MEDIA ADVISORY:

Missouri Bans Sex Changes for Minors, Boys from Playing in Female Sports

Gov. Mike Parson Signs Bills Protecting Children from These Harmful Trends

Washington, D.C. – Today, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) and Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Missouri praised Republican Gov. Mike Parson for signing a bill preventing minors in Missouri from accessing puberty blockers, hormones, and surgeries that can alter their bodies irreparably.

St Louis Children’s Hospital became a focus of national attention when a former caseworker at its Washington University Transgender Center, Jamie Reed, went public with practices she described as “morally and medically appalling.” Beginning August 28, Missouri healthcare providers won’t be able to prescribe these harmful treatments for teens and children.

Gov. Parson also signed legislation that would ban biological men from playing on female sports teams from kindergarten through college.

“We are grateful to Gov. Parson for protecting children from both the physical and mental harm of gender transition surgery,” says Tracy Dougan, CWA of Missouri State Director. “We also applaud the Governor for protecting our Missouri female athletes, who will no longer have to feel the threat of having their dreams dashed by males identifying as females who seek to infiltrate female sports to steal trophies and scholarships.”

Missouri is the 20th state to adopt policies that will prevent harmful surgeries and experimental drugs from being administered to vulnerable children expressing a desire to transition to the opposite sex. The Show Me state becomes the 22nd state to enact laws protecting women’s sports for female athletes.

“Our children are vulnerable and impressionable, and they deserve protection. Thank you, Gov. Parson, for doing so,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President of CWALAC. “Puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery don’t solve the confusion children are experiencing; they aggravate it and can do irreversible harm. And, young female athletes need to be affirmed, not have their trophies stolen by boys who claim to identify as girls.”

Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee has been at the very forefront of this battle for our nation’s children by urging legislators and lawmakers to protect children in the medical field and hold those healthcare professionals abusing their position accountable.
