Our Father in heaven,
Teach us to pray.
Transform our hearts
To desire nothing more than Your presence.
As Christ often retired
To be alone with You,
May we take pleasure and delight
In communion and communication with You.
Lord and King,
Give us the words to express
The complexities of our hearts
And our desperation for Your intervention.
Give us unselfish, humble hearts
That we may approach Your throne
With fear and trembling,
Honor, respect, and hope.
May Your Holy Spirit dwell within us,
Bringing to mind the things
We should bring before You in prayer
And praying for those things we need
Of which we are unaware.
Teach us to pray, as You taught your disciples.
Give us wisdom and understanding
Beyond our human limits.
Give us a heart for our neighbors.
May we remember the poor and frail:
The widow, the sick, those in jail.
May we remember our “enemies,”
Praying for those who persecute us, as You instructed.
And may we remember our true enemy.
That we do not fight against flesh and blood,
But against the rulers and authorities of this present darkness,
Against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
“Teach us to pray” is our prayer, oh Lord.
In Mighty Name of Jesus,
Amen.
