Giving Thanks

By | New Mexico | No Comments

With the soon celebration of Thanksgiving all across this great nation of ours, it is only fitting that I express my deep gratitude for you, our members, and our partners in ministry.

2022 has been an amazing year of opportunity and open doors. The Lord has seen fit to allow us to engage with our elected officials through the building of relationships as a result of prayer, office visits, telephone calls, emails, and work in the field. The Lord has made a way for Concerned Women for America (CWA) of New Mexico to increase in influence through growth in our grassroots efforts by way of Prayer/Action Chapters whose purpose is to educate on the issues, pray over the issues, and act on those issues. Our CWA of New Mexico leaders across the state have received excellent training and are making a difference in their individual communities thanks to your prayers and financial investment in our organization.

I would like to share one of my favorite Thanksgiving quotes. It will be my prayer for us all during this special holiday season. “I think that it is a better thing than thanksgiving: thanks-living. How is this to be done? By a general cheerfulness of manner, by an obedience to the command of Him by whose mercy we live, by a perpetual, constant delighting of ourselves in the Lord, and by a submission of our desires to His will.” Charles Spurgeon

I would enjoy hearing from you during this Thanksgiving season. Feel free to reach out to me via email at [email protected] or give me a call at (575)770-7838.

Giving thanks for you,

Nickie McCarty

Encourage-A-Legislator Prayer Project – New Mexico

By | New Mexico | No Comments

Encourage-A-Legislator Program

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” – I Timothy 2:1-2

The Call to Prayer

I Timothy 2:1-2 instructs us to pray for our leaders. Concerned Women for America’s (CWA) Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL) program offers our members and friends the vehicle to do this in an easy and meaningful way. It ensures consistent prayer for each legislator, and it encourages and builds bridges with conservative legislators as well as those who do not normally agree with us.

Whether a legislator is a believer, non-believer, conservative, liberal, Democrat, Republican, independent, or other, they need our prayers. This next legislative session, CWA plans to deliver those prayers.

The Goal

The goal of the EAL program is to encourage each member of the State House and Senate by praying for them on a regular basis and sending them a postcard throughout the legislative session.

The EAL program is never used to lobby and, therefore, is never confrontational. It is simply a great way to lift up those in authority and encourage them in their responsibilities.

The Commitment

We provide the name and address of the assigned legislator(s) and the postcards, and you commit to praying for your assigned legislator(s) daily, if possible, while the legislature is in session, and then mail an EAL postcard monthly until the conclusion of the three-month session.

The New Mexico Legislature

The New Mexico legislature is in session from January 17 till approximately March 18 and consists of 70 House members and 42 Senate members.

Concerned Women for America of New Mexico
Applauds the SCOTUS Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade

Taos, New Mexico – New Mexico stands ready to welcome women and unborn children. Concerned Women for America (CWA) of New Mexico calls on our citizens, members of the New Mexico Legislature, and the Executive Branch to strongly support a culture of life that protects all.

CWA of New Mexico State Director Nickie McCarty, speaking for Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, has this to say concerning the Supreme Court decision:

“Last year, Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed into law a bill that actively codifies abortion up to birth in New Mexico, forces medical professionals to commit or assist in abortions, and forces New Mexico taxpayers to continue funding abortions on healthy babies and women throughout pregnancy. Now that the Supreme Court has finally overturned Roe in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, it is up to us, the people of New Mexico, to do our part. We must work tirelessly to elect legislators and a governor who support the culture of life.

“The Dobbs decision will allow the citizens of New Mexico to debate and discuss this issue with their state legislators. Decisions about abortion going forward will be made by New Mexicans, not by judges. That is ultimately a very good thing.”

But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never failing stream. –Amos 5:24

For the latest on the Dobbs breach at the Supreme Court and to read CWA’s press release, go to concernedwomen.org. You may read Penny Nance’s statement on the breach and what might be ahead, A Law Clerk’s Perspective, as well as a brief rundown on the leak from CWA’s legal counsel, Mario Diaz, and what it means for Roe, and more. Prayer: Father, we thank You that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” and we were “made in the secret place.” We ask Your forgiveness for our national killing of over 60 million precious babies in the womb. Please bring an end to this egregious stain on our nation by the overturning of Roe v. Wade and restore the integrity of the Court. Bring all states and all people to the realization that life is precious. Turn the hearts of all to honor life so every baby will be welcomed and loved. Amen

Primaries are Important – Be Sure to Vote!!
But select capable men from all the people–men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain –Exodus 18:21

The New Mexico Primary Election is Tuesday, June 7. There are important city, county, and school board races that will be decided. In addition, candidates for the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives are on the ballot, as well as a Constitutional Amendment.

Many of the winners of these races will be determined in the Primary rather than in the General Election held in November. This will be the case for many state legislative races and the U.S. House race.

If you are undecided about how to vote, feel free to call the candidates and question them about issues that are of concern to you. Many cities are scheduling candidate forums where you can hear from the candidates and ask them questions.

Here is a useful resource when researching candidates: CWALAC Congressional Scorecard.

Because of redistricting, you might be in a different district than previously, so call your county clerk to find out your correct district. You can also find your voting location online here.

If you are not registered to vote or know someone who is not registered, the last day to register to vote is Tuesday, June 7. Early voting has already begun.

So be sure to exercise your right and duty to vote!!!

Prayer: Father, we thank You that we in America have the right to vote for the candidate of our choice. We ask that You guide and direct us to choose the right person to represent us in all these important levels of government. Please ensure that our elections will be fair and honest and that You would rebuke any fraud or cheating. Let Your righteousness reign. In Jesus name, Amen.

Blessings,

Meet Nickie McCarty – New Mexico’s State Director

By | New Mexico, News and Events | No Comments

I am excited to introduce you to Nickie McCarty, Concerned Women for America’s New Mexico State Director. Nickie is a native New Mexican who grew up in Raton and has lived the last thirty years in Taos. She is married to her loving and supportive husband, Monty, and they have two sons in the military.

Nickie has a degree in accounting and teaching, a master’s in educational leadership, an associate degree in ministry, and is working on her bachelor’s degree in ministry. Nickie recently retired from the Taos Municipal Schools, where she taught math for 16 years and was the Athletic Director for ten years. She is currently the director of the children’s and youth ministries at her church and serves as the leader of the CWA Taos County Prayer/Action Chapter.

Nickie has several goals for CWA of New Mexico, including growing her current base of Prayer/Action Chapters and reversing the devasting New Mexico abortion laws. The state has the least abortion restrictions and is one of seven states that permit abortions at any stage in pregnancy. Nickie says, “It is time to put an end to this great travesty in our state and truly become the ‘Land of Enchantment!’”

Nickie looks forward to building a strong state organization that honors Christ and brings Him glory. Please reach out to Nickie today to learn of the many ways you can get involved in CWA of Mexico! You can reach Nickie by e-mail or by phone at 575-770-7838.
