These Three Bad Illinois Abortion Bills Will Be Voted On Soon! Please Pray and Take Action Today.

“For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13

SB 1564, Health Care Right of Conscience, that you stopped last year, is back.  As amended it would require pro-life physicians and hospitals as well as crisis pregnancy centers to discuss the “benefits” of abortion and refer the patient to a place where they can get an abortion.   Bottom line, all physicians, hospitals and crisis pregnancy centers would be forced to promote abortions regardless that abortion kills a human being and regardless of their religious convictions. Violations of the law would be punishable. Both life and religious freedom is on the line. Click here to read bill and review its status.

SB 1564 passed the Illinois Senate in 2015 and will become law if passed in the House.

HB 5576, Insurance CD-Contraceptive Coverage, would require insurance policies to cover for the first time over-the-counter and wrongly labeled “emergency contraception” drugs like Plan B, Ella, My Way and Take Action that their own information sheets state “may also work by preventing a fertilized egg to implant in the uterine wall.” We all started out as embryos.  This is far from preventing conception – conception has already taken place. Click here to read bill and review its status.

HB 4013, State Insurance–Public Aid–Abortion, removes all prohibitions on using taxpayer funding for abortions throughout the full nine months of pregnancy under Medicaid and would pay for abortions for state employees for any reason and for the full nine months. We fought this in the Supreme Court in 1979, and it was upheld in its entirety in 1980.  Since then no taxpayer funds have been used for abortion in Illinois except in rare exceptions. A clear majority of Illinoisans do not want their tax dollars to pay for abortion. Click here to read bill and review its status.

Pray that:

  • Babies are protected in the womb from those who want to murder them.
  • Illinois churches will rise up and put a stop to abortion.
  • Legislators will know they are accountable to Almighty God for the laws that are enacted to murder babies in the womb.
  • Pray for your legislators by name.  May the Lord draw them to Himself.

Take Action:

  1. If you are frustrated at what is going on in our great state, PLEASE take a few minutes to call Springfield and help to stop some very bad bills that are being considered.  Calls are more effective than e-mails at this point because they are counting the number of calls both for and against.  You have stopped bills before with your calls.  Please do it again.  All these calls are to your State Representative. You can probably make one call and ask him/her to vote NO on SB 1564, HB 5576, and HB 4013.  List them by their bill numbers and ask the person who answers the phone to make a record of your call. Click here for Illinois House Directory.  Don’t know who your representative is?  No problem, click here to find out who your representative is and how to contact them.
  2. Contact your friends, family and church.  Urge them to defend the right to life for babies in the womb by calling their representative.

“Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:  ‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?  Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” -Matthew 22:34-40

May we be faithful to practice the two greatest commandments.

CWA of Illinois Supports the National Day of Prayer – Thursday, May 5, 2016

By | Illinois | No Comments

The 65rd annual National Day of Prayer (NDP) is Thursday, May 5, 2016 – a day set aside by Congress in 1988 for citizens to take time out from their daily schedules to pray for their communities, their nation, and their leaders.

Dr. Tony Evans, 2016 National Day of Prayer Honorary Chairman, wrote a special prayer to be simultaneously read throughout the nation on May 5 at noon EDT (11:00 a.m. Central Time). This recitation will create a huge wave of prayer flowing from one coast to the other, illustrating the unity of God’s people and acknowledging His dominion over the circumstances facing us.

Why not join with millions across America to pray this prayer on May 5? By His grace, God will answer when we call. (Psalm 107:28)

Dear heavenly Father, we come to You today as a humble people desperate for Your supernatural intervention on behalf of our beloved nation.  First, we thank You for all the blessings You have bestowed on our land, blessings that have allowed us to bring so much good and benefit to not only our own citizens but also to the rest of the world. The very ideals upon which this country was founded were based on biblical truths, no matter how some try to rewrite history to deny that very fact today.

This is why our hearts are so broken over how You continue to be marginalized and dismissed by both our people and our institutions. We are also saddened by the fact that Your people have contributed greatly to the spiritual apathy that now engulfs us. Our satisfaction in remaining religious without being fully committed to living out the truths of Your Word has caused us to become co-conspirators with the forces of evil that are destroying us as a society.

It is for this reason that we personally and collectively repent of our carnality and recommit ourselves to becoming visible and verbal disciples of Jesus Christ. Enable us, by Your Spirit, to no longer be secret agent Christians but rather to publicly declare and live out Your truth in a spirit of love so that You feel welcome in our country once again.

Thank You for Your promise to hear our prayers when we call to You with hearts of repentance and obedience, which is how we are appealing to You today, Father. On behalf of Your church, we affirm afresh the priority You are to us that You would fill every dimension of our lives as we seek to bring You glory through the advancement of Your kingdom in our personal lives, our family lives, and in the lives of our churches and our government leaders. We confidently invite heaven’s intervention into all the affairs of our nation and we praise You in advance for Your answer.

In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen.

National Day of Prayer events have been slated throughout the nation.  Check with your church, local media, or log onto nationaldayofprayer.com to find a NDP service near you.

Give the ERA a Knockout Punch in Illinois in 2016

By | Illinois | No Comments

ERA – the Constitutional Amendment that is technically dead has been resuscitated for the 15th time in Illinois as SJRCA-24, U.S. Constitution Equal Rights Amendment.  A committee hearing is scheduled next Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. in the Illinois Senate.  Click here for more information.

History of ERA for those who are too young to remember:

  • Passage of the ERA would add these words to the U.S. Constitution: “Equality of rights under law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State on account of sex.”
  • The ERA would wipe out all ability to use any laws using gender as a defining characteristic.  This would overturn workplace and family laws that protect women, privacy laws that define who may use gender oriented bathrooms and locker rooms, and religious freedom laws. The ERA would also integrate same-sex and bi-sexual attraction into the U.S. Constitution.
  • The ERA could very well affect almost every area of life including Social Security, Medicare, health, insurance benefits, Medicare benefits, and pro-life issues
  • Since 1972 the Illinois General Assembly has voted NO on the ERA 14 times.

SJRCA-24 is expected to be heard in the Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments this Tuesday morning in the Illinois Senate.  They will rule whether the ERA can proceed to the full Senate for a ratification vote.  Your prayers and action are needed today!

Prayer requests:

  • Thank the Lord for the many times He has held back the ERA in Illinois.
  • Ask Him to intervene on our behalf.
  • Pray for each member of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments by name.  May they see the folly of this constitutional amendment.

Take action:

Call and/or e-mail the members of the Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments by close of business on Monday.  Leave a message if you need to.  Encourage them to vote NO on SJRCA-24! Let them know that the ERA is a poorly written amendment that harms women, their children and our society.  Let them know that at this time they should be focusing on solving the Illinois budget crisis and not on passing legislation that creates greater harm to women and our society. While the members on this subcommittee may be outside your state senate district, please remind their assistants that they do represent you on this committee.

  • Sen. Kwame Raoul (D-District 13)
    217-782-5338
  • Sen. Don Harmon (D-District 39)
    217-782-8176
  • Sen. Matt Murphy (R-District 27)
    (217) 782-4471

Pro-ERA proponents have never stopped working behind the scenes to ratify the ERA in Illinois. Let us stand even stronger and say “NO!” once again.  CWA has been battling the ERA as far back as 1978.  We will not back down! Let’s stop the ERA once and for all!

DAY OF SILENCE – Hijacking of Illinois Classrooms for Political Purposes

By | Illinois | No Comments

The Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) has designated April 15 as the Day of Silence – a day where public school students are encouraged to refuse to speak for an entire school day including during class. The event is to encourage sympathy and support of homosexual and transgender students whose behaviors have been silenced by those who disapprove of their lifestyle.

In opposition to the Day of Silence, CWA of Illinois is joining with pro-family organizations throughout the nation to endorse the Day of Silence WALKOUT.

Read the helpful guidelines below by Illinois Family Institute’s Cultural Analyst Laurie Higgins.

Please forward this e-alert on to like-minded friends and family.  Especially those with school age children.

Pray! Educate! Act!

Sincerely,

Parents, Teachers, and Administrators: What to Do on Day of Silence

Written by Laurie Higgins

The annual, well-organized, and nearly ubiquitous pro-homosexual/pro-gender-confusion political event called the Day of Silence (DOS) invades our public schools on Friday, April 15, 2016. The Day of Silence is sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) whose sole reason for existence is to use public schools to transform the beliefs of other people’s children about homosexuality and gender-confusion. The name is intended to convey the absurd notion that homosexual students are silenced by the hatred, bigotry, and ignorance of those who believe homoerotic activity, cross-dressing, and bodily mutilation are neither moral nor healthy.

While there are numerous pro-homosexual/pro-gender-confusion political events in our public schools, which are aided and abetted by liberal teachers who use curricula to reinforce their beliefs and social goals, there is only one organized event that seeks to oppose the DOS: the Day of Silence Walkout.

The Day of Silence Walkout is sponsored by a coalition of pro-family/pro-education groups from across the country who urge parents to ask their school administrators and children’s teachers these questions:

For administrators

  • Do you permit students to refuse to speak during instructional time on the DOS?
  • Do you permit teachers to refuse to speak during instructional time on the DOS?
  • Prior to the DOS, do you notify all parents about it, including sharing complete information about GLSEN’s role in organizing and providing materials for it and informing parents about what will be permitted in the classroom?

For teachers

  • Do you create classroom assignments or activities that accommodate student-refusal to speak on the DOS?
  • Do you teach lessons on oppression, censorship, or bullying in class on the DOS?
  • Will you be using any information from GLSEN to shape or inform your activities on the DOS?
  • If you accommodate student-refusal to speak and/or shape activities around ideas promoted by GLSEN for the DOS, will you be notifying parents ahead of time?

If administrators and teachers will be accommodating or participating in the DOS in any way, we urge parents to keep their children home. Every student absence costs districts much-needed money. If every year, administrative and faculty accommodation of political activity in the classroom costs districts money, perhaps they will cease accommodating it.

The goal of the DOS Walkout is not to exacerbate social and political turmoil within public schools or to advance a counter position. If parents keep their children home, social turmoil may, however, result because liberal teachers and homosexual activists respond poorly to opposition.

The goal of the Walkout is to tell public school administrations, teachers, and school boards that schools have no business allowing classrooms with captive audiences to be politicized. The Walkout conveys that message in the only language schools administrations and school boards that are terrified of homosexual activists understand: loss of funds.

Schools have every right to prohibit students from refusing to speak during class. Schools have every right to prohibit teachers from refusing to speak in class. Schools have an ethical obligation to inform parents about the Day of Silence and to tell both parents and students that students may remain silent during passing periods and free periods but that they may not refuse to speak during class. And teachers have the right to create classroom activities that require verbal participation. This is one way conservative teachers can work against the relentless efforts of liberal teachers and students to use public schools to promote their subversive beliefs.

Here is some little known information about the Day of Silence:

  • The Day of Silence began 20 years ago at the University of Virginia, has spread like a cancer into countless public high schools, and is now making its way into middle schools.
  • GLSEN proudly announced in 2013 that “Hundreds of thousands of students from more than 70 countries” participated in the National Day of Silence.
  • GLSEN offers videos and resources directed specifically at teachers—that is to say, government employees—that tell them how to help DOS participants in their political activities during instructional time.
  • GLSEN instructs teachers on what to do both prior to and on the Day of Silence:
  • Visit the Day of Silence website prior to the Day of Silence and share the resources available there “on social media in your classroom and with your colleagues.”
  • Focus on supporting your students who are participating in Day of Silence and on educating all your students.”
  • “Dedicate class time to exploring concepts of censorship, oppression, and social justice.”
  • “Provide opportunities for students to journal on times when they felt silenced.”
  • “…plan your typical classroom activities, but use the silence.  Switch out discussions and group work for reading writing, and even drawing.”
  • “Most importantly on the Day of Silence, your students need you to be an ally and an advocate.”
  • “Visit glsen.org for LGBT-inclusive classroom activities and lesson plans, model policies and practices, research, and to connect with a local GLSEN chapter near you.”

The homosexual clubs in public schools that serve as the water carriers for GLSEN put up posters, host bake sales, and distribute cards, buttons, and stickers. Such activities are permitted by the Equal Access Act, a federal law that requires all extracurricular clubs to be treated the same. There is no law, however, requiring schools to permit students to refuse to speak in class.

In fact, the DOS website posts this statement from the ACLU:

“You do NOT have a right to remain silent during class time if a teacher asks you to speak.”

Political activity in the service of highly controversial issues should not be permitted to disrupt instructional time. The Day of Silence is not centrally about ending bullying. The Day of Silence cynically exploits legitimate anti-bullying sentiment as a means to achieve GLSEN’s ultimate goal: the eradication of conservative beliefs on the nature and morality of homoerotic activity and “transgenderism.”

Illinois “Bathroom” Bill Set to Be Heard on April 5 – No Boys in Girls’ Bathrooms or Locker Rooms!

By | Illinois | No Comments

showerQuestion: Are you okay with a teenage male showering next to your teenage daughter?  Yes or No?

It has always been understood that boys use the boy’s rooms and girls use the girl’s rooms. Now it’s more about going to the bathroom with which one most identifies.  If one feels like a girl, though one is a biological male, one should be able to use the girl’s bathroom and locker room.  Yes?  No!

This is dangerous and violates student privacy and safety.  Illinois children need our help and protection in this growing feelings based society. Let’s do all we can to give it!

An April 5, 2016, hearing has been set for HB4474, known as the Pupil Physical Privacy Act.  Introduced by Rep.Thomas Morrison (R- District 54), this bill would:

  • Add clarity to the Illinois School Code with regard to locker room and bathroom usage.
  • Require schools to separate these spaces according to anatomy, or gender listed on a birth certificate.

“It’s reasonable, it’s rational, it’s common sense to separate these restrooms and locker rooms, these most intimate of spaces, by an individual’s anatomy rather than by one’s gender identity, “ – Rep. Thomas Morrison

Please pray

  • Illinois legislators will protect students’ right to privacy and safety.
  • Illinois students will be afforded private, safe facilities according to their biological sex.
  • Wisdom and common sense will prevail concerning this issue.

Take action:

  • Call and e-mail members of the Human Services Committee and urge them to support HB4474.  Click here for their names and contact information.
  • Call and e-mail your state representative and urge him/her to co-sponsor and support the passage of HB 4474. Click here for Illinois House Directory.  Click here to find out who your representative is and how to contact them.
  • Urge your pastors, school administrators, teachers, parents of school-aged children, etc. to contact their state representative to support HB 4474.
  • If time allows, commend the sponsors of HB4474 listed below.  Click on each name for contact information.
  • Please attend the Human Services Committee Hearing on HB 4474 on April 5 at 8:00 a.m. in the Stratton Building (Room C-1) at 401 S. Spring Street, Springfield, IL 62706.

CWA of Illinois Issues in Focus meeting Recap

By | Illinois | No Comments

IL Issues Feb 2016

The 2016 CWA Issues in Focus Series was kicked off on February 29, 2016, at the Stephenson County Farm Bureau in Freeport, Illinois, with our guest Rev. Robert Vanden Bosch, CEO of  Concerned Christian Americans.

Rev. Bob spoke on a variety of topics ranging from his personal experiences with legislators during his 30 tenure as a Christian lobbyist in Springfield to the 2016 Elections. He stressed the importance of Christians becoming active participants in the political arena and urged attendees to pray for their leaders, to get to know them by helping with their campaigns, and to run for office – especially as Precinct Committeemen.

He urged Christians to participate in the Presidential election, stressing they could change the course of America with their efforts and votes. A time for questions and answers immediately followed the briefing.

Attendees enjoyed chicken casserole, fresh fruit cup, homemade Callah bread and a variety of homemade pies a la mode.

In attendance was Debi Allen, CWA’s new Prayer/Action Chapter Leader from Rock Island.

Illinois Legislators Need Our Prayers. Be Part of Our Encourage-A-Legislator Project.

By | Illinois | No Comments

We are seeking intercessors for the CWA of Illinois Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL) Project for the 2016 General Assembly Session in Springfield.  This is the 100th Illinois General Assembly.

EAL is a program of encouragement and prayer for our Illinois legislators. It involves:

  1. Sending a postcard every month and praying earnestly for a randomly assigned legislator
  2. CWA will provide the pre-addressed postcards that contain a Scripture, Founding Father quote, and prayer.
  3. Participants sign their names and put a stamp on the cards.
  4. Some participants may feel led to pray for more than one legislator. (Just let me know)

Depending upon this year’s response, CWA of Illinois also plans to send postcards to Illinois County Board Chairpersons.

Legislators throughout the nation have expressed gratitude and appreciation for those who have encouraged and prayed for them through the Encourage-A-Legislator Project.

Prayer moves the Hand of God in the affairs of this nation. In fact we are commanded to pray for those in authority.

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior”- 1 Timothy 2:1

If you would like to participate in the CWA of Illinois Encourage-a-Legislator Project, please call 815-297-2918 or e-mail me at director@illinois.cwfa.org.

Sincerely,

Debbie Leininger
State Director
