Simon’s Law, Sub SB 85 passed out of committee this morning!

Thank you for your prayers and action.  Prayer was and is the key!

Sub SB 85, known as “Simon’s Law,” would enact new statutes regarding life-sustaining treatment for patients younger than eighteen years of age.  Parental consent under this bill is required before a do-not-resuscitate order is issued by medical professionals.

This law is needed. There have been incidents in the past where doctors have put a do-not-resuscitate order on the records of a child without the parent’s knowledge. Medical professionals should not be allowed to make such a decision.

Status: Sub SB 85 is now in the Speaker’s office.  He will decide when it will go to the House floor for a vote.  The word is that he is agreeable to do it!  If the vote is favorable, Gov. Brownback will have the opportunity to sign another pro-life bill into law!

On February 16, I testified in support of the bill.  Click here for background information and to read my testimony.

Please Pray:  For Speaker of the House Ron Rykman (R-District 78), that he will bring Sub SB 85 to the floor for a vote.  That the members of the House will stand up for the rights of parents to protect their own children by passing this legislation.

Take Action: You can take action at this point by doing these three things:

  1. E-mail the Chairperson of the House Federal and State Committee, Rep. John Barker (R-District 70) here, and then give him a call at 785-296-7674.  Thank him for his support of Sub SB 85.
  2. Please e-mail Speaker of the House Ron Rykman here and then call him at 785-296-2302.  Ask him to “allow Substitute SB 85 to be debated on the House floor.”
  3. Finally, call your representative and ask him/her to support it with no amendments.  Click here for list.  If you don’t know who your representative is or how to contact him/her, click here.  Then click on “Find Your Legislator” and then “Search by Your Address.”

Note:  Feel free to make your calls after hours and leave a message if that is more convenient for you.  And, always be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Kansas.

Thank you for your prayers, action, and donations to Concerned Women for America of Kansas.
