In her latest op-ed published in The Washington Examiner, Concerned Women for America Senior Advisor Doreen Denny exposes the lies being told to young girls that if they are dissatisfied with their bodies, they should become a boy. “We’re learning firsthand that the safety and dignity of youth, especially girls, identifying as the opposite sex is not the priority of the Biden Administration nor medical advocacy groups, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, and Big Pharma.” The piece reveals the procedures witnessed by a whistleblower at a “gender-affirming clinic” who called it “morally and medically appalling.”
Last year, Detransition Awareness Day on March 12 (the second of its kind) was a breakout moment for a movement exposing the exponential trend of young people “identifying” as the opposite sex. Helena Kirschner was among the first in the U.S. to tell her story of being captured in the cult of gender identity deception and a medical industry all too eager to assist with destructive chemical and surgical treatments. Her courage led to others like Chloe Cole speaking out and directly challenging medical organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics promoting so-called “gender affirming care.”
Over the past year, the “detrans” movement has been a breakthrough force propelling lawmakers across the U.S. to act on legislation banning the use of damaging puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and sex-change surgeries on minors struggling with identity. Already this year, four states – Utah, South Dakota, Mississippi, and Tennessee – have acted to protect minors from this destructive approach to a crisis in mental health, especially among teen girls, adding to previous actions in five others: Arkansas, Alabama, Arizona, Florida, and Texas. Many other state legislatures are moving bills forward.
Despite liberal media outlets suppressing their voices, the heart-wrenching stories of depressed teen girls caught in the social deception of gender ideology are forcing a reevaluation of practices and legislative initiatives at the state and federal levels. They are also emboldening whistleblowers like Jamie Reed, a queer transgender clinic case worker in Missouri, to come forward, prompting investigations of children’s hospital gender clinics.
An article in The Economist reporting on the first legal action in the U.S. by a detransitioner – a lawsuit against medical provider Kaiser Permanente for medical negligence – captures the important moment we are experiencing. Teens harmed by a complicit, unethical medical establishment are the tip of the spear for turning the tide. A similar case involving Keira Bell was the pivotal moment in the United Kingdom that led to the closing of the Tavistock Clinic, the pioneering pediatric center promoting destructive “gender affirming care.” Even liberal media like The New York Times can no longer ignore the truth.
Join Concerned Women for America in recognizing Detransition Awareness Day on March 12, 2023, as an opportunity to educate others on the truth about gender ideology, how it is infecting the minds of youth, and how institutions are peddling this deception.

South Dakota Bans Sex Changes for Children
Gov. Kristi Noem Signs “Help Not Harm” Bill into Law
Washington, D.C. – Today, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC), the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization, praised South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem for signing H.B.1080, the “Help Not Harm” bill which would ban doctors from prescribing puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgical interventions for minors.
“We are grateful to Kristi Noem for signing the ‘Help Not Harm’ bill. No more will children in South Dakota be subjected to so-called ‘treatments’ that ruin their lives,” said Linda Schauer, CWA of South Dakota State Director. “We appreciate Gov. Noem’s leadership and look forward to other states protecting their children as well. Hopefully, our nation will look back at this episode as a dark stain on our history.”
South Dakota is the second state this year to adopt policies that will prevent harmful surgeries and experimental drugs from being administered to children who have expressed a desire to transition to the opposite sex, bringing the total to seven states with these protections. Several others are moving forward.
“Our children are vulnerable and impressionable, and they deserve protection. Thank you, Gov. Noem, for protecting them,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President of CWALAC. “Puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery don’t solve the depression, anxiety, and confusion children are experiencing, they aggravate it and can cause irreversible harm. Doctors are in place to care for and help children, not harm them. Our hope is that many states will look to South Dakota as an example and follow in their footsteps.”
CWALAC has been at the very forefront of this battle for our nation’s children by urging legislators and lawmakers to protect children in the medical field and hold those healthcare professionals abusing their position accountable.

Whistleblower Exposes Harm to Children Committed by “Transgender Clinics” and Medical Facilities
Mutilating drugs and surgeries are irreversibly damaging
Washington, D.C. – Today, a former youth transgender clinic case manager in St. Louis revealed the horrifying truth taking place at “transgender clinics” and medical care facilities around the country. Jamie Reed, a self-described “queer woman” and a liberal, told her story to The Free Press, saying, “I Thought I Was Saving Trans Kids. Now I’m Blowing the Whistle.”
Reed, who worked at The Washington University Transgender Clinic at St. Louis Children’s Medical Hospital, explains that the treatment she saw there was “morally and medically appalling.” She said that there were few protocols for treating patients and that they had a variety of disorders, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, eating disorders, obesity, and autism. Yet, doctors pushed treatments that result in “life-altering consequences including sterility.”
“This is the wake-up call America needs that no politician or responsible media outlet can ignore,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America, the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization. “These same health-destroying practices are happening in children’s hospitals across the country and are the reason so many state legislatures are working to block the use of mutilating drugs and surgeries ‘permanently harming’ vulnerable youth. Reed’s first-hand account is every reason to shut down the transactivism infecting our country peddled by the American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Big Pharma, corporate America, and the Biden Administration. Now is the time for courage, like Ms. Reed has displayed, to challenge this madness.”
In his State of the Union address on Tuesday, President Biden called on Congress to pass the Equality Act “to ensure LGBTQ Americans, especially transgender young people, can live with safety and dignity.”
“There is nothing safe or dignified about disfiguring and mutilating children’s bodies,” says Nance. “Even more disturbing in Reed’s story is that this ‘transitioning’ trend is a social contagion and doctors know it. They also know that children can’t make decisions about medical care at such ages and any parent who pushes this on their child should be prosecuted for child abuse.”
Concerned Women for America is challenging that the “safety and dignity” of youth with gender dysphoria is the outcome of medical activism embracing gender ideology and the rabid promotion of transgenderism in our culture through social media, drag shows, school curriculum, secret gender support plans, and pediatric gender clinics. And this brave whistleblower makes the case.

Child Safety Advocates Call on South Dakota Gov. Noem
to Investigate State-Funded Health Activities that Promote Gender Transition

Washington, D.C. – Today, a coalition of national policy leaders and child safety advocates sent a letter to South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem calling on her to investigate state taxpayer-funded health and education grants, contracts, and activities that promote gender identity and transition. Gov. Noem recently canceled the state’s contract with “The Transformation Project” after learning of the upcoming January 13 “3rd Annual Midwest Gender Identity Summit” in Sioux Falls. One of the largest healthcare providers in the country, Sanford Health, is sponsoring this summit.
Signed by national leaders, including Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America, the country’s largest public policy women’s organization, the letter expresses grave concern over the agenda of the summit promoting transgender ideology and harming children and the practices of health organizations like Sanford Health who are harming children with medical procedures that mutilate their bodies.
“The citizens of South Dakota deserve to have their children protected from this summit’s destructive ideology,” reads the letter. “When a once-trusted health system like Sanford Health aids and abets this deceptive and anti-child ideology, it has failed in its mission.
“Children struggling with gender confusion should be protected from unethical medical interventions that ignore underlying causes and reject long-term health and well-being. Puberty blocking drugs that carry severe FDA warnings, cross-sex hormones that sterilize, and damaging surgeries that result in serious comorbidities and regret should not be peddled by Sanford Health.”
The letter commends Gov. Noem for directing her Department of Health to end its contract with the “The Transformation Project” but asks her to investigate further into healthcare companies’ practices in providing “transition” services.
“We call on you to take action as Governor of South Dakota and set an example to others to stop this pernicious trend deceiving our youth today,” the letter reads. “Telling kids they may be born in the wrong body is a self-destructive prophecy that is inflicting countless wounds on youth today. The corporate interests tied up in this increasingly lucrative industry are preying on America’s youth. Sanford Health will be among these predators if this event goes forward.”

Penny Nance statement on American Girl’s book pushing puberty blockers:
“Shame on American Girl for teaching girls as young as three years old to hate their bodies. What happened to teaching girls that they are beautiful just the way they are?” asked Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America, the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization. “Advocating that young girls consider altering their bodies through puberty blockers or surgery exploits vulnerable and impressionable children. In the same way that it would be dangerous to tell a young, underweight girl struggling with an eating disorder to consider gastric bypass surgery, why are we encouraging a young girl struggling with her female identity to mutilate her body? There used to be a time when parents trusted corporations like a doll company to send positive messages to their daughters, but unfortunately those days are gone. Parents need to stop buying goods from woke corporations pushing this dangerous and manipulative agenda on their children.”

American Academy of Pediatrics are failing America’s families
Pushing “Gender-affirming Care” Risks Health of Children
Washington, D.C. – As the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) meets this weekend in Anaheim, California for its annual convention, Concerned Women for America (CWA), the nation’s largest women’s public policy organization representing women and families of all ages across every state in America, blasts AAP leadership for pushing radical experimental “gender-affirming” practices.
In a letter sent to the AAP’s President and President-elect, Concerned Women for America CEO and President Penny Nance questions its practices amid controversy over a resolution from member pediatricians demanding the AAP review research standards of treating children questioning their identity.
“Under your leadership, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is failing children, adolescents, parents, and families,” reads the letter. “Your disregard for the mental, emotional, and physical harm of gender ideology being forced on children is evidenced by the alarming trend in so-called ‘gender affirming care.’ Pediatricians are trusted physicians for parents of a newborn child. Like any mother and father, they should know that babies are fully formed male or female humans, not ‘born in the wrong body.’ Any case of an intersex condition or disorder of sexual development is exceedingly rare.
“As doctors sworn to do no harm, it is tragic that you are on the side of defending harm to children. Your organization promotes the use of unapproved puberty-blocking drugs to slow the normal healthy development of a children’s body, bones, and brain for “gender exploration. These drugs have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration who has warned of serious side effects, including swelling of the brain, vision loss, and suicide ideation.
“Pediatricians should know that natural maturation is a critical part of a child’s health and well-being. Doctors who understand normal childhood development should know it is better allow children to grow up with a healthy body intact, not mutilate a child’s body to conform to his or her developing mind – which is not fully developed until after the pediatric years,” the letter reads.
Most alarming, the American Academy of Pediatrics is failing to allow any rigorous challenge to today’s destructive prevailing orthodoxy about so-called “gender affirming care.”
Nance’s letter cites the hypocrisy of AAP President Dr. Moira Szilagyi’s claim in The Wall Street Journal that “It doesn’t push medical treatments or surgery; for the vast majority of children, it recommends the opposite.” A Reuters special report has revealed a skyrocketing rise in use of puberty blockers and hormones, as well as mutilating surgeries. From 2019-21, 776 double mastectomies were performed on 13–17-year-old girls under the banner of “gender affirming care.”

Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has proposed a rule to redefine “sex” to include “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” and “termination of pregnancy” in Section 1557 of Obamacare and other federal health programs. Like Title IX in education, the Biden Administration wants to force its abortion and gender ideology agenda through a rewrite of sex discrimination rules in American health care.

Act Now: CWA Action Center to Oppose the Biden LGBTQ Health Care Rule
Concerned Women for America strongly opposes Biden’s nefarious agenda that will force health care providers and insurers to cover abortion and “gender affirming care,” including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and destructive surgeries like double mastectomies on teen girls distressed by their developing bodies.
Nowhere in federal law is sex discrimination defined to cover abortion or abusive gender transition treatments on children. For ethical doctors, these procedures are not “health care;” they are violations of an oath to “do no harm” and sound medical practice.

As students return to classrooms, Biden’s LGBTQ Title IX Rule is on a fast track to enshrine a destructive rewrite of the meaning of “sex” into our nation’s civil rights laws that will force every school to indoctrinate students in “gender identity” ideology or face charges of sexual harassment and discrimination.
Watch this brief video, The Hijacking of Title IX, to learn more about what is happening in schools that Biden’s Rule will make permanent and take action.
Transactivist groups are working overtime to flood the Department of Education with comments demanding that this rule be finalized as written. They know if civil rights laws rewrite the meaning of “sex” to include sexual orientation and gender identity, every school will be expected to promote the PRIDE agenda of LGBTQ activists, teach the “gender unicorn” and homosexual attraction in curriculum, and force girls to share restrooms, locker rooms, and their sports teams with any boy who declares he is a girl. Teenage girls struggling with body changes will be encouraged to trans-identify by taking testosterone and removing their breasts to appear masculine.
This radical agenda will become the priority of our education system. The sword of Biden’s trans mandate will hijack the original intent of Title IX to protect women’s rights to equal opportunities in education. It will unleash a tyranny of indoctrination in our schools at every level of education, requiring them to affirm unlimited “sexual and gender identities,” self-declared “pronouns,” and secret “gender support plans” shielded from parental view.
Comments opposing Biden’s radical rewrite of Title IX are the only way to prevent Biden’s LGBTQ Rule from becoming the law in every state. Every comment received before the September 12 deadline counts!

Radical gender ideology has a chokehold on the very institutions that are meant to protect, educate, and uplift our children. Now more than ever, it is critical that parents are aware of the issues their children are facing and the permanent changes these mystery drugs being pushed on them can inflict. Our very own Vice President of Government Relations, Doreen Denny, sat back down with Star Parker to unpack exactly what this means and how people of faith must activate to fight back.

By Doreen Denny, Vice President of Government Relations
In the past two weeks, we have seen significant progress in the fight against radical gender ideology in the states. Importantly, many state legislatures are embracing these debates generating greater awareness of the realities and harms at stake. They are also underscoring the necessity of having governors of courage.
Last week, Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-Arkansas) joined Gov. Tate Reeves (R-Mississippi) in signing the “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act” into law. These are notable victories following Idaho’s enactment of the first such bill last year signed by Gov. Eric Little (R-Idaho) and immediately challenged, as expected, in a lawsuit leveled by the ACLU.
Gov. Kristi Noem (R-South Dakota) did the opposite. She responded to the passage of a popular House Bill promoting continued fairness in women’s sports with a “form and style” veto capitulating to noisy activists and dubious NCAA threats. Noem demanded the South Dakota legislature rewrite big portions of the bill, including removing protections for college women athletes. By putting a price tag on winning her signature, she effectively torpedoed the bill causing female athletes in her state to lose out.
Big majorities of the public agree on protecting women’s sports for female athletes, so why the fear? Assuring fair play for women and girls based on biological sex, not gender identity, should be something on which we can all agree. It should be a matter of biological fact, physiological advantage, and basic civil rights, not partisanship or political activism. Male athletes should not be competing in women’s sports, regardless of how they identify.
The governor’s surrender in South Dakota contrasted acts of courage by governors in Mississippi and Arkansas. It will take governors of courage across America to turn the tide toward regaining women’s rights as athletes and against hyped threats from left-wing activists, the ACLU, NCAA, woke corporations, and the Biden-Harris administration, which has thrown the gauntlet further. More governors may have the opportunity to make this choice in the coming weeks.
Women’s sports is not the only place radical gender ideology has taken root. It is also happening on social media, in school counseling offices, and in transgender pediatric clinics where children and youth are only affirmed in their self-declared “gender identities” with irreversible medical and surgical treatments. It takes courage to stand against the Big Gender interests behind this craze damaging our daughters.
This week, Gov. Hutchinson acted in opposite fashion on the issue of protecting children from transgender promotion. Hutchinson vetoed a bill called the Save Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act which would prevent experimental gender treatments and surgeries on minors, citing “government overreach” (even though many government laws shield the health and safety of children from harm). A veto-proof majority had passed the measure in both Arkansas chambers and quickly chided the governor’s retreat by overriding his veto. We applaud their courage to lead and enact the first child protection bill of its kind in the nation.
A greedy and negligent medical industry is shrouding the truth about the rising incidence of gender dysphoria, disregarding the reckless and harmful nature of treatment and denying children, who have no capacity for informed consent, the ability to grow up and out of dysphoric conditions. Instead, medical activists tell parents it is the “standard of care” and the best way to deal with gender-confusion and depression. They compel life-altering decisions that stop normal development and place children on a never-ending road of opposite sex hormone treatments that make empty promises about becoming the opposite sex – a scientific impossibility.
South Dakota was in a similar battle last year where the same governor postured concern instead of conviction over what it sought to address: the serious damage to children being inflicted by promoters of transgender medical experiments on youth. She aided the bill’s defeat in a Senate committee.
Courageous leaders in Congress are joining legislators in other states in protecting women’s sports and protecting children, most notably in South Carolina, where Democrat Representative Cezar McKnight is spearheading a bipartisan bill, the “South Carolina Vulnerable Child Compassion and Protection Act,” to shield children from reckless transgender treatment. These leaders need encouragement for their courageous stand.
Concerned Women for America is committed to our role in educating policymakers and citizens on these issues and being a voice of courage standing against radical gender ideology as a promise to America’s children. Our prayer is that all governors will respond to the momentum in their states on these serious issues confronting our culture by standing for truth, at such a time as this, and leading the way.
The “Equality Act” (H.R. 5) just passed a Democrat-controlled House of Representatives for the second time, but for opponents, including Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC), the latest result offers encouraging signs. This time, the deceptively-named Equality Act – proposing a revolutionary redefinition of sex in federal civil rights law with far-reaching and harmful implications for women, children, and people of faith – received only three Republican votes (less than half of the eight cast in 2019).
More are coming to see how radical gender ideology endangers children’s minds, bodies, and relationships with their parents—and the Equality Act would cement it into law.
Democrats bypassed any congressional hearings and denied any amendments, flexing their power muscle to force a vote but also fearing too much scrutiny. Republicans were ready to speak with conviction and clarity against the extremism of the bill.
As Penny Nance, CEO and President, said in a statement, “The gender ideology of the elitist left erases the ability to differentiate between men and women and denies the harm this inflicts on women and children. Democrats should fear any examination of the real impact of the ‘Equality Act’ because Americans reject its destructive agenda.”
As the Equality Act was being debated on the House floor, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) was questioning President Biden’s HHS nominee, Dr. Rachel Levine, in a Senate committee hearing. Dr. Levine, who is transgender, has promoted the use of gender transition medical treatments and surgeries on minors. Sen. Paul’s questions emphasized the reckless approach of gender affirmation ideology that freely administers damaging and irreversible medical transition treatments on children who self-declare a desire for a sex change. Please watch this clip and share this shocking exchange that shows what’s at stake in the Equality Act.
Rising against these threats, the Promise to America’s Children initiative has launched. The Promise recognizes that our children are most at risk of harm in a culture sowing gender confusion and chaos. It frames the conflict and the solutions in this context: protecting children’s minds, protecting children’s bodies, and protecting children’s relationships with their parents. The 10-point Promise identifies principles that should guide policy and advocacy. It equips and invites others to take a stand against the harms of radical gender ideology endangering our children. It provides model legislation for policymakers.
Concerned Women for America is participating with the Heritage Foundation, Alliance Defending Freedom, and others as a national partner in this important movement. State legislators are signing the Promise and taking action by sponsoring legislation. Parents, citizens, and policymakers are encouraged to sign the Promise and take action in their schools and communities.
In endorsing the Promise to America’s Children, Penny Nance declared,
“America’s children are our most precious gifts. Concerned Women for America believes that as parents and leaders, it is our duty to protect their minds, bodies, and souls – all of which are under attack by a radical sexual agenda …. CWA supports the Promise to America’s Children so that our daughters and granddaughters will be assured of fairness on the playing field and bodily privacy and dignity in intimate spaces. I call upon lawmakers and other leaders to sign this pledge and commit to defending our children both personally and in the public square.”
Join the movement to protect our children and defeat the Equality Act, which is now moving to the Senate. We need every concerned citizen to rise to the challenge facing our culture through prayer AND action. Check how your Representative voted on the Equality Act here, and please contact your U.S. Senators and urge them to oppose the Equality Act through our Action Center today!
