WASHINGTON, DC – Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) applauds the effort from concerned citizens and anti-exploitation advocates in Colorado that delayed a bill (SB26-097) that would decriminalize prostitution and soliciting for prostitution.
The Daily Signal reported, “State Sen. Nick Hinrichsen, the main sponsor of SB26-097, told the Colorado Sun that his bill lacks the necessary support to clear the Senate Judiciary Committee.” He indicated today that he will ask to have the bill “laid over” until June 2, 2026.
“When State Sen. Hinrichsen realized the outcry of concern from Colorado citizens was too great, he backed off his bill that would have authorized state-sanctioned sexual exploitation of women. We applaud the efforts of so many who worked tirelessly to expose the harms of this proposal, especially Concerned Women for America of Colorado. That said, we call on Colorado legislators to reject this bill when it is brought up again – women are not for sale,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee.
Dr. Karen Pennington, professor of nursing and State Director for Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Colorado, said, “CWA of Colorado leaders and members—along with courageous pastors, churches, pro-women organizations, and individuals across the state rightfully condemned this bill and will do so again in the future. There is no time in which we should condone decriminalizing prostitution and the pimps and johns who exploit them. Instead, we need to protect women from prostitution, not turn our government into the pimp.”
