Nance Responds to Kansas Anti-Abortion Amendment Defeat

By | News and Events, Press Releases, Sanctity of Life | No Comments

Penny Nance, Concerned Women for America’s CEO and President, had this to say concerning the defeat of the Kansas Value Them Both amendment:

“The disappointing results on the Kansas pro-life amendment will serve as a great motivator for the pro-life movement going forward. It reveals what we already knew: we have much work to do to promote a culture of love and life in every state.

“The good news is that we are free to do that work with the Supreme Court out of the way unconstitutionally mandating what every state must do. We embrace the opportunity to do the hard work necessary to change hearts and minds— however long it takes. But, we must do better to counter the lies of abortion extremists and to be strategic in our education and outreach.

“This is the democratic process at work. The battle to protect human life at all stages continues. We are confident in our position to achieve ultimate victory.”

CWA Representing You in the Senate

By | Dobbs, Louisiana, Missouri, News and Events, Sanctity of Life, Texas | No Comments

By Susanna Edgecomb, CWA’s Government Relations Summer Intern

Congress has returned from recess after the recent Supreme Court decision, Dobbs v. Jackson’s Women’s Health Organization, which released us from the death grip of Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey and leaves the question of abortion policy to the people and their elected representatives. The U.S. Senate and House scheduled multiple hearings on Dobbs. Concerned Women for America (CWA) had front row seats to the hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee, the first of five congressional hearings in the first work week following Dobbs. The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, House Oversight and Reform, House Judiciary and House Energy and Commerce committees also had hearings.

Concerned Women for America and Young Women for America (YWA) leaders from Iowa, Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, and Arkansas were there to represent the women back home who have prayed for years for a decision like Dobbs. The leaders had the opportunity to meet with Ranking Member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) to share their thanks for standing for the sanctity of life. This is only the tip of the iceberg of ways that CWA and YWA are championing the cause for life in their respective states.

Every CWA chapter has been engaged on the issue of life for decades. We recall some of their efforts with thanksgiving to Almighty God: CWA of Iowa lobbied for pro-life legislation on the state level. They also prayed outside abortion clinics. CWA of Louisiana prayed outside abortion clinics, lobbied on the state level for pro-life legislation, and participated in the Louisiana March for Life. CWA representatives in Texas prayed outside abortion clinics and lobbied on the state level for pro-life legislation. CWA of Missouri participated in the Missouri March for Life and 40 Days for Life. The Missouri Team also lobbied on the state level and prayed outside abortion clinics. A YWA chapter in Arkansas participated in the state March for Life and volunteered at a local pregnancy resource center. YWA in Arkansas hosted a pro-life conference and prayed outside abortion clinics as well.

There is so much work that goes unnoticed, and this is only a small sample of some of the work our leaders have done in select states across the country. We thank each of you for being part of the movement that brought about this great post-Roe era. You oversee the most important work for life—the work that happens at home. But there is much work to be done, and we will continue to equip you to fight for a day when abortion is not only illegal but unthinkable.

Washington, D.C. – Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC), the largest grassroots women’s organization in the country, announced it will be rallying support for the Standing with Moms Act introduced last week by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) and Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina). This bill would create a website, life.gov, that will list local, state, and federal resources available for expectant moms and families. This initiative would compile both public and private sector information, which in a post-Roe America, is more vital than ever.

CWALAC members who were crucial in the overturn of Roe will be calling on Members of the House and Senate to co-sponsor and support this legislation that supports and helps women.

“We brainstormed a one-stop-shop website that expectant moms could use to learn about the public and private resources available to them to assist them throughout pregnancy and afterward. The resources would cover areas of need like education, healthcare, childcare, legal support, housing resources, prenatal care, and more,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President of CWALAC.

Whether its private adoption agencies, county services or crisis pregnancy centers, expectant women need to know what is available to them.

“This is common sense legislation, and we thank Sen. Rubio and Rep. Mace for championing women and working to support them in their journey to do what is best for their lives and those of their babies.”

CWALAC leaders and activists will be  hard at work in their state legislatures to make sure their state engages in a similar effort that helps keep all the resources up to date. We are committed to working until abortion becomes not only illegal but unthinkable in all 50 states.

Question for a Pro-life OB/GYN: Next Steps in a Post-Roe America

By | Dobbs, News and Events, YWA | No Comments

Since June 24, 2022, when the Supreme Court ruled in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that “the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives,” dangerous lies and misconceptions regarding abortion laws have circulated around social media and in the news.

Young Women for America (YWA) is hosting Dr. Bill Lile, a board-certified OB/GYN and pro-life speaker, on Monday, July 11,  to help arm YWA leaders with the truth concerning the overturn of Roe so that they are able to compassionately dispel any lies and encourage women that “pro-life is pro-woman.”

This informative event is open to all pro-life activists, young and seasoned alike, who are interested in hearing first-hand from a pro-life medical doctor as we transition our nation to a post-Roe America.

Concerned Women for America of North Dakota Supports
Bipartisan “Trigger Statute” Soon to Go Into Effect

Bismarck, North Dakota – Attorney General Drew Wrigley announced this morning that he hand-delivered a letter to the North Dakota Legislative Council today in response to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

The 2007 bipartisan “trigger bill,” House Bill 1466, banning abortion, was written to take effect should the Roe precedent be overturned. Its primary sponsor was former Rep. James Kerzman, a Democrat.   Many other Democrat House members voted to pass the bill, including the current Minority Leader, Sen. Joan Heckaman (New Rockford), Sen. Richard Marcellais (Belcourt), and Sen. Tim Mathern (Fargo).

Concerned Women for America (CWA) of North Dakota State Director Linda Thorson, speaking for Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, has this to say concerning the certification of the 2007 legislation regulating abortion:

“We are grateful that the North Dakota Legislature passed a strongly supported bipartisan ‘trigger statute’ that goes into effect next month! North Dakota stands ready to welcome women and unborn children. Our citizens, members of the state legislature, and our state administration have strongly supported a culture of life that protects all.”

“We are not so naive as to think that no more abortions will occur. After 50 years of a culture of death, we still have hearts and minds to change. We must continue to lovingly support and encourage women in their pregnancies. We must declare respect for life from the moment of conception and understand that all life is precious. We must recognize that we are created in the image of God.”

Missouri First State to Ban Abortion

By | Missouri | No Comments

Concerned Women for America of Missouri is excited and proud that Missouri is the first state to ban abortion after the announcement of the overturning of Roe v Wade in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. A trigger clause was added to HB126 in 2019, so when Roe was overturned, Missouri would ban abortions.

Missouri’s Attorney General Eric Schmitt (Republican) announced the activation of the state’s trigger law shortly after the high court’s decision was released. Read more here.

The work in the pro-life movement doesn’t end, but it is a new day in America and Missouri.

Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade
Missouri First State to End Abortion

Jefferson City, MO – In a 6-3 decision last Friday, June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court overturned Roe in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, sending the battle to protect life back to the states. On that same day, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt (Republican) issued an opinion to the Missouri Revisor of Statutes that “triggers” parts of Missouri’s House Bill 126, effectively ending abortion in the State of Missouri. Missouri is the first state in the country to do so.

Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Missouri State Director Bev Ehlen, speaking for Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, had this to say concerning the Supreme Court decision and the actions of Attorney General Schmitt:

“It was a great day for our country. Every child deserves the right to life. Roe was wrong from the start. The Court’s significant decision is welcomed after decades of pro-life activism. Individual states are now finally free to protect life.

“Our gratitude goes to our great God and those thousands of pro-lifers who have stood for the sanctity of human life in so many ways over these past 49 years.”

Historic Decision! Victory for Human Rights and Life in Dobbs Decision

Victory for Human Rights and Life in Dobbs Decision
CWA’s historic fight to protect life moves to the state level

Washington, D.C. – Today, Concerned Women for America (CWA) praised the U.S. Supreme Court for their recognition of the grave error of imposing the Court’s view of abortion policy on the nation by judicial fiat.  SCOTUS issued their opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization; in a 6-3 decision, the Court overturned the wrongfully decided Roe v. Wade decision and sent the battle to protect life back to the states.

“Today was a huge victory for human rights and life,” said Penny Young Nance, President and CEO of CWA Legislative Action Committee. “Concerned Women for America has been working towards this decision for almost 50 years. In 1973, the Roe v. Wade decision by the U.S. Supreme Court made it legal to destroy life, a child, in the womb up to birth.  In 2022, the Dobbs decision has allowed the conversation to begin again about what we, as a society, now know about fetal development and what restrictions should be placed on destroying human life in the womb.

“Concerned Women for America and Young Women for America leaders and activists are ready to continue the fight for the unborn at the state level and work with legislators to make sure our law reflects the voice of the people through the democratic process. Truly, the pro-life movement’s work has just begun, but this decision is a huge step toward CWA’s goal of making abortion unthinkable.”

The court held: “The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives.”

Night of Rage-We Will Not Stand Down

By | Dobbs, News and Events | No Comments

This poster is appearing all over the District of Columbia. According to Influence Watch, Jane’s Revenge, which said it was responsible for the attack on the pro-life organization in Madison, Wisconsin, is a far-left extremist group. Its name refers to the “Jane Collective,” which was a group in Chicago before the Roe decision that assisted women in obtaining illegal abortions.

On May 8, the Wisconsin Family Action offices were fire-bombed and vandalized. Anarchists’ symbols were painted on the walls, and their slogan “If abortions aren’t safe, then you aren’t either” was painted on the exterior wall.

In claiming responsibility for the attack in Wisconsin, Jane’s revenge stated, “This is not a declaration of war. War has been upon us for decades. A war which we did not want and did not provoke. Too long have we been attacked for asking for basic medical care. Too long have we been shot, bombed, and forced into childbirth without consent.”  They indicated that this was just the beginning and that there would be future attacks.

Concerned Women for America has been a presence at the Supreme Court every decision day in June. We will continue to be there until the Dobbs decision has been rendered. We have been involved in the fight for the lives of the unborn since our beginnings 43 years ago. We will not stand down!

As we have reported, our building was vandalized back in May. We have video of the young man exposing himself and urinating on our building. His hatred of us and what we do is evident in every gesture and look.

We wanted you to know that we are taking security precautions to safeguard our staff first and then our building. We have hired armed security who will be in the building every day, and they will also travel to the Court with us when we go.

Additional security and security precautions are not something for which we have budgeted. By the end of June, we will have invested $15,000 in additional security. We will do everything we can to be sure our staff and our property are protected. Your help in offsetting this cost would be so appreciated.

We ask for your prayers of protection over our staff and our property. As we go to the Court, we are practicing Matthew 10:16 “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”

CWA of California Hosting Prayer Vigil at March for Life

By | California | No Comments

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you
 before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:5

The California government is sending the message to its citizens that abortion at any stage for any reason is safe and encouraged, which sends the message that there is only one answer to unplanned pregnancy—abortion. This false narrative affects our culture in a very dangerous and terrible way by devaluing the sanctity of life.

There is hope and healing in unplanned pregnancies. Networks of churches, pregnancy health centers, and medical clinics provide nurturing environments that give free support, from prenatal care to counseling and adoption services to diapers and other childcare supplies. Babies in the womb are precious and sacred. We must send the message of redemption and protection of life.

Please join Concerned Women for America (CWA) of California at our prayer vigil that precedes the California March for Life. At the prayer vigil, CWA of California Prayer Chapter Leaders, pro-life pastors, and directors of local crisis pregnancy centers and medical clinics will be joining me in praying for our state and nation at the State Capitol in Sacramento. It will be a solemn time of blessing.

Here are the details:
Date: Wednesday, June 22
Time: 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Location: State Capitol in Sacramento

The power of prayer is effective and necessary. Please come join us! Spread this information to your church network, friends, and family. Click here for a flyer to share.

In 2 Chronicles 7:14, the Bible encourages us to meet together to pray. This highlights the value of fellowship in Jesus’ name. We should seek to gather together as the body of Christ to experience the Lord’s presence and blessings.

Action Needed-We Must Stop Infanticide in California

By | California | No Comments

Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) continues to strongly oppose AB 2223. You can read my previous alert concerning AB 2223 here.

Our collective opposition to AB 2223 sent a powerful message to bill author Assemblymember Buffy Wicks (D-District 15), causing her to adjust the “infanticide” language. The bill text, “perinatal death due to pregnancy related causes” was recently amended to say, “due to causes that occurred in utero.”  While this may be a partial victory, since the specific text allowing the potential killing of newborns unrelated to abortion has been removed, this new language still could allow for a baby born alive following a late-term abortion attempt to be left to die with no protection or investigation by law enforcement.

Should we still oppose this bill? Yes!

Attorney Susan S. Arnall summarizes the amendment, “AB 2223 operates to cover up the cause of a baby’s death. It provides abortionists and abusers legal cover to finish the job of killing an unwanted or inconvenient newborn by asserting the Cause In Utero Excuse up to 28 days after birth. The baby can be killed, and any evidence explaining her death will die with her. And that seems to be the point of AB 2223’s newest perinatal death clause – to excuse and make investigation of a newborn’s death wholly unnecessary and even actionable.”

Abortion, the violent killing of babies in the womb at any stage, must be stopped. The fact remains that abortion is legal until viability in California – and even afterward if a physician deems the mother’s life or “health” to be at risk. Viability is not at a subjective, arbitrary line. Life begins at conception. And the lives of the youngest Californians among us deserve to be defended and protected.

That AB 2223 prohibits the death of newborns from being investigated or reported by police is unconscionable and is not in the best interest of babies or women. AB 2223 must be stopped.

Please contact your State Assembly Member through our Action Center HERE and urge them to defend life and oppose AB 2223. Now is the time to act and make a difference!

Prayer: Dear Lord, we call upon you to take care of women and these issues they face with unplanned pregnancies and making decisions for the best interest of their baby. Please, Lord, bring wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. May women in California know that there are pregnancy medical clinics and centers that give support even after delivering their babies with food, clothes, and a community of support for child-rearing and adoption services. We pray that You will stop laws that do not support life. You are sovereign, Lord. We praise You for the partial victory on the amendment of this bill. Please continue to go before us and bless our efforts to oppose efforts that are not in the best interest of women and children. Thank you, Lord. Amen.

God bless you for your faithfulness in prayer and action! \

Abortion on Demand Act Defeated! Thank you!

By | Legislative Updates, News and Events, Sanctity of Life | No Comments

In an email sent yesterday, we asked you to contact your Senators and urge them to oppose S. 4132, the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA). Your engagement was successful!

On Wednesday afternoon, the WHPA failed to receive the 60 votes necessary to end debate on the Senate floor and advance to final passage. Thanks to your powerful messages, a bipartisan majority of the Senate—51 Senators including one Democrat–stood strong and rejected this radical ploy for abortion on demand up until birth. View the roll call HERE.

We cannot yield in our efforts to end this blatant denigration of the sanctity of all human life. The Left and Congressional Democrats have pledged to continue this futile charge to enshrine and expand Roe v. Wade into federal law and overrule all commonsense state measures to protect innocent life and the health and well-being of vulnerable women. Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee will fight back every step of the way to champion a culture of life. We hope you will walk alongside us!

Marching for Life Prayer Warriors

By | Virginia | No Comments

By Dorana Sylvia, CWA of Virginia’s Stafford Prayer/Action Chapter Leader

I was absolutely overwhelmed by the love and joy I experienced at the Virginia March for Life. It was refreshing to see so many people in prayer, both young and old, marching with the common goal of celebrating life! I rejoice that I was able to have my three sons and my mother join me on this special day with my Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Virginia family.

The Lord moved me to share my testimony, with many at the March, of having once been a late-term abortion ultra-feminist activist. I had believed the lie, yet God had a plan for my life. The common question was, “What made you change?” My response was a simple one, “Jesus Christ and the prayers of faithful Christians.”

God strategically placed in my path to get my attention survivors of abortion, children who had been conceived through incest, and rape victims who had kept their babies. How could I ever again advocate for abortion?

The people I met at the Virginia March for Life are those warriors who continue to pray for the lost and for God to save and restore those affected by abortion. While at the March, I never heard an insult toward women who have had abortions or were considering abortion. The message was clear: God is love, He is a forgiving God, women are not alone in their pregnancy, and God alone owns life.

The Enemy may try to come after our families and our children, but he is no match for my Savior, the Hope of the world, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Washington, D.C.— Penny Nance, CEO & President of Concerned Women for America, the largest public policy organization for women in the nation, had this to say about the leaked drafts of the United States Supreme Court Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization:

“The betrayal of trust we have witnessed today at the United States Supreme Court by what is reportedly the malicious leak of a private draft of the Court’s Dobbs opinion is outrageous.

“This appears to be another attempt by the left to intimidate the justices to uphold a law that is clearly unconstitutional. On the contrary, these tactics should only embolden the Court to stand firm on law and principle. Chief Justice John Roberts must take charge of his court and issue this decision as soon as possible, sending a clear message that the Court will never be intimidated.

“The hundreds of thousands of members of Concerned Women for America  remain prayerful and cautiously optimistic as we work to provide loving alternatives to the violent ending of a human life through abortion.”
