Join CWA in Opposing Biden’s LGBTQ Title IX Rule

By | Barrett, News and Events, Sexual Exploitation, Women's Sports | No Comments

The U.S. Department of Education has officially released the Biden Title IX Rule for public comment, and it is even worse than expected. Title IX was supposed to protect women and girls from discrimination on the basis of sex. Not anymore.

Instead of upholding sex discrimination on the basis of male and female biology, Biden’s Title IX Rule imposes LGBTQ identities as the basis for sex discrimination. Under the fancy title, “Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance,” Biden’s Department of Education proposes to rewrite federal civil rights law turning our schools into laboratories for promoting sex and gender ideology at the expense of women and girls.

Here are some of the major changes to Title IX in the Biden LGBTQ Rule:

“Gender Identity” is now “Sex”

  • Rejects that “sex” is defined as biologically male or female:  “on the basis of sex includes discrimination on the basis of sex stereotypes, sex characteristics, pregnancy or related conditions, sexual orientation, and gender identity.” This is a radical rewrite of the basic federal law on sex discrimination that Congress has NEVER authorized.
  • Schools must affirm and accommodate students on the basis of “gender identity” – using preferred names and pronouns and “gender support plans” without parental consent. This “gender identity” mandate extends to all programs and activities, including locker rooms, restrooms, rape crisis centers, housing, athletic programs, and more.
  • Female students lose their rights.  Protecting girls will now be in direct conflict with the “gender identity” mandate giving males self-identifying as girls the right to take their place.  As students and athletes, our daughters deserve to have the law on their side, not against them.

School Personnel can be “Parents”

  • A new definition of “Parental Status” empowers school personnel to act “in loco parentis” (in place of parents). Parental rights could be overruled by Title IX policy barring sex discrimination. Schools could withhold information from parents about their child’s “identity” at school.

Abortion = Pregnancy

  • A new definition of “Pregnancy or Related Conditions” gives abortion the same status as childbearing.  Schools would be required to provide support and services for “termination of pregnancy.” Any activity that promotes choosing life for an unborn child could be banned.

Biden’s Title IX Rule also overrules any state law protecting women and children from the harmful impact of gender ideology and requires all educational institutions to enforce an extreme LGBTQ agenda in our schools against the rights of parents, students, and teachers.

  • Any student or teacher who holds a traditional view of marriage, the scientific meaning of sex, or the value of unborn human life could be charged with sex-based harassment.

Join CWA in opposing Biden’s Title IX Rule. Now is the time to make your voice heard! Tell the U.S. Department of Education you oppose this radical rewrite of rules redefining “sex” and mandating that schools cater to the extreme LGBTQ agenda, causing harm to children and stripping parents of their rights to protect their children from sexual indoctrination.

Visit CWA’s Title IX Action Center to send your comment directly to the U.S. Department of Education today.

  1. Provide your views on one or more issues in the Biden Title IX Rule which radically rewrites the meaning and scope of sex discrimination in federal law.
  2. Challenge the Dept. of Education with questions about the cost, confusion, and impact of overturning protections based on biological sex in federal law.

Justice Barrett Win Should Remind You of the Importance of Your Vote

By | Barrett, News and Events, RBG, SCOTUS | No Comments

Now that Amy Coney Barrett has been sworn in as the 115th justice of the United States Supreme Court, I hope you realize the importance of your vote this coming November 3. There was a time when the U.S. Senate would have confirmed Justice Barrett unanimously. That was the way Justice Antonin Scalia, her mentor, was confirmed, 98–0. By contrast, Justice Barrett was confirmed 52-48. She would have never been confirmed if just a few seats were turned.

This must become a matter of prayer for us as we focus our attention these last few days. Let us pray, not only for the outcome but also that those who are elected would choose justice over partisan bickering.

Republicans control the Senate right now 53-47. Democrats would need to pick up four seats to become the majority. There are 34 Senate seats up for a vote. Of those 34 seats, 22 are Republican, and only 12 Democrats.

Right now, Real Clear Politics has nine races as toss-ups— seven Republicans and just two Democrats. It further has five leaning to remain Republican and three leaning Democrat, with one of them being a pickup from a Republican seat.

As you can see, there is a lot still up in the air as far as the United States Senate’s makeup which will have significant implications for the confirmation of judges.

President Donald J. Trump has had historic victories in appointing constitutionalists to federal courts. Still, the gains would not have been possible without a Senate committed to the swift confirmation of qualified nominees.

The number of cloture votes, which used to be rare in judicial confirmations, and which are practically meant merely to slow down nominees, have surged under today’s hyper-political climate. Seventy-seven percent of President Trump’s judicial nominees were forced to go through a cloture vote. Compare that to just 2.9 percent for President Barack Obama.

Every way you look at it indicates to us that U.S. Senate races are crucial to justice. The media’s focus on the presidential race is, of course, warranted. The two candidates have very different and contrasting plans for our country.

But we must not forget that even in some of the areas where they are promising to do this or that, they will need Congress to act before they can do anything.  In the case of judicial nominations, they will need the Senate to exercise its “advise and consent” role.

One troubling idea that is being pushed by the radical left, namely to pack the Supreme Court by expanding the number of justices, would require the House of Representatives and the Senate to pass legislation for the president to sign.

Packing the Court would be damaging to an institution that relies on its institutional legitimacy for its role in our form of government. This is why most elected officials, including Democrats, have opposed the idea for decades. Even Vice President Biden has said we would “live to rue the day” if the Supreme Court was expanded.

Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt actually tried to pack the Court in 1937, but he failed when many in his own party opposed him, saying he would turn it into a political weapon.

The American people also reject court-packing. This is why today, Vice President Biden has been reluctant to speak of the plan publicly. He has famously said he will answer the question “when the election is over” which is troubling in its own right.

Many have taken that to mean he will do it. If that is the case, he would need the support of a willing Senate to go along with the plan.

The bottom line is, we must keep the U.S. Senate in focus as we head into Election Day.

Confirmed and Sworn In!

Friends,

Congratulations! Your support and engagement have now helped confirm Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court. She was just confirmed by a vote of 52-48 and sworn in by Justice Clarence Thomas. What a picture of hope for our country to see her raise her hand and take her oath from another constitutionalist at the Court.

Our Women for Amy Bus Tour is rejoicing! I want to thank those of you who took the time to come out to rally in support of Justice Barrett. We have a few more stops still, and they are bound to be the most joyous ones yet, as we celebrate this amazing victory.

Your engagement in this nomination will bear fruits for generations to come. Justice Barrett is not only a woman of great faith, integrity, and commitment to the Constitution, she is also now the youngest member of the Supreme Court.

This is a historic day for conservative women. Justice Barrett is an inspiration to millions of young conservative women who are witnessing a prime example of someone who reached the highest pinnacles of her profession without compromising her values.

But the task ahead will not be easy for Justice Barrett. The pressures will only increase as she takes her new position at the Court. So, let me encourage you to continue to keep her and her family in your prayers.

And remember to stay connected with us here at ConcernedWomen.org as we continue to stand together for freedom and justice in our land.

Historic Moment for Conservative Women, ACB Confirmed to the Supreme Court

Washington, D.C. – The United States Senate just confirmed Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court by a vote of 52-48. . Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC), had this to say:

“The conservative women I have been visiting all across the country in our ‘Women for Amy’ Bus Tour cheer loudly for this historic milestone for women.  Judge Barret is an inspiration to millions!

“A conservative, constitutionalist, pro-life woman at the Supreme Court is why we voted for Donald Trump. We congratulate Justice Barrett, and we are praying for her and her family. The task ahead will be a difficult one, but we have full confidence in her abilities as a jurist.

“We must also recognize the incredible job done by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham in cutting through the usual Washington antics and making sure Judge Barrett was given a fair confirmation process. This was not a given. The opposition tried to derail her, even though they knew she was more than qualified for the job. They opposed her for political reasons. But Senate leadership and Republicans in the Senate went to bat for the American people, and they delivered. A job well done.

“But ultimately, we must get back to the source of such a great addition to the Supreme Court: President Donald J. Trump. He has surpassed all our expectations when it comes to judicial nominations, and he has indeed delivered on making the judiciary great again.

“Americans will remember that going into this important election.”

Women for Amy Bus Tour Applauds Limiting Debate on Nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett

Penny Nance: “Conservative women across the country celebrate this victory over the religious bigotry of Democrats.”

Washington, D.C. –  In light of the Senate vote today to limit debate on the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, leaders of the Women for Amy Bus Tour eagerly anticipate a vote on her confirmation Monday evening.

Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC), made the following statement as she sets off on the final leg of the twelve-state Women for Amy Bus Tour.

“On the eve of the vote to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court, conservative women across the country celebrate this victory over the religious bigotry of Democrats. We applaud Senate Republicans for treating Judge Barrett with respect and moving ahead with her confirmation, despite the Democrats’ resisting their constitutional obligation on political grounds.

“Judge Barrett has demonstrated she has the skills, temperament, and qualifications to serve on the Supreme Court, yet Democrats are fighting her confirmation every step of the way.

“For a party that claims to promote the empowerment of women, Democrats are showing their true colors; they only support women who agree with their political ideology. All others are free to be treated with contempt, as they have done to Judge Barrett.”

This week, the Women for Amy Bus Tour makes stops in Texas and Arizona. For more information on the tour, please go to: https://concernedwomen.org/women-for-amy/

Send Victorious ACB to the Supreme Court

Prepared Remarks by Doreen Denny, Vice President of Government Relations

Confirm Amy Event Following Senate Judiciary Committee Vote Approving Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s Nomination to the U. S. Supreme Court

October 22, 2020

I’m here today on behalf of Penny Nance and all those participating with us as we ride our Women for Amy bus across America.

We’ve logged 3,200 miles since October 6 – starting in Georgia and South Carolina and rolling through South Bend, Indiana, and Iowa among other critical states. Today we’re headed to Texas then Arizona – another 1,500 miles to wrap up our 4-week, 12-state tour.

And I can report that in every place we’ve stopped women are excited and energized about Judge Barrett, soon to be Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

As Chairman Graham passionately stated: for conservative women, this confirmation is not just about breaking through a glass ceiling, it’s about busting through a reinforced concrete barrier.

Today’s Judiciary Committee action to send Amy Coney Barrett to the Senate for a final vote is a moonshot being witnessed by young conservative women across America who feel they are being censored by a cancel culture. They are wondering if there will ever be a seat at the table for them. Today, the answer is YES – You do not have to compromise your beliefs. Your voice matters. Stand tall and stand proud.

Our daughters, including my own, see in Judge Barrett the strength that comes when a woman of conviction thinks for herself, pursues excellence in her profession, and embraces the values of faith and family that are the unshakable foundations of her life.

We celebrate this moment as a milestone for conservative women who have experienced the disdain and bigotry of the left for far too long. We agree with Judge Barrett in upholding the foundation of our Constitution as the bedrock of our freedoms.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee) have played an important role representing our voice and values in this process, and we are especially grateful to have had them on the Judiciary Committee for this confirmation.

There is no woman in America more ready and more qualified to be wearing the robe of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court than Amy Coney Barrett. She will carry a banner for women of faith across America to the highest court.

Today’s boycott by Senate Democrats is nothing more than a political stunt. Americans know Amy Coney Barrett deserves to be confirmed based on her qualifications and her character. We urge all Senators to exercise their duty to advise and consent on that basis alone and vote YES on her confirmation.

The American people are waiting to receive a Victorious ACB on the Supreme Court with the same spirit they embraced the Notorious RBG.

Thank you.

Women for Amy Bus Tour Celebrates Committee Vote

Washington, D.C. – This morning, after Democrats opted to boycott the vote, the United States Senate Judiciary Committee voted favorably to send Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to be an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court to the full Senate.

Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC), had this to say, as she continues to lead the Women for Amy Bus Tour, currently traveling from McAlester, Oklahoma, to Fort Worth, Texas:

“Conservative Women all over this country are energized by the nomination of Judge Barrett to the Supreme Court; we are seeing it first-hand. They are celebrating her with every step she takes, against the tide, to trace her own path to the highest court in the land. What an inspiration she is to millions of young girls watching today. She gives us hope!

“We applaud Senate Republicans for treating her with respect and moving ahead with her confirmation, despite the Democrats’ temper tantrums. They should be ashamed of disrespecting this highly qualified nominee by not even showing up for blatant partisan political reasons. She deserves better.

“But they prove, once again, that they are not the party that promotes and respects women’s rights. They only support women who agree with their political ideology. All others are free to be treated with contempt, as they have done to Judge Barrett today.

“The good news is that, at the end of this process, they too will have to address her Justice Barrett, no matter the theatrics they employ today.”

Op-ed: Penny Nance: Judge Barrett Deserves Swift Supreme Court Confirmation

By | Barrett, News and Events, Press Releases, Special Feature | No Comments

Concerned Women for America’s CEO and President, Penny Nance, had this to say in her latest op-ed on the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, “Judge Barrett deserves a swift confirmation to the Supreme Court, as evidenced by her cross-party appeal nationwide, the endorsement of colleagues and friends from across the aisle, and an impressive appearance at her confirmation hearings.”

Hearing Recap and Next Steps for Amy Coney Barrett

By | Barrett, Judicial Nominations, LBB, Legal, News and Events, RBG | No Comments

To quote Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Amy Coney Barrett is “going to the Court.” The hearings are over, and she simply shined through it all. The most memorable moments included ACB schooling senators trying to challenge her on precedent and originalism and severability and textualism. She was the smartest person in the room. The moment when Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) asked her to show her notes went viral because it illustrated how exceptional she was as a nominee. Here is the clip:

But the most powerful testimony, showing us the type of person we are supporting for the Supreme Court was heard on the last day. It was the testimony of Laura Wolk, one of Judge Barrett’s law students and current Supreme Court clerk, who is blind. She explained the extraordinary help she received from ACB that made it possible for her to break down barriers in the legal profession.  Please watch:

These hearings were historic. The voices of conservative women were heard like never before, both inside and outside the hearing room.  Sen. Graham highlighted this with his remarks on day two. He said, “This hearing to me is an opportunity to not punch through a glass ceiling, but a reinforced concrete barrier around conservative women. You’re going to shatter that barrier. I’ve never been prouder of a nominee than I am of you.” Here is the expanded clip of his remarks:

Outside, as most of you know, the “Women for Amy” army made its mark, outshining the opposition.

The nomination will be held one week, as is customary, with some written questions and answers for the record submitted. Then a final committee vote is scheduled for October 22 at 1:00 p.m. It is expected to be 12-10, along party lines.

The nomination then will be sent to the full Senate where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) has said, “We’ll go to the floor with her on Friday, the 23rd, and stay on it until we finish this… We have the votes.”

A Week of Prayer for Judge Amy Coney Barrett

By | Barrett, CEO, News and Events | No Comments

Prayer and action lay at the foundation of Concerned Women for America (CWA). In many ways, they are intermingled. Prayer is action — the most powerful kind of action we take here at CWA. So, as we begin our work to support the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court, we want to take a week just before her Senate Judiciary Committee hearings commence on Monday, October 12, and pray for her nomination.

What follows is a seven-day prayer guide starting Monday, October 12, the first day of hearings and ending on Monday, October 19. We pray this is helpful to you and gets us in the proper mindset for the spiritual battle ahead.

I want to urge you to make this part of your daily devotion during this week. Justice is a spiritual matter. Jesus actually called it one of the “weightier matters of the law” (see Matthew 23:23). A quick word search on my Bible software rendered 125 verses using the Hebrew word for “justice.” There are forces working tirelessly to pervert justice who see Judge Barrett as a real threat to their schemes. Let us stand united in prayer asking God, above all, that His will be done.

Taking the approach laid out in Philippians 4:6-7, we are laying out “prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let[ting] [our] requests be made known to God.”

Thanksgiving: We thank You for preparing her for this moment. We thank You for this merciful opportunity to see a woman committed to justice and truth appointed to the nation’s highest court.

Request: Give her words of wisdom, clarity of mind, humility and grace as she gets ready for the hearings.

Tuesday, October 13 – Pray for the Hearings
Prayer: You, oh God, are our help and confidence. We pray Your blessings on the nomination of Judge Barrett.

Thanksgiving: We thank You for Your involvement and care for us. Who are we that You are mindful of us?

Request: Help us to be engaged and to support truth and justice through prayer and action as we help to get Judge Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court. Wednesday, October 14 – Pray for the President and His Team
Prayer: Oh Lord, Our God, we live in tumultuous times. And for such a time, You have selected President Donald J. Supplication: Help the president to grow in the knowledge of You. Help him to trust in You and not to lean on his own understanding.

Thanksgiving: We thank You for giving him wisdom in selecting judges. We are so thankful to see people who seek to preserve religious liberty and justice appointed.

Request: Believing that Judge Barrett is just such a judge, we ask You to guide her nomination every step of the way. Let not those who hate justice prevail in their schemes to stop her. May Your people rejoice, seeing Your hand involved throughout it all.

Thursday, October 15 – Pray for the U.S. Supreme Court
Prayer: Precious Lord, we lift up the U.S. Supreme Court before You today. We pray that Your justice will be the scent that guides the appetites of every Supreme Court justice.

Supplication: Stir the hearts of every one of them toward You: Chief Justice John Roberts, Associate Justices Clarence Thomas, Stephen Breyer, Samuel Alito, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and, of course, future-Justice Amy Coney Barrett.

Thanksgiving: We thank You for recent decisions guarding our freedoms (may the trend continue!).

Request: Guard the justices and their families against the dark seductions that come along with the incredible power of the positions they hold.

Friday, October 16 – Pray for the Media
Prayer: Oh Lord, help us to climb out of this awful pit we are in where so many of us cannot see the truth. Indeed, many do not want to see it. We pray specifically today for the members of our national media.

Supplication: Give them courage and curiosity. Give them a thirst for truth and justice. Send more of your people to shine a light in this important area.

Thanksgiving: We thank You for Your mercy towards our land for so many years. We thank You for our freedoms. We thank you for the freedom of the press.

Request: Help us to learn from our past mistakes, to respond to Your discipline, and to seek after all that is good and true and beautiful. Help the media, as it covers this nomination, to present truth and to reject the manipulations from those seeking personal gain from distorting Judge Barrett’s record and character.

Saturday, October 17 – Pray for the Judiciary Committee
Prayer: On this, Your day, we bless Your name, oh God. May Your will be done on Earth as in Heaven. We pray Your will over what is happening next week: the hearings of Judge Barrett.

Supplication: Help all the senators and their teams as they prepare to tackle this important task. We ask that it be conducted with grace and dignity, with respect and compassion.

Thanksgiving: In faith, we stand confident that You are in control and will frustrate the enemy’s plans at every turn.

Request: We pray for miracles in the lives of all involved, that they may see Your hand at play throughout this process. We pray specifically for the members of the Judiciary Committee: Chairman, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Ranking Member Dianna Feinstein of California, Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware, Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska, Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Sen. Joshua Hawley of Missouri, Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa, Sen. Kamala Harris of California, Sen, Mark Crapo of Idaho, Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, and Sen. John Neely Kennedy of Louisiana.

Sunday, October 18 – Pray for the U.S. Senate
Prayer: God and Father, we pray for our elected officials, especially for our senators, as they consider the nomination of Judge Amy coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court. Give them a heart and passion for truth and justice.

Supplication: Guard their hearts and minds against the schemes of those who seek to pervert justice and truth. Give them the courage to rise above partisan politics.
Thanksgiving: We thank You for the freedoms we have enjoyed for so many years. We thank you for these senators who are to represent “we the people.” Guide them in this difficult task.

Request: Help senators to think clearly and justly on this nomination. Help them to concentrate on Judge Barrett and her record, instead of the outside forces pressuring them to act for other personal interests.

Monday, October 19 – Pray for Justice in America
Prayer: Holy Father, we do not seek to be trivial but thorough. We depend on You for everything we have. We praise Your name for the very air we breathe. And we lay at Your feet the preservation of justice and righteousness in our land.

Supplication: Help us thirst for justice and remember its true meaning. Forgive us for perverting it and seeking our own prideful ways, instead of what is truly good and true.

Thanksgiving: We thank You for Your mercy and grace towards us.

Request: Help Judge (and future-Justice) Barrett to not grow cynical in the application and preservation of justice, but to depend on You more and more when the tasks and pressures associated with the position You’ve bestowed on her become increasingly harder.

Action Item: Stand Up For All Christian Conservative Women

By | Barrett, Legal, News and Events | No Comments

God’s timing is perfect. He’s never early or late but comes at the precise time. So, even though no one could have foreseen the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court at this crucial time in our nation’s history, we are thankful for the opportunity to see the first conservative, constitutionalist woman on the nation’s highest court.

Judge Barrett is exceptional. Her academic and professional credentials are second to none. She graduated at the top of her law school class, clerked for Justice Antonin Scalia, went on to private practice, became a law professor, and then an appellate court judge.

That is why the attacks we have seen against her center, not on her credentials, but on her faith and her family.

She has been attacked for being too Christian. As Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-California) shamefully said to her, “The dogma lives loudly within you.”

And she has been attacked for adopting two beautiful children from Haiti, with some calling her a “White colonizer.”

These despicable, unjust attacks on her, are an attack on all people of faith!

Women for Amy

Washington, D.C. – Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America (CWA), the largest public policy organization for women in the nation, had this to say after witnessing the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to be the next associate justice of the United States Supreme Court at the White House:

“Conservative women are rejoicing today on this significant moment where President Donald Trump has, for the first time in our nation’s history, given conservative women a voice on the nation’s highest court. Amy Coney Barrett is a constitutionalist, a top-notch legal scholar, and simply the best choice for this seat.

“Once again, President Donald Trump has delivered for America, and especially for women.

“I am honored to be here to witness this historic announcement at the White House, and I’m eager to get to work to see this nomination through a final vote.

“The happy warrior women I represent are equally ready to go to bat for one of their own. Amy Coney Barrett represents, not only the best of the legal profession, but the best of America. She is the sort of role model we want for our daughters. We are ready to fight for her!

“We are ready to stand against the unjust, and frankly bigoted attacks we’ve heard laid against Judge Barrett’s faith. We hope Senate Democrats are able to pull themselves together and rise about such anti-Christian and anti-American dogmatism. But we have already seen the table laid out by their friends in the mainstream media.

“That is why today marks the start of our campaign ‘Women for Amy.’ Conservative women will stand united in support of Amy Coney Barrett. It’s time to put the first conservative woman on United States Supreme Court.”

Meet Amy Coney Barrett

By | Barrett, Judicial Nominations, Legal, News and Events, RBG, SCOTUS | No Comments

If you have been a friend of Concerned Women for America (CWA) over the years, you only need to refamiliarize yourself with Judge Amy Barrett. CWA activists supported her nomination to the lower court, and we spoke loudly about the anti-religious, anti-Christian bigotry that characterized her opposition. We won that battle. And we will stand strong against such unconstitutional attacks on people of faith this time around.

But we want you to get to know future Justice Amy Coney Berrett now that the President is set to nominate her to the United States Supreme Court.

Personal Life

Amy Coney Barrett was born in Louisiana; she is 48 years old. She and her husband Jesse Barrett live in Indiana with their seven children. Two of the children were adopted from Haiti. One has special needs. It has been reported that the baby was diagnosed with Down Syndrome during a prenatal screening. She is a devout, pro-life, Catholic.

Academic Credentials

Judge Barrett graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican High School in New Orleans (1990). She studied English literature at Rhodes College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude (1994). She was Phi Beta Kappa and earned Most Outstanding English Major and Most Outstanding Senior Thesis.

She earned a full tuition scholarship to go to the Notre Dame Law School where she graduated with a juris doctor, summa cum laude (1997). She was the Executive Editor of the Notre Dame Law Review. She was also the recipient of the Hoynes Prize (for the best record in scholarship, deportment, and achievement), the Dean’s Award (for the best exam in Administrative Law, Civil Procedure I and II, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, First Amendment, Torts II, and Legal Research and Writing).

Legal Career

Upon graduation, Amy Coney Barret earned some prestigious judicial clerkships. First, under Judge Laurence Silberman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit (1997-1998), and later under the late, great Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (1998-1999).

Judge Barret then moved to private practice as an associate at Miller, Cassidy, Larroca & Lewin (1999-2000), and later at Baker Bots, LLP (2000-2001), two highly regarded law firms in Washington, D.C.

She later became visiting associate professor and John M. Olin Fellow in Law at the George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. (2001-2002). Then a Professor of Law, and the Diane and M.O. Miller II Research Chair in Law at the Notre Dame Law School in South Bend, Indiana (2002-2017), where she won the “Distinguished Professor of the Year” award multiple times.

In 2017, she was nominated by President Donald Trump to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit where she continues to serve with distinction.

Judicial Philosophy

Judge Barrett is a constitutionalist who believes the text of the Constitution means what it says and says what it means when looking at the original meaning as it was written at the time of its enactment. She has shown through her career that she is willing to show the judicial restraint necessary to refrain from imposing personal policy views under the guise of law. A student of Justice Scalia, she is similarly committed to originalism and stare decisis (settled law) and grappling with these legal doctrines in a way that preserves the most important principles of our founding.

She will be an outstanding addition to the United States Supreme Court.

Fox News Op-Ed: Nance: It’s time to put first conservative woman on Supreme Court

By | Barrett, Judicial Nominations, News and Events, Special Feature | No Comments

“This country was built on the fundamental idea of religious liberty and freedom of conscience. The Constitution prohibits a religious test for public office, and we have fought against those who’ve tried to impose one at different points in our history. …This unconstitutional religious bigotry is what passes as legitimate criticism against conservatives these days. We’ve been fighting it for years now,” stated Concerned Women for America’s (CWA) CEO and President, Penny Nance, in her op-ed for Fox News. Read the entire op-ed here.

Conservative Women Pray for RBG’s Family,
Prepare for Kavanaugh-Like Attacks from the Left on Any Nominee

Washington, D.C. – Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America (CWA), the largest public policy organization for women in the country, had this to say on the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:

“CWA women pray for God’s comfort over Justice Ginsburg’s family. We appreciate her role as a trailblazer for women, even as we disagreed with her judicial philosophy. May she rest in peace.

“At the same time, our happy warrior women are battle-tested and know what to expect from the left on this issue. They understand what is at stake when it comes to the U.S. Supreme Court and we are ready to withstand the left’s radical attacks on any nominee.

“If there is one thing we learned from what they did to Justice Brett Kavanaugh, it is that it doesn’t matter who the nominee is, nor his or her record. What matters to the radical left is that it is President Donald Trump’s nominee. Not even truth mattered to them with the nomination of Kavanaugh.

“But we withstood their attacks then, and we will do so again. We are ready to put another constitutionalist on the high court and stand ready to spend considerable resources to see him or her through to confirmation.”
