Washington, D.C. – Today, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) will lead grassroots leaders from around the country to the U.S. Capitol for a pivotal advocacy day to tell Congress to “Slash the Cash, Save the Kids” in budget negotiations. This grassroots initiative demands urgent action to defund Big Abortion. Organizations, such as Planned Parenthood, which is not a legitimate healthcare provider but rather the nation’s leading abortion provider, responsible for nearly 40% of abortions in 2023, still receive millions of taxpayer dollars. The abortion giant has also become a leading provider of so-called “gender affirming care,” promoting radical drugs and procedures which devastate children and families through irreversible and unnecessary surgeries that cause bodily harm.
Our message to “Slash the Cash, Save the Kids” aligns with President Trump’s pledge to cut government waste, fraud, and abuse, by targeting Big Abortion’s nearly $700 million in annual taxpayer funds. The prioritization of abortion services and promotion of harmful gender ideology above real women’s healthcare is wrong and Americans do not want their tax dollars supporting it. With a Republican-controlled Executive and Congress, CWALAC sees this as a critical moment to redirect funds to life-affirming pregnancy care centers and Federally Qualified Health Centers that provide comprehensive, safe healthcare.
“Big Abortion, led by Planned Parenthood, profits from nearly 400,000 abortions annually while masquerading as a healthcare provider, and their push for so-called ‘gender-affirming care’ endangers our children with irreversible procedures. These are not healthcare solutions but assaults on life and truth,” said Penny Young Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America LAC.
“Defunding Planned Parenthood is about reclaiming moral clarity and fiscal responsibility, investing in care that respects every person’s dignity—born and unborn,” said Cathy McMorris Rodgers, former U.S. Representative and former Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, who has inspired CWA leaders with her story and passion for the cause of life.
Lobby Day Highlights
- Advocate Meetings with Lawmakers: Participants include CWA leaders from across the country and Young Women for America leaders (YWA) who will meet with Congressional representatives to share stories and data underscoring the need to defund Big Abortion.
- Briefing: A briefing at the Capitol will feature speeches from parents, advocates, and lawmakers, and will amplify the campaign’s message.
- Social Media Campaign: Advocates will use the hashtag #SlashTheCashSaveTheKids to share real-time updates, photos, and messages, encouraging support.
Facts About Big Abortion and Planned Parenthood
- Taxpayer Funding: In 2023, Planned Parenthood received nearly $700 million in government funds, equating to nearly $2 million per day, primarily from Medicaid.
- Abortion Services: Planned Parenthood performed nearly 400,000 abortions in 2023, accounting for 40% of the nearly 1 million abortions nationwide, making it the nation’s largest abortion provider.
- Lack of Comprehensive Care: Planned Parenthood does not offer mammograms or other essential women’s health services, yet claims to be a total healthcare provider, while Federally Qualified Health Centers and Pregnancy Care Centers provide broader, safer care.
- Gender-Affirming Care: Planned Parenthood is a leading provider of “gender-affirming care” for minors, with a 544% increase in such visits at Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio from 2021 to 2022. They host classes for teens, distribute materials in schools, and support school board candidates promoting gender ideology.
- Political Spending: Instead of addressing safety concerns, Planned Parenthood spent nearly $70 million in the last election cycle to defeat pro-family candidates, using taxpayer funds to oppose the very lawmakers seeking to defund them.
Why This Matters
Big abortion businesses focus on abortion and “gender-affirming care” undermines family values and harms vulnerable populations nationwide. The promotion of gender ideology is devastating, leading to irreversible physical and psychological harm for children and families. Public opposition to taxpayer-funded abortion is strong, yet organizations like Planned Parenthood’s federal funding continues to rise, highlighting the need for grassroots advocacy to counter Big Abortion’s influence.
Call to Action
CWALAC urges Congress to:
- Defund organizations like Planned Parenthood and redirect its $700 million in taxpayer funds to life-affirming pregnancy resource centers and Federally Qualified Health Centers.
- End all federal funding for “gender-affirming care,” particularly for minors, to protect children from irreversible medical interventions.
- End this wasteful spending as part of the reconciliation package currently under review.
Advocates are encouraged to join the movement by promoting #SlashTheCashSaveTheKids, and contacting their representatives to support defunding Big Abortion.
