Good Pro-Life Bill Dies

By | Colorado | No Comments

Last Friday, the House Health and Insurance Committee failed to move on a good pro-life bill in which you prayed and took action. The committee “postponed indefinitely” HB23-1150, the Information Abortion Pill Reversal bill. I was present at the hearing representing your voice, and my written testimony in support of the bill was submitted for the record.

The defeat of HB23-1150 was a grave injustice to women in Colorado seeking to reverse their abortion. The bill simply sought to require the state to provide state-prepared information concerning abortion pill reversal to any woman seeking an abortion. Excellent testimony was presented to support the need for women to have easy access to this information in a timely manner.

The science behind the safety and efficacy of abortion reversal is clear. We will continue to fight for our state’s women and their unborn babies. Thank you for taking action and praying. Our work is not in vain.

Colorado was founded on a motto that encourages us to continue in the fight: “Nothing but by Providence.” Psalms 85:12 reminds us, “Truth will spring up from the earth, and justice will look down from heaven.” Please pray with Concerned Women for America of Colorado for a move of the Holy Spirit on the Colorado Capitol.

Thank you!

Take Action on a Good Prolife Bill

By | Colorado | No Comments

“The time has come to turn to God and reassert our trust in Him for the healing of America …”
Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United State

A good prolife bill, HB23-1150, the Abortion Pill Reversal Information Act, has been introduced by Rep Scott Bottoms (R-District 15). The bill “requires a physician or other qualified medical professional to provide state-prepared information concerning abortion pill reversal to any woman seeking an abortion through the use of an abortion-inducing drug.”

Women are strong and capable and should have the right to know, if they change their mind after taking the first abortion pill, that they may be able to reverse the chemical abortion procedure. Women should have the right to complete information regarding their health decisions to make informed choices. The concept of “choice” and “rights” must go both ways. Those who support a woman’s right to an abortion should have no problem supporting a woman’s right to change her mind about an abortion.

HB23-1150 has been assigned to the Health and Insurance Committee. The committee is expected to hear the bill this in the coming week. It is important that the Chairman and members of the committee hear from you.

ACTION: Contact the members of the House Health and Insurance Committee and ask them to vote yes on HB23-1150. The committee contact information is listed below my signature. If you are a member of CWA of Colorado, be sure to let them know.

Please forward this information to family and friends.

Please PRAY: Father God, we give thanks for another day of life. We give thanks for Rep. Scott Bottoms and his courage to file HB23-1150. We pray for the Colorado House Committee and their handling of this legislation. We pray that the committee members will not be overcome with timidity and “political correctness” and will handle this issue with wisdom and courage. In Jesus’ name, we pray, AMEN.

Women’s Rights in Athletics – Calls Needed!

By | Colorado | No Comments

“So, God Created man in His own image, in the image of God, He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27

HB23-1098, a bill to help ensure fairness in women’s sports, has been introduced by
State Rep. Lisa Frizell (R-District 45).
HB23-1098 has been assigned to the House State, Civic, Military, and Veterans Affairs Committee. The committee is expected to hear HB23-1098 in the coming week. It is important that the Chairman and members of the committee hear from you.

Fair competition and equality in women’s sports are being threatened, and this legislation will combat that. Individual male born athletes should not be eligible to participate on an athletic team that is exclusively for females – from kindergarten to high school to college.

Many biological girls train and work hard to excel in their chosen sport with the goal of a college scholarship. When a biological boy who thinks he’s a girl is allowed to compete with the biological girls because of his natural endurance and strength, he steals the prize. This ought not to be so.

Read CWA’s Protecting Women’s Sports CWA Fact Sheet 2022.

ACTION: Contact the members of the House State, Civic, Military, and Veterans Affairs Committee and ask them to vote yes on HB23-1098. The committee contact information is listed below my signature. If you are a member of CWA of Colorado, be sure to let them know.

Please forward this information to family and friends.

Please PRAY: Father God, we give thanks for another day of life. We give thanks for Rep. Lisa Frizell and her willingness to file HB23-1098. We pray for the Colorado House Committee and their handling of this legislation. We pray that the committee members will not be overcome with timidity and “political correctness” and will handle this issue with wisdom and courage. In Jesus’ name, we pray, AMEN.

Looking Forward to a Great Year!

By | Colorado | No Comments

As we jump into 2023, we must be aware of God’s timing and ways, even when we do not understand. We continue to rejoice over last year’s Supreme Court decisions, like the ending of Roe v Wade and the Coach Kennedy decision. God answers prayer!

I am encouraged to have our new Legislative Liaison, Linda English, on our team. Linda and I have begun meeting with key legislators to discuss CWA of Colorado’s legislative priorities for the 2023 legislative session. A top priority is advocating for a state-level life.gov portal that would provide comprehensive information about public and private resources available to mothers with unexpected pregnancies. We covet your prayers as we seek to move the needle on life in Colorado.

We are growing our footprint of influence in Colorado, and I invite you to join us in our work. Partner with CWA to promote Biblical values and Constitutional principles in Colorado by starting a Prayer/Action Chapter in your area. For more information about starting a Chapter, please contact me at 303-903-5283 or [email protected]. I look forward to talking with you!

CWA grew out of the faithful prayers of women and men like you. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 reminds us:

“The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living…this is the way our Savior wants us to live.” (MSG)

Thank you for praying for our state and nation.

CWA of Colorado Welcomes New Legislative Liaison

By | Colorado | No Comments

Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Colorado would like to welcome our new Legislative Liaison, Linda English. Linda joined the CWA of Colorado leadership team as a Prayer/Action Chapter Leader and looks forward to engaging on the legislative front on bills aligned with CWA’s core issues.

Linda is active in the pro-life movement and has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the “woke” policies of her local school board. Linda’s business background and strong analytical mind will serve CWA of Colorado well at the State Capitol.

Linda lives in Larkspur, Colorado. She is married to her husband, Randy, and they have four children and grandchildren.

A note from Linda: “To do nothing when you see injustice and unrighteousness is not an option. Jesus gave us the authority in His name to pray and proclaim His Word over our state and nation. I look forward to joining State Director Karen Pennington in Denver as we seek to influence legislation that matters to God through prayer, education, and action.”

Remain Encouraged

By | Colorado | No Comments

Greetings from Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Colorado. CWA volunteers from around the country spent a week in Georgia going door-to-door, encouraging Georgians to vote in the December 6 senate run-off race. Colorado was represented as I canvassed with CWA. The election results were not as we desired – sending a pro-abortion, anti-family Senator back to Washington, D.C. However, we must be aware of God’s timing and ways, even when we do not understand.

We remain encouraged that God is still on His throne, and He sees all. Psalms 87:5 reads: “Truth will spring up from the earth, and justice will rain down from heaven.” (TLV)

As 2022 closes, remember that CWA of Colorado is committed to following God’s call, and through prayer and action, we will find hope in God for the road ahead!

God Bless you in 2023!

Giving Thanks

By | Colorado | No Comments

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
His love endures forever.
1 Chronicles 16:34

With the arrival of November and the soon celebration of Thanksgiving all across this great nation of ours, it is only fitting that I express my deep gratitude for you, and our CWA members.

2022 has been an amazing year of opportunity for Concerned Women of America (CWA) in Colorado. This open door in Colorado allows us to engage with our elected officials through the building of relationships as a result of prayer, office visits, telephone calls, emails, and work in the field. The Lord has made a way to increase awareness that CWA of Colorado desires to educate on the issues, pray over the issues, and act on those issues. Our CWA of Colorado Prayer Action Chapter Leaders across the state have received excellent training and are committed to making a difference in their individual communities due to your prayers and financial investment in our organization.

I would like to share a line from one of my favorite hymns. Andre Crouch sings it so well
My Tribute. “How can I say thanks for the things You have done…”

I would enjoy hearing from you during this Thanksgiving season. Feel free to reach out to me via email at [email protected] or give me a call at (303) 903 5283.

Giving thanks for you,

Encourage-A-Legislator Prayer Project – Colorado

Encourage-A-Legislator Program

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” – I Timothy 2:1-2

The Call to Prayer

I Timothy 2:1-2 instructs us to pray for our leaders. Concerned Women for America’s (CWA) Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL) program offers our members and friends the vehicle to do this in an easy and meaningful way. It ensures consistent prayer for each legislator, and it encourages and builds bridges with conservative legislators as well as those who do not normally agree with us.

Whether a legislator is a believer, non-believer, conservative, liberal, Democrat, Republican, independent, or other, they need our prayers. This next legislative session, CWA plans to deliver those prayers.

The Goal

The goal of the EAL program is to encourage each member of the State House and Senate by praying for them on a regular basis and sending them a postcard throughout the legislative session

The EAL program is never used to lobby and, therefore, is never confrontational. It is simply a great way to lift up those in authority and encourage them in their responsibilities.

The Commitment

We provide the name and address of the assigned legislator(s) and the postcards, and you commit to praying for your assigned legislator(s) daily, if possible, while the legislature is in session, and then mail an EAL postcard monthly until the conclusion of the five month session.

The Colorado Legislature

The 2023 Colorado Legislature is in session from January 9 till approximately May 8 and consists of 65 House members and 35 Senate members.

Answer the Call

Sign up today to be an encourager—it couldn’t be easier!  Sign up by contacting CWA of Colorado at 303-903-5283 or by email at [email protected] and provide them with your name and physical mailing address. Be sure to specify how many legislators you would like to encourage. They will then enlist you as an encourager and send you a packet of postcards and instructions in early January.

Spread the Word!

Please encourage your friends and family to sign up.

Consider making this a family project by involving your children.

Print and distribute information about this great opportunity to pray and encourage your state legislators. Click here for a printable push card. Print them double-sided on cardstock or order them through the contact information above.

Meet Karen Pennington – Colorado’s New State Director

By | Colorado, News and Events | No Comments

I am thrilled to introduce you to Karen Pennington, Concerned Women for America’s (CWA) new Colorado State Director. She first engaged with CWA in the late 1980s while attending a Colorado Prayer/Action Chapter as a young mother. In 2020, after becoming very concerned about the country and the lack of conservative female voices and intentional prayer in Colorado, Karen started a Prayer/Action Chapter to address the seven CWA core issues.

Karen is known for regularly speaking out at the county school board meetings on issues such as equity education, critical race theory, and charter schools. She recently rolled out a plan for churches that is a collaboration between local pregnancy centers and churches. It offers education to teens, women, and men suffering from unplanned pregnancy,  compromised sexual health, and past pregnancy decisions. Its purpose is to provide an opportunity to move to abundant life as described in John 10:10, “The thief does not come except to steal, kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Karen currently teaches as an affiliate professor for Regis University School of Nursing and Colorado Christian University Department of Nursing.

A note from Karen:

“I have come to understand more fully that prayer is a weapon we need to utilize more effectively to fight spiritual battles. With God’s grace and wisdom, I will bring a voice for Christian conservative women in public policy through CWA in Colorado and offer a Biblical perspective on current issues in the state’s political climate.”

A little bit more about Karen: She has spent the last 47 years in the medical field as an RN. Karen holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago and a Master’s Degree in Nursing Outcomes and a Ph.D. in Nursing Research and Philosophy of Science from the University of Colorado. She recently retired from Regis University-Denver, School of Nursing, after16 years as a Professor and Interim Dean of the School of Nursing. Karen resides in Parker, Colorado with her husband, Stephen.

Roe vs. Wade is Overturned! CWA of Colorado Responds

Concerned Women for America of Colorado
Applauds the SCOTUS Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade

Parker, Colorado – Colorado stands ready to welcome women and unborn children. Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Colorado calls on our citizens, members of the Colorado Legislature, and the Executive Branch to strongly support a culture of life that protects all.

CWA of Colorado State Director Karen Pennington, speaking for Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, has this to say concerning the Supreme Court Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision:

“The Supreme Court has finally overturned Roe. Thank you, Justices, for your tireless work on behalf of women and unborn children. Over 60 million unborn baby deaths later, the Court has finally recognized that states are free to protect life in the womb.

“It is up to us, the people of Colorado, to do our part. We must now work tirelessly to elect legislators and a governor who support the culture of life. Colorado now must stand ready to welcome women and unborn children by providing the support necessary for their wellbeing.

“The Dobbs decision will allow the citizens of Colorado to debate and discuss this issue with their state legislators. Decisions about abortion going forward will be made by Coloradoans, not by judges. That is something worth celebrating!”
