With Less Than a Week to Go, Find Out What Legislation Needs Your Prayers and Action

With less than a week to go in the state legislative session, it is important to contact your Illinois lawmakers on pending legislation NOW!  These bills could be voted on any day.  Your legislator needs to know where you stand on these issues.  Surprisingly, several conservative lawmakers are on the fence about what would seem to be a ‘no brainer’ to their constituents.  Unfortunately, this may be because they are only hearing from constituents who critically oppose where they stand on legislation.  They need your support. They need to hear YOUR VOICE.

First, let’s celebrate the good news!

GOOD NEWS! The Equal Rights Amendment Will Not Be Voted On This Session!

After 16 attempts, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is dead for this session.  Pray it has breathed its last in Illinois.  Click here for more information about the ERA and why we adamantly oppose it.

GOOD NEWS! Recreational Marijuana Will Not Be Voted On This Session!

SB 316 (Amendment 1) and HB 2353 (Amendment 1) to legalize recreational marijuana are dead this session.

Pending legislation that needs your attention immediately:

Falsifying Birth Certificate Legislation

Update: HB 1785 passed out of the House yesterday and is now awaiting a vote in the Senate. Six republican House members crossed the aisle and voted with fifty-seven democrats to amend the Vital Records Act. These six republicans are Steve Anderson (Geneva), “Leader” Jim Durkin (Burr Ridge), Sara Jimenez (Springfield), David Olsen (Downers Grove), Bob Pritchard (Sycamore), and Grant Wehrli (Naperville). This bill allows gender-dysphoric persons to change their gender on their birth certificate with a declaration from a health care worker or mental health professional that states the person has undergone “gender transition treatment.” (“Treatments” for gender dysphoria includes cross-sex hormones and gender-change surgery.  Fact: social/legal/physical transition cannot change a person’s biological sex. Click here for a great CWA resource on this issue, Since When are Feelings > Fact.)

Take Action: Please contact your state senator today! Ask him/her to uphold birth certificates as legal documents by opposing alteration.  Ask him/her to vote “NO” on HB 1785 and be sure to let him/her know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Illinois.  If you know who your senator is, click here to find their contact information. If you don’t know who your representative is, click here to find out their name and contact information.

Taxpayer Funded Abortion Bill is Still on Gov. Rauner’s Desk

As we have previously reported, HB 40 passed both the House and Senate and is on Gov. Bruce Rauner’s desk.  He has 60 days (until July 9) to keep his pledge to veto the bill. If he does nothing, it automatically becomes law, and we as taxpayers will be funding abortions.

Take Action: Please contact Gov. Rauner and remind him that he promised to veto HB 40 and let him know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Illinois.

Praise and Prayer: Please take a moment to praise the Lord for the two victories and then pray that our lawmakers will make the right decision regarding HB 1785 and HB 40.

One More Action Item: Forward this alert now to everyone you know, especially your pastor and members of your congregation.
