday, October 8, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET at the Supreme Court of the United States located at 1 First Street NE, Washington, DC 20543.

CWA of Virginia Recommends These Two Events

By | Virginia | No Comments

There is a disturbing trend happening in many of the Northern Virginia school districts. Most recently, the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) school board has been making policy changes that expose our children and our neighbors’ children to sexually explicit materials and inappropriate and dangerous situations.

“Gender Identity” Policy Alert
In May 2015, the FCPS school board added “gender identity” to its nondiscrimination policy (Policy 1450) which opened the door for students to use restrooms and locker rooms of the sex for which they identify rather than their biological sex. FCPS allows principals and administrators to make decisions about accommodating transgender students’ bathroom and locker room usage on a case-by-case basis. Students are given no advance notice if a student of a different biological sex will be using the same facilities that they use.

Sexually Explicit Curriculum Alert
Parents should also be aware of troubling content in Family Life Education (FLE), Fairfax County’s sex ed curriculum. In ninth grade, students are taught that “gender assigned at birth” may be different than one’s biological sex. One eighth grade lesson mentions anal sex four times. A fifth grade lesson refers to needle sharing and sexually transmitted diseases. Parents can opt their students out of FLE. However, they are often unaware of the content, trusting that their school system is teaching age-appropriate content to their children.

Even if parents do opt their students out of Family Life Education, their students may still be exposed to sexually graphic material. Assigned high school English literature sometimes includes passages containing bestiality, incest, pedophilia, and gang rape. Book titles may be listed in a syllabus, but teachers are not required to inform parents when students will be reading books with this inappropriate content.

Action Items:

  • Contact your school to find out how to opt your student(s) out of FLB.
  • Ask your school the process for checking out copies of student-assigned textbooks so you can review the content.
  • Consider attending one or both of the CWA of Virginia recommended events listed below. These events will help educate parents and communities about what is happening in our public schools, specifically in Fairfax County.
  • Vote your values and vote in the November 5 school board elections.

Washington, D.C. – For 40 years, Concerned Women for America (CWA), the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization, has promoted Biblical values, constitutional principles and pro-women policies across America and around the world. As a part of CWA’s 40th year anniversary celebration, CWA’s founder Dr. Beverly LaHaye, CEO and President Penny Nance, and CWA’s Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Shea Garrison welcomed Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo, who delivered a keynote address to CWA and its supporters during a luncheon at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.

“We are so pleased to have Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his wife Susan with us today,” Penny Nance said. “CWA’s involvement in the International arena is increasingly significant and has intensified with our staff addition of Dr. Shea Garrison. Secretary Pompeo has approached his job in a way that demonstrates a shared vision with CWA and our founder, Mrs. Beverly LaHaye, to expand pro-woman and pro-liberty policies at home and Internationally.”

In his remarks, Secretary Pompeo discussed religious liberty as the first American freedom enshrined in the U.S. Constitution as an unalienable right for all people. He also discussed his experiences leading the U.S. Department of State to fight for that freedom as a U.S. foreign policy priority for millions of people around the world, including through the Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom and the Commission on Unalienable Rights.

“Concerned Women for America’s work in the International arena is not new. With God’s guidance and direction, we made our first foray 23 years ago at the U.N. World Conference for Women in Beijing,” said Mrs. Beverly LaHaye. “Impacting international women for Christ’s work has always been a vision for CWA, and I am pleased and gratified at  how much progress CWA has made internationally under Penny’s leadership along with the expertise of Dr. Shea Garrison.”

CWA’s work internationally has focused on family and life, empowering women, and advocating for religious freedom around the world. To see more about CWA’s international department and its work, click here to see a video.

Washington, D.C. – Concerned Women for America (CWA), the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization, celebrated and honored 40 years promoting Biblical principles and pro-women policies today at the Trump International Hotel. The Honorable Mike Pence, Vice President of the United States and his wife, Karen, and the Honorable Mike Huckabee, former Governor of Arkansas attended and addressed the attendees at the Anniversary Gala. President Trump sent taped remarks to view during the festivities.

Founded by Dr. Beverly LaHaye in 1979, CWA has been instrumental in advocating for their seven core issues: Sanctity of Life, Defense of Family, Education, Religious Liberty, National Sovereignty, Sexual Exploitation, and Support for Israel.

“This event is so special for me and for Concerned Women for America,” Mrs. Beverly LaHaye said. “For CWA to continue to draw notable honored guests like our Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence, and his lovely wife, Karen, and Governor Mike Huckabee – is an indication of God’s continued favor over Concerned Women for America these last forty years. I am grateful for that favor and blessing; it has truly been the honor of my lifetime to lead CWA.”

The staff and grass roots volunteers of CWA are known on Capitol Hill and at state legislatures across the nation for their tenacity when it comes to protecting women, our children, and America’s future. They are never afraid to speak out, stand up, and make a national impact. Among recent notable accomplishments:

  • Helping to re-shape the U.S. Supreme Court and helping to set a new record of constitutionalist judges in circuit courts around the country,
  • Strengthening legislation to prioritize rape kit testing to bring justice to women victims of sexual assault,
  • Forming a powerful women’s coalition to oppose gender identity laws that overturn women’s rights to privacy, safety, and Title IX protections in female sports,
  • Securing promise for presidential veto of any legislation that would compromise protections for life,
  • Advancing defunding of abortion clinics with thousands of public comments supporting new Title X regulations, and
  • Defending family and life, empowering women, and advocating for religious freedom around the world.

“In the last 40 years CWA has journeyed from a small but passionate group of activist women to a mighty army of amazing, accomplished women with enormous influence on our culture and government. We are now a formidable Washington institution. Today, we celebrate our grassroots leaders who are the power behind our organization and reason for our success. With the retirement of Mrs. Beverly LaHaye, who has served God faithfully, we’re marking the passing of the baton on the firm foundation from which she built this organization,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President. “As we move into the dawn of a new era here at CWA, we welcome Linda Murphy as Chairman of the Board and look forward with enthusiasm and passion to the future.”

Throughout the evening, notable guests including senators and former officials and friends honored the accomplishments and work of CWA. For an overview of the heart of Concerned Women for America, see the below photos and watch the linked video.

Join Our Encourage-A-Legislator Program – It’s Easy!

By | Virginia | No Comments

A Call to Prayer

I Timothy 2:1-2 instructs us to pray for our leaders. CWA of Virginia’s Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL) program offers our members and friends the vehicle to do this in an easy and meaningful way. It ensures consistent prayer for each legislator, and it encourages and builds bridges with the conservative legislators as well as those who do not normally agree with us.

As prayers are offered on behalf of the legislators, and they receive your postcards, hearts are changed and encouraged.

Whether a legislator is a believer, non-believer, conservative, liberal, Democrat, Republican, independent or other, they are in desperate need of prayer. This next legislative session, CWA of Virginia plans to deliver those prayers.

The Program

The goal of the EAL program is to encourage each member of the State House and Senate, as well as state-wide office holders, by praying for them on a  regular basis and sending them a  postcard every week throughout the legislative session, beginning the second week of January (six-week session in odd years and eight-week session in even years.) Our goal is to cover all those “in authority” in Virginia, 100 House members, 40 Senate members, and three statewide officeholders.

The EAL program is never used to lobby and, therefore, is never confrontational. It is simply a great way to lift up those in authority and encourage them in their responsibilities. Many good relationships have started through the EAL program.

We provide the name and address of the assigned legislator(s) and the postcards, and you commit to praying for your assigned legislator(s) every Monday morning the Virginia General Assembly is in session and then mail an EAL postcard on that day.

Answer the Call

Sign up today to be an encourager—it couldn’t be easier! Sign up by simply giving Janet Stasulli, CWA of Virginia’s Encourage-A-Legislator Coordinator, a call at (434) 525-6705 or email her at [email protected] and provide her with your name and address Be sure to specify how many legislators you would like to encourage. She will be happy to enlist you as an encourager and send you a packet of postcards and instructions.

Consider making this a family project by involving your children.

Please encourage your friends and family to sign up as well.

We look forward to hearing from you!

 First Things First

“As the State Director for CWA of Virginia, I understand that prayer must be our number one priority. We must be willing to spend time on our knees before running out the door. So often we can get caught up in the many issues that come before the state legislature. This is why CWA of Virginia’s Encourage-A-Legislator program must stay a priority. Please join us as we keep first things first!”

Toni DeLancey

State Director

“I am honored to oversee this program once again. Since its inception in Virginia in 2009, we have received wonderful feedback from both legislators and encouragers alike. Now more than ever, our leaders need our prayers and encouragement.  I hope you will join us.”

Concerned Women for America of Virginia Responds to Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger’s Co-sponsoring and Voting Favorably for the Deceptively Named “Equality Act.”

Concerned Women for America of Virginia Responds to
Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger’s Co-sponsoring and Voting
Favorably for the Deceptively Named “Equality Act.”

Her Vote Will Harm the Women of Virginia.

Richmond, VA – On behalf our members who reside in Rep. Abigail Spanberger’s (D-District 7) congressional district, Concerned Women for America of Virginia wants Rep. Spanberger to know that she has been misled and fooled by H.R. 5, the deceptively-named “Equality Act.” The Equality Act makes an unverifiable and unscientific attempt to address discrimination by elevating protections for select groups on the basis of a new definition of sex. H.R. 5 redefines the term sex to include “sexual orientation and gender identity” in civil rights law, elevating “gender identity” over the protected class of sex as male and female.

As absurd as it sounds, this bill Rep. Spanberger supports strips women from any protection from men who would identify as women in bathrooms, locker rooms, women’s shelters, sports competition, and more.

The Equality Act would give any person the right to claim “gender identity” as the opposite sex at any time. This legislation is a direct threat against every woman in America and in our great state of Virginia. Its effects are nothing less than extreme, far-reaching, and uncontainable.

Most importantly, Americans do not need the Equality Act to ensure equal rights. All people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, already receive equal protection of the laws under the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Equality Act will be used, as other gender identity policies have, to impede upon the rights, privacy, and safety of women and girls.

Supporters like Rep. Spanberger have no way of defending the threats the Equality Act have against women even though basic common sense makes it obvious to most people. It’s a shame Rep. Spanberger blindly jumped on the bandwagon.

Concerned Women for America of Virginia rejects this misguided legislation with far-reaching implications that would be imposed on the American people, especially women.

Nance Applauds the Trump Administration for Curtailing Human Fetal Tissue Research

By | News and Events, Press Releases | No Comments

Washington, D.C. — Following the Trump administration’s decision to expire funding for human fetal tissue research for the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Concerned Women for America’s President and CEO Penny Nance issued the following statement:

“We thank President Trump and applaud the Administration’s firm decision to curtail this fruitless research, which has promoted the destruction of innocent human life. This is long overdue. Human fetal tissue research has been conducted for nearly a century and has failed to produce any significant scientific gains. The U.S. government should be funding potentially promising research, not unethical research based on 100-year-old science, and we encourage the Administration to continue to accelerate ethical alternatives.”

The “Equality Act” is a Danger to American Women

By | Feminist / Women's Issues, News and Events, Religious Liberty, Sexual Exploitation | No Comments

CWA’s Senior Director of Government Relations Doreen Denny‘s opinion piece was recently featured in “Human Events.”

“Where are the voices of the Women’s March fighting for women’s rights and #MeToo champions fighting against sexual exploitation and harassment? Conservative women and radical feminists are calling on Congress to protect women’s safety and dignity from the dangers of the deceptively-named “Equality Act” slated to be voted on this week.” Doreen Denny, Senior Director of Government Relations, Concerned Women for America.
