Supreme Court Stays Ruling Forcing Schools to Allow Transgender Students to Use the Bathroom of Their Choice

By | Defense of Family, Education, Legal, News and Events, Press Releases, Virginia, Washington | No Comments

CWALAC_MediaStatementWashington, D.C. – The Supreme Court has put on hold a Fourth Circuit Court ruling requiring a Virginia school district to accommodate a transgender high school student’s request to use the boys’ bathroom. The justices split 5-3 on the issue to temporarily lift the obligation of the Gloucester County school system to allow one of their students to use the bathroom of her choice in accordance with Obama Administration guidance. CWA CEO and President Penny Nance has this to say:

“We commend the Supreme Court for voting to stay this case and encourage them to do the right thing when the time comes to rule on the merits.

“This case is a result of yet another Obama Administration overreach. To require schools to allow students into any bathroom of their choice is an overstep on legal boundaries by redefining the scope and reach of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and slapping the heavy hand of government on local schools.

“This would also impact the use of showers, locker rooms, school travel and more. This unwise and rash policy would favor the desires of a small group over young women with religious, cultural, and modesty concerns. The Court should not shove this unwise policy on the states.

“Schools all over this nation have rightly worked on a case-by-case basis to accommodate kids struggling with gender dysphoria. They should not be forced by big government to violate the privacy of other students and perhaps even create trauma for the very kids Obama pretends to protect. Local school districts, with the input of parents and health professionals, should be setting school policy on such a sensitive and controversial issue, not Washington.

“Finally, the left always uses children to accomplish its goals of social reengineering. The adults closest to these children should decide what’s best for all the children in the school. Safety and kindness should be the guiding principles, not threats from the bullies in Washington. We hope the Supreme Court agrees.”

Thank You, Janet Robey, for Your Outstanding Service to CWA Through the Years

By | Virginia | No Comments

Dear CWA of Virginia Friends,

For eight years, Janet Robey has been the State Director for Concerned Women for America of Virginia. We remember back in 2007 when we asked Janet to step into the position of State Director. She diligently prayed about it and eventually accepted with the understanding that she would commit to taking the position for only one year. We agreed, knowing full well the Lord was at work and that she would be with us much longer. Well, eight years later, the one year has concluded, and Janet is stepping down from the position of State Director. Though saddened, we are honored that she graced us with her tremendous work for each of those years. As of December 31, Janet will be stepping down from the position of State Director, yet will be staying with us as a local Prayer/Action Chapter.

Here is what she said on the matter:

“It is with a heavy heart that I need to share that as of December 31, 2015, I am stepping down as Virginia’s State Director for Concerned Women for America (CWA).

“The life experience, education and opportunities that CWA has provided for me over the past eight years are invaluable, and I would recommend this organization to anyone who wishes to be educated and engaged in current issues.

“As I age (I hate to admit that), I have found it is increasingly more difficult to juggle CWA, my full time job and family responsibilities. I will continue to be active with CWA including facilitating a Prayer/Action Chapter (I absolutely love my ladies and the prayer warriors that they are). This conservative activist is not stepping down from the fight, just the position.

“I look forward to our continued relationship as we battle on until HE comes. After December 31, you will be able to reach me at janetrobey55@gmail.com, and my phone number stays the same 434-401-8852.”

Through the years Janet has made countless trips to Richmond to lobby legislators on CWA’s core issues. Through the years, she has taken the time to encourage the state legislators with cookies, flowers and, when the flu was going around, hand sanitizer with a tag that said, “Stay Well. Virginia families are counting on you! Psalm 24:3-5”. She has attended multiple demonstrations in opposition to abortion, in support of marriage and many others. She has spoken in front of a myriad of groups on an array of topics and attended meetings all around the state representing CWA. Through e-alerts, Janet encouraged prayer and action on behalf of Lisa Miller as she held her ground to protect her daughter from going into the custody of a woman living in a lesbian relationship. She attended many of Lisa’s court hearings as well. Thank God with us for blessing CWA with such a godly representative.

Every month we spotlight a director on CWA national’s homepage. In October we featured Janet. Please take a moment to read what she wrote for us.

We will miss Janet tremendously, but look forward to her continued leadership with her Chapter and her involvement with CWA of Virginia. Know that we are working on a replacement. After December 31, you can contact us in the Field Department for any help you need.

Sincerely,

State Leader Spotlight: Janet Robey

What is Your Policy Passion?
Marriage

What’s your CWA story?

VA BOH Media pic“In 2005, I began to sense God was redirecting my ministry focus after being in children’s ministry for five years.  In the fall of that year, I attended an E-Women conference, where I stumbled on a Concerned Women for America booth.  I was familiar with this organization, so I spoke to the ladies and, shortly afterwards, started attending a Prayer/Action Chapter meeting.  While attending these monthly meetings, I discovered how much I had forgotten about our governmental process.  These passionate and caring ladies began my journey to become educated on the process of federal and state government.  In the very beginning, I could not even tell you who my state representatives were.

In those early days, I was a Home Team Captain with CWA and a Church Liaison with The Family Foundation.  In those positions, I recruited individuals to be on my Home Team.  I was to disperse information via e-mail to encourage my team to take action (educating, praying, and acting on issues of importance). With the Family Foundation, I took training on how to encourage the church to be involved in passing the Marriage Amendment.  So the Marriage Amendment is what propelled me into action.

I attended my first CWA National Leadership Conference in September 2006.  Looking back to that conference, I can see how God was preparing me.

After the Marriage Amendment was passed, my husband and I attended a victory celebration.  It was to be a prophetic night.  We were talking to the grassroots director of Family Foundation and discussing the fact that the Virginia director had stepped down to run for office.  Steve said to me, “You could do that!” and I promptly said, “Oh no, I’m too new.” A few minutes later as we walked away, my husband turned to me and said, “They are going to ask you to do that.”

In June 2007, I was approached by a long-time CWA member and asked to be interim State Director.  The very next Sunday (June 17), a dear lady at church handed me a note and said she was impressed to give this to me.  She had no idea what was swirling around in my head.  Romans 8:28. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”  She said “Respond to His leading and trust; He will work it out.”

I was in a Beth Moore study “Seeking Him,” and that particular week was on grace.  I’ll share some quotes from that week God used to lead me in the decision process.  “Grace is that which God gives us to meet His requirements and to face the difficulties of life.”  “Do I take God’s grace for granted or have I lost the sense of wonder of what God has done for me?” (Or can do for me?) “God’s grace is the dynamic quality of His life within us that gives us both the desire and the power to obey God.  God is fully aware that we are incapable of Godly living in spite of our best intentions or efforts.  His grace is His supernatural supply for all we lack.  He promises to equip and empower us to do whatever He requires of us.”  Philippians 2:13 says it is God who works in you to will and to do for His good pleasure.

I had noted in the book that week, “I feel totally inadequate to do a task that God has called me to do.”

I was dumbfounded really.  So for the two weeks, I struggled; I reasoned; I questioned.  One of my main concerns was my lack of ability, education, and knowledge in this arena.

A couple weeks later, our church had a special guest — a trumpeter.  It was as if God ordained this message just for me.

I Corinthians 14:7-8 “… how will anyone know what tune is being played unless there is a distinction in the notes, Again if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle?”

God was calling me to sound a clear call through the vehicle of CWA.  So I answered the call.  Has it been easy? No!  Has it been convenient? No!  Has it required me to move out of my comfort zone? Absolutely! Would I change my answer to the call — most days NO!

I leave you with two verses. May they challenge you to say “Yes” to God and “No” to your doubts.

2 Corinthians 8:12 — “For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.”  God does not call the equipped, He equips the called.

Acts 4:13 — “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”

Call to Action

If you feel that you are being called to serve, make today the day that you say “yes.”  Just like Janet, God will use YOU to impact America! For more information on how to lead or join a CWA State Chapter or Prayer and Action Chapter, attend events and rallies, sign petitions, and much more, visit www.ConcernedWomen.org.

Join Us In Prayer For Victory In Virginia In Preparation of November 3

By | Virginia | No Comments

On Tuesday, November 3, Virginians will cast a very important vote in our commonwealth’s history. The candidates couldn’t be more different in their positions on crucial moral issues. As the battle escalates over Obamacare, defunding and prosecuting Planned Parenthood and the threats of ISIS increase against our people through the entrance of Muslim “refugees”, we need strong Officials in our House of Delegates and State Senate to defend us. We need courageous leaders to stand up to the war against our Constitution. We need God’s divine intervention. Our help must come from God.

Please commit to pray at least once daily until all ballots have been counted. Please add anything else the Lord may lay on your heart.

Praise:
“For great is your love, higher than the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, let your glory be over all the earth. With God we will gain the victory…” Psalm 108:4, 5, 13

“The Lord foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of His heart through all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He chose for his inheritance.” Psalm 33:10-12

Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for Your sovereign control over the destiny of Virginia.

Confession:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God & renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
Dear Heavenly Father, Please forgive us for ignoring the dishonesty that has crept into our media and culture. Forgive us for our apathy about standing for what is right and allowing the politically correct people to stifle our free speech. Forgive our Commonwealth for the slaughter of innocent babies in the name of “choice”.

Thanks:
“O magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt His name together.” Psalm 34:3

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for abundantly blessing America and Virginia with freedom and prosperity.
Thank you for protecting us from tyrants and terror. Thank you for free elections. (Please add anything else for which you are thankful.)

Requests:
“For Thou LORD wilt bless the righteous with favor will you surround him.” Psalm 5:12

Dear Heavenly Father,
Please shine Your favor on Your candidates. Help voters to see the truth. Give all Christ-honoring candidates Your victory. Amen.

Monday, November 2
When the ancient Israelites entered the Promised Land, their first obstacle was the great walled city of Jericho. As Joshua and the men prepared to conquer the city, God gave them a clear battle strategy. They were to walk around the great city once a day for six days without speaking one word. On the final day, they silently circled the city seven times. What went through the minds of these untrained warriors as they only heard the tramping feet of their fellow countrymen? Did they hear taunts from above as Jericho citizens jeered? They saw the great wall up close. Did they tremble in fear at the overwhelming size of this fortress city? Did they feel outnumbered and unprepared? How many realized that their only hope for victory would be from God? During the silent trek, how many called out to God in prayer? How many asked Him to do the impossible?

Today, we need God to do the impossible for us. We too have the opportunity to call out to Him and ask Him to give us a fair election. May He crumble our opponents like He crumbled the walls of Jericho!

Here’s a simple strategy: on the evening of November 2 (preferably before dark) go to your local polling precinct. Take a few like-minded friends and march around the building or grounds. Pray out loud or silently asking God to make sure no fraud will succeed in the precinct the next day. Pray for only a fair vote to come from the precinct. Below are a few requests in addition to the Confession and Praise from the previous page. Please feel free to add whatever God lays on your heart. (If you can’t make it to your polling place the night before, please pray about these candidates at a convenient time as often as you can.)

Requests:
Dear Heavenly Father, We lift up this polling place. We pray there will be no tampering with machines, ballots or any confusion causing voters to mis-vote. We pray any attempts at fraud would fail and/or be caught. We ask that all ballots cast would be fair ballots.

Help voters not to be deceived but to see the whole truth.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

Tuesday, November 3
Be sure to vote! Pray that God’s men and women will be elected.

CWA of Virginia Launches “Students, Know Your Rights” Project to Inform Students of Their Religious Liberties

By | Virginia | No Comments

VA 2 picWe are excited to report that just days into launching a brand new project, “Students: Know Your Rights,” churches, pastors and educators are requesting our bookmarks faster than we can print and get them out the door.

The project is simple:  Get into the hands of high schoolers a bookmark that outlines their religious liberties.  It is essential that our students are aware of their right to wear and display religious jewelry, have student lead prayer, read their Bible during free time, and more.

Will you join us as we empower our Virginia youth to exercise their religious rights in the public school system?  There are two ways you can help: 1.) Contribute towards the “Students: Know Your Rights” project.  These bookmarks are not free to produce and distribute yet for only 12 cents you can put a bookmark into a student’s hand. 2.) Ask your pastor and/or youth leader if they would like for us to send them some.

For every $12 contributed we can send a youth pastor or an educator 100 bookmarks for free.  To give a tax deductible contribution simply go to our website and click the “DONATE TO YOUR STATE” button below my picture on the left.  Be sure to put “Bookmarks” in the comment section.  Or, send a check to the address below.

If the pastor or youth leader of your church would like some bookmarks, please have them contact me with the number they would like.

The requests are pouring in!  Just yesterday a church from Richmond requested 500! Will you help?

For the youth of Virginia!

Join Us in Building the Next Generation in Virginia Through the Work of Young Women for America

By | Virginia | No Comments

The Problem: Have you ever been discouraged when reading about the liberal mindset being taught in colleges today?  Concerned about how this next generation is being indoctrinated against the Biblical world view in an ever increasing manner by professors that openly oppose what we hold near and dear?  Felt helpless?

The Answer: We at CWA of Virginia and CWA national have committed in 2016 to do our part in combating this anti-Biblical teachings through a project called Young Women for America (YWA).  YWA is a student-oriented initiative that is geared toward high school and college campuses to bring active groups of young like-minded women together to promote conservative values to their schools and the nation.

The good news is that there are young women out there within the 171 Virginia colleges that are Christian, conservative and passionate about the issues you and I care about.  They just need our support and a platform to spread the word and make a difference on their campuses, the state and nation.  They need to be encouraged, equipped and trained.

The Need: Christian college women.  We have everything needed to serve these young ladies.  CWA national has hired staff, created curriculum for them to use to lead their chapters and accumulated funds to enable them to do what needs to be done to have a significant impact.  All we need now is young women to answer the call.  This is where you come in.

The Action: Can you help us identify these young women?  They might be your daughter, granddaughter, niece or part of your church family or friends of young ladies you know.  Please forward them this e-alert and be sure they visit the YWA website and read through this YWA brochure.  And, encourage, inspire and urge them to make a difference in their generation through this exciting opportunity in YWA.

The Outcome: The build-up of conservative YWA chapters across Virginia will finally provide a Kingdom response to the liberal studies and programs that have been built by the left for 20 years.  We will equip young women across the state to make a difference on their college campuses and be a greater impact in their communities, state and national after they graduate.

Leave a legacy; inspire the next generation to lead a YWA chapter.

Contact us today with any questions and/or ideas on ways we can reach these Christian college women with YWA information.

Thank you in advance for your diligence in this matter.

Ask him to investigate Planned Parenthood facilities within Virginia immediately due to recent developments and the over 400 health violations discovered in abortion clinics in Virginia, some of which are in Planned Parenthood facilities.  In addition ask him to return funds his PAC received from Planned Parenthood.  He continues to receive pressure; please be sure to do your part.

Please pray:  Ask the Lord to give those who end up investigating on a national level the wisdom to discover the truth and the courage to speak it. Pray the pressure on Gov. McAuliffe intensifies and he does the right thing.

Enough is enough!

Open Letter to 140 Virginia Legislators on the Issue of Religious Freedom and The First Amendment Defense Act

By | Virginia | No Comments

Do you wonder what kind of America your children and grandchildren will know? I see this phrase on social media from time to time, “You will be made to care.” Are we there yet?

Americans who once settled on untilled soil, fought off adversaries, and ate only the food they harvested are now claiming they are incapable of paying for their own birth control. This year, we will add more than a trillion dollars to our debt and murder nearly four million unborn babies. And next year, and the year after. But still, America is asleep.

Perhaps the most frightening cultural decline is the recent Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage. Obergefell v Hodges has codified religious intolerance. In the decision, the Justices said we will be able to advocate and teach our beliefs, but the black-robed lawyers made no reference to our First Amendment Right to the “free exercise of religion.”

I am asking that you do your part to encourage our U.S. Congress to pass The First Amendment Defense Act. We must protect the religious freedom of those who will continue to regard marriage as only the union between one man and one woman.

I am asking for your help to safeguard our liberties by rejecting any law that would infringe on religious liberties, often masquerading as non-discrimination ordinances on the state level. For examples of how these ordinances on the state and local level play out, check out the baker, photographer, florist and event planner.

To paraphrase Martin Niemoeller in today’s culture: “First they came for the wedding photographer, but I did not speak out because I did not photograph weddings. Then they came for the baker, but I did not speak out because I was not a baker. Then they came for the florist, but I said nothing because I was not a florist. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Sincerely,

CWA of Virginia SPEAKS OUT Against the Selling of Baby Body Parts

By | Virginia | No Comments

It is a federal felony to traffic human body parts! This week a shocking video from an undercover investigation shows Dr. Deborah Nucatola describing how selling the body parts of aborted children is part of the Planned Parenthood business plan! View disturbing video here.

Penny Nance, Concerned Women for America CEO and President, responds:

“Thirty to one hundred dollars; that’s the price Planned Parenthood appears to be profiting per dead baby. The recent video of Planned Parenthood’s senior director of Medical Services is just the latest in a laundry list of scandals, including aiding and abetting sex traffickers, giving sexual bondage instructions to children, cheating the government, sex-selection abortions, blatant racism, and the failure to report the molestation and rape of minors.

“There appears to be no depths to which this organization won’t stoop for money. When will the federal government wake up and follow the lead of the ten courageous governors who have cut funding to Planned Parenthood?

It’s time for Congress to say ‘Enough!’ If Planned Parenthood provides any worthy services, then they should have no problem raising funds like the thousands of other charities around this nation. Wake up America!”

Silence is not an option! Take action and pray on behalf of unborn babies!

Take Action: Contact Sen. Mark Warner (D-Virginia) 202-224-2023/e-mail/twitter, Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) 202-224-4024/e-mail/twitter, Rep. Rob Wittman (R-1st District Virginia) 202-225-4261/e-mail/twitter, Rep. Scott Rigell (R-2nd  District Virginia) 202-225-4215/e-mail/twitter, Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11th District Virginia) 202-225-1492/e-mail/twitter. Ask for a congressional investigation and an immediate defunding of Planned Parenthood.

Pray: 2 Timothy says, “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” We are reminded that it isn’t easy. 2 Corinthians 4:6-9 “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.” We should not fear man. Man cannot take our soul. We need to take heart during these times. Have courage. Put on the full armor of God and speak boldly as we speak. And having done all stand.

Dear Heavenly Father, the God of all creation, forgive us our trespasses. We will no longer be silent. Boldly we speak the truth in love, knowing that Jesus is the victory. Break the hearts of our leaders for what breaks Yours. Destroy the walls of deception and shine the light on the evilness of abortion. As we serve You our Risen Savior, we call on the surpassing power that is from You, not us.

Silence is not an option.

Action Alert: Fairfax County School Board to Hold Final Vote to Add Gender Identity as a “Special Protected Class”

By | Virginia | No Comments

Dear Friend,

Earlier this month, despite overwhelming opposition, the Fairfax County School Board (FCSB) voted to add gender identity as a “special protected class” to their non-discrimination policy.

This brazen action happened even though 500 parents came to the board meeting to oppose this effort and many more called and e-mailed the Board with their concerns.

While we were still fuming over the FCSB’s action, we learned that this policy change was not FCSB’s only objective. The goal of FCSB is to actually incorporate the new “gender identity” curriculum into the Family Life Education (FLE) lessons, making it harder for parents to shield their kids.

Some FLE lessons are also being moved out of the family life education portion of the curriculum and placed into the emotional and social health section, which will prevent parents from opting their children out of the instruction.

Students as young as kindergarten will learn about different family structures, which could include “same-sex marriage and child rearing,” and parents will not be able to do one thing about it.

In sixth grade, students will be introduced to school and community healthcare services and how to access them. This could mean your child will learn about Planned Parenthood, America’s largest contraception and abortion provider, and parental consent may not be needed.

FCSB is moving quickly to adopt this agenda unless you act now to stop them! They want your children to be taught that “sexuality is fluid and developed throughout a lifetime.”

Act Now:

  1. Submit comments on the Family Life Education curriculum revisions to FLEcomments@fcps.edu by June 19. Also, please cc Shari Rendall at srendall@cwfa.org so that we can track the number of comments submitted. You can use the sample comment or create your own.
  2. Attend the FCSB meeting on June 25, where the Board will hold a final vote on the Family Life Education Curriculum Advisory Committee’s proposed changes. The meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. at Luther Jackson Middle School, located at 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
  3. Once you have taken action, please send this alert to 2-3 additional people.

Re: Comments on the Family Life Education Curriculum Revisions

Dear Members of the Fairfax Country Public School Board,

I am writing today to urge you to oppose the Family Life Education Curriculum Revisions that will be considered on June 25. Public schools should not be teaching our children a curriculum based on ideology but rather one based on facts and science.

As one of the nation’s largest public school systems, Fairfax County should not be indoctrinating our students as young as twelve or thirteen with a radical gender ideology. These new teachings will only create more confusion for students by telling them it’s permissible to be both genders, no gender, or whatever gender they want.

Further, FCSB should oppose efforts to move topics from family life education curriculum into the health curriculum because parents cannot opt out and shield their kids from this brainwashing. FCPS should make it easier for parents to take their children out of classes with objectionable content by providing opt-out forms in the orientation packets at the beginning of the school year. Parents deserve the final say on what their children learn.

Sincerely,

Reflections on the National Day of Prayer

On May 7, 2015, thousands of “official” events occurred around our great nation, and I am sure many “unofficial” events took place as well. I had the privilege to attend one of each. This year’s theme was Lord, hear our cry. I Kings 8:28 “Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day”.

VA NDP aThe day started out with my husband and me attending an event at the Goode Rescue Squad building in Goode, Virginia. This event has been sponsored by the Goode Rescue Women’s Auxiliary Club for the past five years. Thanks go out to Cheryl and Brenda for doing a great job not just for a well-organized event but an inspiring one as well. Special music was provided by Gary Witt, and David Stokes made a special presentation to a WWII veteran. Area pastors prayed over our government, military, education, business, media, churches and families. The keynote speaker was David Harker, a Vietnam veteran who was a POW for over five years. He was captured on January 8, 1968, and was not released until March 5, 1973. His faith in God and other POW’s were instrumental in him surviving. “God sent me the assurance in the face of the enemy on the battlefield” when Philippians 1:21 came to his mind, “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain”. Unknown to him at the time his dad, a committed believer, was praying Psalm 91 over David. David assures us that God listens, hears and will answer.

VA NDP b

My next stop was less advertised with only a couple dozen in attendance but none the less inspiring. These individuals are the ones you want on your prayer team! As the event began with music, a little girl perhaps four or five years old danced to the front, and once again I was reminded of Matthew 18:3 “And he said: Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven”. This little girl appeared to be looking up and mimicking an adult nearby. However, as I watched her lift her hands, close her eyes and whisper a prayer, this was not just mimicking this was true worship! Oh, that we adults would learn that our daddy wants to hear from us in this kind of worship.

The Bitter Irony of the Day of Silence

By | Defense of Family, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, News and Events, North Carolina, Religious Liberty, South Dakota, Virginia, Wisconsin | No Comments

What if I told you that pro-lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) activists are working tirelessly to infiltrate schools and influence children across the country? What if I said activists were taunting and bullying kids in public school and shaming them regarding their religious beliefs that favor traditional marriage? Read More

CWA of Virginia Silences the Day of Silence

By | Virginia | No Comments

The Day of Silence, organized and promoted by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), takes place this year on Friday, April 17. The Day of Silence is the king of all the numerous homosexuality-affirming activities that take place in public schools. It started in one university and then, like a cancer, metastasized to thousands of high schools and then into middle schools. Before long it will take place in elementary schools. Leftists know that it’s easier to indoctrinate 16-year-olds than 36-year-olds and easier still to indoctrinate 6-year-olds.

Silence the Day of Silence by participating in the ‘Day of Silence’ Walk Out.

Ask your pastor to write a letter to the local schools. Click here for a sample letter.

If you have school-age children, contact your administration as soon as possible.

  1. Ask this specific question: Will you be permitting students to refuse to speak in class on the Day of Silence? If the administration either answers “Yes” or dodges the question, please keep your child or children out of school on the Day of Silence. Every absence costs districts money, and money talks.
  2. Also, politely insist that an e-mail be sent to every family informing them that the Day of Silence will be taking place in classes on April 17, that some students will be refusing to speak during instructional time, that it is organized by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, and identifying specifically who is sponsoring it in your school. Parents have a right to know.

GLSEN promotes the Day of Silence as an “anti-bullying” effort. If it were centrally or solely about eradicating bullying, everyone — liberals and conservatives alike — would support it. But it’s not.

The Day of Silence exploits government schools, captive audiences, and anti-bullying sentiment to advance the left’s social, moral, and political beliefs and goals. GLSEN seeks to advance the belief that all public expressions of moral disapproval of homosexual activity are bullying.

GLSEN urges students to refuse to speak all day, including during academic classes, which is disruptive to instructional time. Administrators permit students to refuse to speak in class, and teachers feel compelled to create lesson plans to accommodate student refusal to speak. Teachers feel that if they don’t accommodate student refusal to speak, they will be seen as supporting the bullying of self-identified homosexual students.

The little unspoken secret is that many teachers on both sides of the political aisle hate the Day of Silence because of the distraction and disruption it creates. Unfortunately, they’re afraid to say that to their administrations because GLSEN and its ideological acolytes proclaim that opposition to the Day of Silence necessarily means endorsement of bullying. The truth is one can both oppose bullying and oppose the Day of Silence.

The homosexuality-affirming legal organizations Lambda Legal and the ACLU have both stated that students have no legal right to refuse to speak in class, so school administrations have every right to require students to participate verbally in class. And teachers have every right to require students to answer questions, give oral presentations or speeches, or participate in debates or discussions.

CWA of Virginia has endorsed the ‘Day of Silence’ Walk Out.

A coalition of pro-family organizations is once again urging parents to keep their children home from school on the Day of Silence if their school administrations will be allowing students to politicize instructional time by refusing to speak. This is the only organized national effort to oppose any pro-homosexual activity or event in public schools.

Often times parents of freshmen learn for the first time that the Day of Silence is taking place in their school when they hear about the ‘Day of Silence’ Walk Out. Even parents of sophomores, juniors, and seniors are uninformed. This lack of awareness happens because school administrations do not notify parents about The Day of Silence.

The absence of conservative influence within the culture on issues related to homosexuality is to some extent the fault of conservatives. Ignorance, fear, and an astounding lack of perseverance on the parts of conservatives have turned our cultural institutions — including public education — into the playground of “progressives.” Our passivity has enabled homosexual activists and their ideological allies to become social, political, and pedagogical bullies. Evidence of that is everywhere, including in schools on GLSEN’s annual April school event, the Day of Silence.

We must match — and exceed — the boldness and perseverance of the left if we hope to stop the relentless appropriation of public education for the promotion of homosexuality.

Stop the bullying! Join the ‘Day of Silence’ Walk Out.

Pass this e-mail on to like-minded friends, family, your pastor, and acquaintances.

Please pray and ask the Lord to silence the voice of those that promote unhealthy lifestyles – physically, emotionally and most importantly, spiritually.

Stop the bullying!

Yorktown Prayer/Action Chapter Hosts Event: THE BIBLE & Homosexuality

By | Virginia | No Comments

LWallMeetingOn Sunday afternoon, March 8, 2015, Concerned Women for America of Virginia (CWA-VA) held a “Coffee and Conversations” event in Yorktown, Virginia. Over thirty attended with a number of them being “concerned men.” Prior to speaker Linda Wall giving her testimony of deliverance from homosexuality, State Director Janet Robey gave a wonderful briefing on CWA. She covered CWA’s birth, the seven core issues and an overview of the 2015 General Assembly Session.

The crowd heard about the recent projects of CWA-VA:

Department of Health Board meeting. On December 4, 2014, Dr. Marissa Levine, Commissioner, held a public hearing in an attempt to roll back Virginia’s abortion clinic regulations. There have been 400 violations around the state putting women’s lives in danger.

Annual Commonwealth Prayer Breakfast. This event takes place on the second Wednesday in January which is opening day of the General Session. This year’s speaker was Tony Hall who served Ohio as a Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives. He testified about having it all yet still searching as his emptiness drove him to seek Jesus. A clear Gospel presentation was given, and we continue to pray that those who attended would be drawn to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Annual Cookie Drop. On January 19, a dozen volunteers delivered over 160 boxes of homemade cookies to the legislators, pages and security personnel as a “thank you” for their service to our commonwealth.

Encourage-a-Legislator Project. Once again, volunteers adopted a delegate and a state senator for the session. Each week the legislator received a postcard of encouragement. The volunteers also prayed regularly for their “adopted” member of the General Assembly.

Janet Robey concluded by stressing how important voting and participation in policy making is to the Christian and invited all in attendance to get involved in the Yorktown Prayer/Action Chapter.

The speaker, Linda Wall, is no stranger to CWA. She has been a friend and volunteer with CWA for many years. Linda shared how, while attending Longwood College, she abandoned her Christian upbringing and became involved in homosexuality. She was seduced into the homosexual behavior by an older woman. She stressed that it is not genetic.

During her ten years of living the lesbian lifestyle, periodically Jesus would tug at her heart. She began to question what God might have to say about homosexuality. The most profound incident that began her return to Jesus was the night she was walking the Boardwalk at Virginia Beach, and someone had placed Bible tracts along her path; the subject of the tract was “going to hell.”

After sharing her testimony, Linda graciously opened up the floor for questions to the audience. There were many in attendance whose lives had been affected by the homosexual lifestyle in some facet: either a family member or someone they knew.

Linda encouraged everyone to pick up a copy of CWA’s resource, Lies vs. Truth. It covers the top lies of the homosexual revolution, which Linda researched over a period of two years.

Short Virginia Legislative Session Means Bills are Flying Right and Left

By | Virginia | No Comments

We are over halfway through our 45-day legislative session for 2015. Please continue to pray for our legislators that they would pass bills that are common sense and God-honoring. We have included a few bills for your review and when you click on the bill you can see the status.

Marijuana Possession – A bill that CWA of Virginia opposed and lobbied against was SB 686. This bill could have decriminalized simple marijuana possession. We visited members of the Courts of Justice Committee, and they ended up passing by indefinitely, so that bill is killed for this session.

Home School – A victory was won for home schooled students as HB 1626 was passed in the House and has now been assigned to the Senate Education and Health Committee. Students receiving home instruction will be able to participate in interscholastic programs (Also known as the “Tebow” bill).

Common Core – CWA across the nation has been fighting against Common Core and with this knowledge and background CWA of Virginia successfully lobbied for SB 724. SB 724 keeps Common Core from being implemented without prior General Assembly approval. We are grateful for Sen. Richard Black (R-District 13) who saw the need for this legislation and introduced it in the Senate. It was passed by the Senate on January 30, 2015. The house version is HB 1752 and has passed out of House sub-committee on Education and, hopefully, will come before the full House soon.

Take Action: Thank Sen. Black for introducing SB 724. Contact your Delegate and encourage him/her to vote for HB 1752. If you don’t know who he/she is, simply click here and put in your address. It’s easy!

Sexual Behavior and Gender References – The number of bills introduced and then advanced by Equality Virginia (a statewide, non-partisan organization seeking equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Virginians) has increased this year because we have a pro-homosexual governor. They are inspired to up their game in Virginia, and they have. Over 20 bills have been introduced. SB 785 and SB 1211 are just two of those bills.

SB 785 would add sexual behavior to the state’s hiring policy of non-discrimination. This measure passed the Senate with our Lt. Governor breaking the tie. It will be referred to the House General Law Committee tomorrow. (Click here any time to view the status on this bill.)

SB 1211 would remove gender specific references from state law. Every instance that husband or wife is mentioned will be changed to spouse. Every instance when mother or father is mentioned will be changed to parent. SB 1211 will be referred to the House General Law Committee tomorrow. (Click here any time to view the status on this bill.)

Take Action: Contact the members of the House General Laws Committee and ask each one of them to vote NO on SB 785 and SB 1211. The House will need encouragement to prevent these from reaching the Governor’s desk. Contact your Delegate and encourage him/her to vote NO on SB 785 and SB 1211. If you don’t know who he/she is, simply click here and put in your address. It’s easy!

Abortion – Another bill we are following is Delegate Dave LaRock’s (R-District 33) Virginia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, HB 2321. Virginia has a compelling interest in protecting the lives of unborn children from the stage at which substantial medical evidence indicates that they are capable of feeling pain.

Take Action: Read and take action on our February 3 action alert.

“Righteous are You, O Lord, and Your laws are right. The statutes You have laid down are righteous; they are fully trustworthy.” Psalm 119:137-138

Pray that our legislators will be tuned into what is righteous, trustworthy and Biblical.

Virginia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act Needs Your Support

By | Virginia | No Comments

The Virginia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, HB 2321
Sponsored by Delegate Dave LaRock

Summary: “The act prohibits an abortion after 20 weeks gestation unless, in reasonable medical judgment, the mother has a condition that so complicates her medical condition as to necessitate the abortion to avert her death or to avert serious risk of substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function.” Click here to read the summary in its entirety as well as the text of the bill and it’s status.

Talking Points:

  • Unborn children have pain receptors (nociceptors) present throughout their entire body and nerves link these receptors to the brain’s thalamus and subcortical plate by no later than 20 weeks.
  • The unborn child reacts to touch by 8 weeks after fertilization.
  • After 20 weeks, the unborn child reacts to stimuli that would be recognized as painful if applied to an adult, for example, by recoiling.
  • In the unborn child, application of such painful stimuli is associated with significant increases in stress hormones known as the stress response.
  • For the purposes of surgery on unborn children, fetal anesthesia is routinely administered and is associated with a decrease in stress hormones compared to their level when painful stimuli are applied without such anesthesia.
  • Consequently, there is substantial medical evidence that an unborn child is capable of experiencing pain by 20 weeks after fertilization.
  • Therefore, Virginia has a compelling interest in protecting the lives of unborn children from the stage at which substantial medical evidence indicates that they are capable of feeling pain.

Status: This bill has been assigned to the House Courts of Justice Committee.

Take Action:

1. Please contact the Delegates on the House Courts of Justice Committee and ask that they support HB 2321.
