Victory! Non-Public Scholarship/Teacher Grants Passes in Senate

We are pleased to report that SB189 passed in the full Senate yesterday with a vote of 23-12. Click here to check the votes. We wanted a Yes vote.

SB189 will “provide a tax credit to insurance companies that contribute to an organization providing educational scholarships to certain students and instructional supply grants to certain teachers and parents.” It will provide scholarships to non-public school students who qualify. In addition, it will offer grants to public and non-public school teachers and home school parents for instructional supplies. We know that many teachers use their own private funds for classroom supplies or student prizes.

Victory! Video Lottery Expansion Bill Defeated!

SB139 was defeated in the Senate yesterday with a vote of 13-21-1. CWA has continually opposed an expansion of gambling. Click here to check the votes. We wanted a NO vote.

SB139, an act to authorize the increase in the number of video lottery machines from ten to fifteen per establishment.

End Of State’s Involvement With Common Core Bill Defeated

HB1223 failed to get enough votes to bring the bill to the House for debate and a vote. Click here to check the votes. We wanted a YES vote.

HB1223 is an “Act to end the state’s involvement with Common Core State Standards and to prohibit the adoption of certain multistate educational standards.”

Take Action on all bills: If your legislator voted in our favor, please thank them. If you don’t know who your representatives are, then click click here to find out.

Praise God for the two victories and pray we will find a creative way to battle Common Core in South Dakota’s next legislative session.

God bless you for your faithfulness in both prayer and action.
