Pray for Missouri AG Eric Schmitt

By | Missouri | No Comments

Please join Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Missouri in praying for Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt. AG Schmitt’s lawsuit to stop President Biden’s vaccine mandate will be heard in the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday, January 7, 2022.

This case has critical implications, not only for our state but for the integrity of our Constitutional liberties, so please,  be in prayer for Attorney General Schmitt and all those involved in this case.

Prayer for Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt

Father, in Jesus’ name, we give thanks for the United States of America and its government. We pray for all those in authority in our land. It is written in Your Word to call on You, and You will answer us and show us great and mighty things.

We lift up Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, all those representing the citizens of this nation before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court Justices.

We pray for skillful and Godly wisdom to enter the hearts and minds of AG Schmitt and his team. We pray for discretion to watch over them; that understanding will keep them. We pray that no weapon formed against them shall prosper, and any false accuser will be dismissed as a liar.

Father, we ask that you surround the Justices with men and women full of wisdom. We ask you to make their hearts and ears attentive to godly counsel and to do that which is right in Your sight. We thank you that the shield of faith quenches every fiery dart of the enemy.

It is written that the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord and that You turn it whichever way You desire. We believe the heart of these officials and the U.S. Supreme Court Justices are in Your hand and their decisions are divinely given by You.

In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.

Sincerely,
Bev Ehlen
State Director

CWA of Missouri Celebrates Removal of NDAA Provision Drafting Our Daughters

By | Missouri | No Comments

Concerned Women for America of Missouri (CWA) thanks Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) and Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Missouri) for their part in championing the removal of harmful language requiring women to register for the Selective Service from the FY 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). We are grateful for their steadfast leadership.

Rep. Hartzler had this to say about the NDAA provision:

“The NDAA provision which forced women to register for the draft was never about improving military readiness. Instead, it passed through committee under the misplaced guise of ‘equality,’ imposing a woke ideology on our troops rather than meeting the current needs of our military.

Women are not chess pieces in a political game. They are doctors, lawyers, engineers, and already valuable members of our all-volunteer force. I applaud the removal of this unnecessary provision and am grateful to see reasonable minds come together to join me in resisting this effort.”

You can read Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee’s entire press release here and more information on CWALAC’s efforts on the Don’t Draft Our Daughters issue here.

CWA of Missouri applauds all members of Congress who  rejected the shameful fallacy that Congress must rubber stamp the social experimentation of our military to secure critical funding for our troops and national security.

We are thrilled that our leaders have chosen to respect women and their role in serving our nation without sacrificing our daughters on the altar of political correctness. Thank you for eliminating language to draft women.

Please continue to pray for our state and national legislators as they continue to stand for biblical values in all levels of public policy.

Sincerely,
Bev Ehlen
State Director

Concerned Women for America of Missouri is excited to launch our 2022 Encourage-a-Legislator (EAL) program!

For those who have not participated in our EAL program in the past, it focuses solely on prayer and encouragement for our state legislators. The EAL program is one of Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Missouri’s most valued programs. Though CWA members and friends regularly contact their legislators and pray concerning our core issues, the EAL program is designed to pray for and encourage the legislators with no mention of legislation or policy. Regardless of whether legislators are conservative, liberal, Republican, Democrat, Independent, Christian, or non-Christian, they need both our prayer and encouragement.

For more information about the EAL program click here. Please print and distribute to others who might want to participate in our program.

If you would like to participate, please contact CWA of Missouri’s EAL Coordinator, Ginger Yoak. She can be contacted at [email protected]. Provide your name, mailing address, phone number, and specify whether you would like to adopt one or two legislators.

Sincerely,
Bev Ehlen

Event Descriptions:

Critical Race Theory Exposed with Dr. Mary Byrne, Ed.D.
Dr. Byrne’s presentation will explain how current events, most notably the recent violence ignited by claims of systemic racism, are grounded in critical race theory; and how critical race theory is grounded in Karl Marx’s writing instructing followers how to start a revolution in a nation.

Please plan to attend to find out what Critical Race Theory (CRT) is, why it is very concerning for our public schools, and what you can do to protect the children in your community.

Dr. Byrne’s presentation will reveal how almost two centuries of Marxism have infiltrated the U.S. government, the law, churches, the military, and education. She will explain how there is a current concerted effort to indoctrinate Missouri school children by instilling the Critical Race Theory curriculum into the public school system.

Dr. Mary Byrne, Ed.D., is a national speaker and co-founding member of Missouri Coalition Against Common Core. She has an M.A. in special education and an M.Ed. in curriculum and instructional design, and a doctorate in special education from Teachers College at Columbia University.

Protecting Young Minds Online Act with Alissa Johnson

Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Missouri invites you to a presentation by CWA of Missouri’s Legislative Liaison Alissa Johnson, on the Protect Young Minds Online Act (PYMOA).

Alissa leads the CWA of Missouri legislative team at the Missouri State Capitol advocating for the passage of PYMOA – legislation that will require internet service providers in the state to add a filter to protect children from viewing pornography/obscenity online.

More than forty years ago, Missouri lawmakers created a Missouri statute that would make furnishing pornographic material to minors a Class A misdemeanor. The statute has never been updated to include the internet. Presently, minors are accessing pornography/obscenity via the internet on their cell phones, home computers, friends’ laptops/tablets, etc. The PYMOA will help remedy this.

Update on All Things Israel with Jon Bierman

Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Missouri is excited to announce that Jon Bierman will be back with us to share what has been happening in Israel. There were a few good, calm years during the Trump Administration, but in the last eight months, things are once again erupting – from the change in Prime Ministers, the newly seated Knesset, continued threats from Hamas, and COVID-19 restrictions.

Jon has practiced law as a commercial litigator in St. Louis, first at the law firm of Gallop, Johnson & Neuman and then with Polsinelli, P.C. Bierman’s degree in history from Washington University focused on the history of the Middle East. He has a J.D., magna cum laude from Saint Louis University School of Law, 1998, and a B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis, 1995.

More about the event

The discussion of “All Things Israel” will include the results of the recent election. Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud party were unseated after 12 years of service as Prime Minister. Netanyahu was replaced by Naphtali Bennet. Bennet assembled a fragile coalition of eight diverse political parties to attain power. He won by one vote in the Knesset vote.

Hamas recently depleted their stockpile of 4,300 Iranian supplied rockets, firing at populated areas, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. During the current “cease-fire,” Hamas reverted to launching helium balloons carrying firebombs, along the Gaza border.

The chairman of one of the Arab political parties, in the newly seated Knesset, recently declared, “Jerusalem will one day be the Capital of Palestine. Our people will cause them (Jews) to be ashamed and withdraw from these places.” This indicates the new Prime Minister will be tested as he seeks to lead the State of Israel.

Israel is leading the world in Covid-19 injections, with a goal of 100 percent citizen participation. Policies that restrict employment, activities, and travel are in place. This has been a severe blow to their lifestyle, economy, and tourism business, which is most critical to the Israeli economy.

CWA of Missouri Applauds Missouri Attorney General’s Request

By | Missouri | No Comments

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt has asked the Supreme Court to formally review the 2019 “Missouri Stands for the Unborn Act” after a judge granted Planned Parenthood’s request for an injunction, stopping the law from being enacted.

Concerned Women for America of Missouri State Director Bev Ehlen had this to say about the review request, “We are pleased that the Missouri Attorney General has appealed to the United States Supreme Court concerning the pro-life bill. The Missouri General Assembly voted overwhelmingly (110-44 in the House and 24-10 in the Senate) to pass this bill. We hope the U.S. Supreme Court will take it up and decide it on behalf of the unborn.”

CWA Event: Protect Young Minds Online Act

By | Missouri | No Comments

If you live in or around Camdenton, Missouri, Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Missouri invites you to come to hear CWA of Missouri Legislative Liaison, Alissa Johnson, speak on the Protect Young Minds Online Act (PYMOA), Tuesday, July 27 in Camdenton, Missouri.

The Missouri State Capitol in advocating for the passage of PYMOA – legislation that will require internet service providers in the state to add a filter to protect children from viewing pornography/obscenity online. This legislation is the first and only of its kind and has been vetted and supported by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

The PYMOA will be a partial remedy for that.

According to the testimony of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners in Missouri, they are finding that over 40 percent of perpetrators who assault minor children are minor children themselves – ages 10-14. These assaults by children are attributed to the acting out of what they have observed while watching online pornography.

We Need You! This is the third year that PYMOA has been filed, and movement for its passage made in the Missouri General Assembly. Each year that the PYMOA is not passed, the problem grows exponentially. It will take an active, grassroots outcry to motivate elected members of the General Assembly to pass this bill.

Meeting Details:
When: Tuesday, July 27 at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Key Gathering Place, 1163 Business MO 5, Camdenton, MO 65020

Update on HB 952– Bill Prohibiting the Rejection of American Exceptionalism in Schools

Good news!

Recently, I wrote to you (see below my signature)  about HB952, a good bill that would prohibit public schools from teaching, using, promoting, or providing students the 1619 Project as part of the curriculum course materials or instruction. The 1619 Project teaches Missouri students to reject the truth of American exceptionalism. It seeks to create the myth that our country, and all its accomplishments, both as a whole and individually, are founded upon, and the direct result of, racism.

HB 952 was heard in the General Laws Committee on Monday, April 19. Bill sponsor, Rep. Brian Seitz (R-District 156), did an excellent job presenting his bill and answering questions from the committee. I had the privilege to testify in support of the bill on behalf of our Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Missouri members, along with other outstanding testimony given by Don Hinkle, editor of the Pathway, a mom from St. Louis County, and a former schoolteacher. There were 588 witness forms submitted on HB952, with 373 in support of the amendment. Thank you to those who submitted forms in support.

Current status of HB 952:
The bill passed out of the General Laws Committee and now goes to the Rules: Legislative Oversight Committee. If voted do pass by the committee, the bill could go on the House Calendar for perfection.

Prayer Alert:
With just over two weeks left in the legislative session, would you please pray for the members on the Rules: Legislative Oversight Committee by name. Please pray that God would give them the wisdom and understanding to accomplish His purpose.

State Director

Previous Alert

Voice your support for a good bill that will stop the reframing of U.S. history and eliminate any curriculum that teaches our students to distrust our Founding Fathers and our founding documents.

You can make a difference in Missouri by praying and acting on an important bill being heard in the General Laws Committee on Monday, April 19. HB952, sponsored by Rep. Brian Seitz (R-District 156), defines the “1619 Project” and prohibits public schools from teaching, using, promoting, or providing students the 1619 Project as part of the curriculum course materials or instruction.

The 1619 Project teaches students to reject the truth of American exceptionalism. And it seeks to create the myth that our country, and all of its accomplishments, both as a whole and individually, are founded upon, and the direct result of, racism.

“Our country has a complex and rich history,” says Rep. Seitz. “Parts of that history are hard to fathom and accept, including the issue of slavery. All of that history, both the bad and the good, should be taught to our students without bias or revision. My bill stops the bias, keeps the history, and stems the Leftists’ tide.”

This Monday, April 19, I will testify in favor of HB952 and urge the General Laws Committee members to give the bill a do-pass recommendation. I covet your prayers. The General Laws Committee will vote on the bill at a later date.

Sincerely,

Calls Needed to Shield Children from Pornography

By | Missouri | No Comments

SB 336, the Protect Young Minds Online Act, is a very good bill. Sponsored by Sen. Rick Brattin (R-District 31), SB 336 will require internet providers to provide a filter so that when a person searches online and is directed to an obscene website, the person will be required to enter a password to proceed to that website. SB 336 will better protect minor children from accessing online pornography. A similar bill, House Bill 919, is sponsored by Rep. Doug Richey (R-District 38.)

Read more about the Protect Young Minds Online Act.

Advancing Technologies Necessitate Updated Statutes
A statute established more than 40 years ago made furnishing pornographic material to minors a class A misdemeanor. In the past, a cover was put over a magazine, the magazine was put behind the counter, and pornographic videos were moved to a back room, out of the reach of minor children. The problem today is technology has advanced, and statutes have never been updated to incorporate this technology. We need this legislation to include pornographic websites for the protection of innocent minor children.

Take Action

  1. Contact your state senator and urge him or her to support SB 336 and contact your state representative and urge him or her to support HB 919. Click here to find your state representative and state senator. If you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Missouri, be sure to let them know.
  2. Contact Speaker of the House Rob Vescova (R-District 112) and request that Speaker Vescova give his full support to HB 919. Phone: 573-751-3607 or email ([email protected]).
  3. Forward this information to other concerned family and friends.

Please pray: Father, please help our senators and representatives understand how important it is to protect our children from the harms of pornography. Give them the wisdom and COURAGE to say “yes” to these bills. Lord, may Your will be done in Missouri. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Protect Young Minds Online Act Will Shield Missouri Children from Pornography

Brattin’s office at the Missouri State Capitol after the hearing on SB 336 on Wednesday, February 24. (photo by Senator Brattin’s Chief of Staff, Tucker Jobes))

Consumer Protection, Energy and Environment Committee on Wednesday, February 24, at the Missouri State Capitol. Sponsored by Sen. Rick Brattin (R-District 31), SB 336 will require internet service providers to authenticate access to obscene websites and provide subscribers the ability to create an authentication to access such websites. A similar bill, House Bill 919, is sponsored by Missouri Representative Doug Richey (R-District 38.)

Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Missouri State Director Bev Ehlen had this to say about the bill, “A statute established over 40 years ago created the offense of furnishing pornographic material to minors as a class A misdemeanor.” Back then, a cover was put over the magazine, the magazines were put behind the counter, and pornographic videos were moved to a backroom out of the reach of minor children. The problem today is technology has advanced, and the statute has never been updated to include technology. We need this legislation to cover the internet, so our minor children are protected.”

Filters and Passwords to Protect
In a nutshell, SB 336 will require internet providers who want to do business in Missouri to provide a filter to shield ages 17 and under from obscenity. Subscribers over the age of 18 will have the ability to create a password, so when an obscene website is flagged, the subscriber enters the password and continues to the website. The bill also prohibits the collection or use of information about the use or user of the password.

“I am honored to sponsor SB 336,” stated Sen. Brattin. “It will protect young minds from the devastating effects of pornography that is far too easily accessible online. Today, we heard heartbreaking testimony from health professionals and others of real-life horrors that have occurred to young children. Thank you to those who testified in support of this bill to help protect our most vulnerable.”

The Hearing
During the hearing on SB 336, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Heidi Olson testified, “One third to one-half of the perpetrators of sexual assault on minors are other minors between the ages of 12 and 14 who watch online pornography.” According to Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Miriam Crandall, this number does not include the perpetrators under the age of 12 because the state of Missouri does not prosecute minors under the age of 12 who commit sexual crimes. “In my experience, the number is much higher,” Crandall revealed at the hearing.

President and Founder of Stop Trafficking Project, Russ Tuttle, also testified at the hearing on SB336. Tuttle travels across Missouri making presentations to students on the dangers of social media and online activities. His testimony included horror stories of young students who talked to him after he spoke at their school. “One young girl, in tears, showed me the choke marks on her neck. She said her boyfriend choked her the day before, after viewing the act in online pornography,” Tuttle testified. “Another young girl, also weeping, told me that her best friend had just committed suicide because another student was using a nude photo of her to blackmail her.”

What is Next?
CWA of Missouri Legislative Liaison, Alissa Johnson, has been working on the Protect Young Minds Online Act for three years. According to Johnson, lawmakers do not hear the full outcry from Missouri families because those families, which have been affected by sexual assault, want privacy. “There were many in the hearing yesterday who were brought to tears, including me, by the devastating testimonies of what is happening to our children. We hope that the impact of the hearing yesterday will move this bill to a vote out of committee quickly, and then it will be brought to the floor for debate and passage, and the precious children of Missouri will be better protected.”
