America’s 250th birthday is more than a milestone—it is an opportunity to recommit ourselves to preserving the faith and freedoms that have made our nation a beacon of hope to the rest of the world. Members of Concerned Women for America (CWA) of North Dakota and I took the opportunity to recommit by attending the CWA Leadership Summit, Resolute: One Nation Under God, in Washington, D.C., September 17-19. The theme verse was “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.” – Psalm 33:12
We joined hands with 600 women from across the country to declare, “Every human life is valued, family is sacred, and our nation’s security and positive impact on the world stage is essential.” Leaders from across the nation came together to share a vision for impacting the culture for Christ through prayer, education, and advocacy.
While in Washington, D.C., leaders from Concerned Women for America and Young Women for America had the honor of hearing from several distinguished members of Congress at our Legislative Briefing, and we left encouraged. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said it best: “Concerned Women for America is having its finest moment in history.” Amid nationwide lament, Concerned Women for America is prayerfully moving forward, lifting conservative leaders across the country to the Lord.
Leaders of Concerned Women for America and a leader of Young Women for America from our state met with the staff of Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-North Dakota) to thank him for his support of the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMs) Act, also known as Pregnancy.Gov. This legislation creates a web portal that provides comprehensive information about public and private resources available to families facing unexpected or particularly difficult pregnancies. Our meeting with Sen. John Hoeven (R-North Dakota) was very positive, and he committed to supporting legislation that would provide comprehensive, zip code-specific information on public and private resources available to expectant mothers.
Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-North Dakota) also met with us. She is known for her unwavering commitment to defending life. You can read more about her convictions here. “The pro-life cause is more than a political position. It’s a conviction rooted in the belief that we are called to defend the most innocent among us—the unborn—who cannot defend themselves. They have value, a right to life, and are made in the image of God. North Dakota has always been a place that values life, family, and responsibility, and it is my honor to uphold those beliefs as North Dakota’s Congresswoman,” Fedorchak said. Of course, Congresswoman Fedorchak strongly supports legislation that provides specific information on public and private resources available to expectant mothers in need.
In addition to our opportunity to talk with our members of Congress, we also did training to strengthen various aspects of our state organization, including our Prayer/Action Chapters. Our nondenominational Prayer/Action Chapter meetings serve as an arm of the Church, encouraging informed prayer and action for our nation and its leaders. We do this by educating Christians on issues that affect our Biblically based standards. If we join in prayer and action with other believers, our nation will change for the better. More importantly, we will obey the instructions in God’s Word. Ephesians 6:18 says, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for the saints.”
