Seven Days of Prayer for the Election – Day 7

When we pray, God moves!
Join us for seven critical days of prayer before Election Day.

Concerned Women for America was founded on prayer and action. It is an honor to have you join us as we battle for America on our knees. The following is our prayer for the day. It is in no way exhaustive. Please feel free to add to it on your own. You can download the seven-day prayer guide here.

Day #7 – Tuesday, November 8, 2022

Today is a critical day in America. Voters go to the polls to elect U.S Senators, Representatives, and other important down-ballot races. Many states will also be voting on statewide ballot measures that fall under CWA’s seven core issues. Throughout the day, would you please pray for the following:

Pray for God’s hedge of protection over our nation, even during the election.
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. Psalm 91:9-12

Pray that the election process—personnel and voting equipment—will perform with honesty and integrity.
Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight or quantity. Use honest scales and honest weights … Leviticus 19:35-36

Pray that God’s will be done, our nation be blessed with Godly and principled leaders, and His name be glorified.
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Romans 13:1

Our votes and prayers do matter. Please do both today!

Day #6 – Monday, November 7
When the ancient Israelites entered the Promised Land, their first obstacle was the great walled city of Jericho. As Joshua and the men prepared to conquer the city, God gave them a clear battle strategy. They were to walk around the great city once a day for six days without speaking one word. On the final day, they silently circled the city seven times. What went through the minds of these untrained warriors as they only heard the tramping feet of their fellow countrymen? Did they hear taunts from above as Jericho citizens jeered? They saw the great wall up close. Did they tremble in fear at the overwhelming size of this fortress city? Did they feel outnumbered and unprepared? How many realized that their only hope for victory would be from God? During the silent trek, how many called out to God in prayer? How many asked Him to do the impossible?

Today, we need God to do the impossible for us. We, too, have the opportunity to call out to Him and ask Him to give us a fair election. May He crumble our opponents like He crumbled the walls of Jericho!

Here’s a simple strategy: on the evening of November 6 (preferably before dark), go to your local polling precinct. Take a few like-minded friends and march around the building or grounds. Pray out loud or silently, asking God to make sure no fraud will succeed in the precinct the next day. Pray for only a fair vote to come from the precinct. Below are a few requests in addition to the Confession and Praise from the previous page. Please feel free to add whatever God lays on your heart. (If you can’t make it to your polling place the night before, please pray about these candidates at a convenient time as often as you can.)

Requests:
Dear Heavenly Father, we lift up this polling place. We pray there will be no tampering with machines, ballots or any confusion causing voters to mis-vote. We pray any attempts at fraud would fail and/or be caught. We ask that all ballots cast would be fair ballots. Help voters not to be deceived but to see the whole truth.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

Day #5 – Sunday, November 6, 2022
Pray that our leaders will always pursue righteousness.

Lord, may our leaders strive to be righteous;
May they see and seek Your Truth above all.
May they lead with fear and humility.
Help us to hold them accountable
To Your high standards.

Psalm 58:11 – “And men will say, ‘Surely there is a reward for the righteous; Surely there is a God who judges on earth!’”

Pray that we will vote wisely and seek the Lord in our decision-making.
Grant us wisdom; grant us discernment.
Grant it to our leaders on every level,
And help us to live out our motto,
Trusting You — Who rules in the affairs of men.

Proverbs 18:15 – “The mind of the prudent acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”

Day #4 – Saturday, November 5, 2022

Pray for the Holy Spirit to intercede on our behalf.
Lord, in a time of chaos and turmoil,
When words seem insufficient,
Draw us to our knees.
Give us the words to say.
Through the Spirit’s groanings,
Hear the petitions we cannot speak.
Lord, help us to see the world through your eyes so we may greater understand your mercy and grace.

Romans 8:26 – “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”

Pray that we will trust only in the Lord.
While we live, we shall praise You, Lord.
Blessed are the people who put their trust
Not in the might of their armies or political prowess,
But who put their trust in You, the Great I Am.

Isaiah 26: 3-4 – “The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, For in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock.”

Look for men of integrity and character.

Your grace and transforming power in our lives.

Election 2022 Forecast

By | News and Events, SPSV 2022 | No Comments

Next week is the big day. On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, voters across the country will cast their ballot for the 2022 U.S. elections that will decide the makeup of the 118th Congress.

Let us begin with the upper chamber. One Senate seat must flip in order to achieve a Republican majority, and three seats must flip in order to achieve a pro-life, pro-woman, pro-parental rights majority. The U.S. Senate is considered a toss-up. As of this writing, seats in Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada are within reach of candidates Blake Masters (R), Herschel Walker (R), and Adam Laxalt (R), respectively. These candidates, if they succeed, would replace Sen. Mark Kelly (D) of Arizona, Sen. Raphael Warnock (D) of Georgia, and Sen. Catherine Cortez-Masto (D) of Nevada. Unfortunately, these incumbents have toed the line in Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-New York) radical leftist agenda. If candidates Masters, Walker, and Laxalt succeed, it would be a message that Americans have no tolerance for the policies of the current regime.

Wisconsin is also within reach of remaining with incumbent Sen. Ron Johnson (R) and out of the hands of his opponent, Mandela Barnes. Finally, there is a chance that Sen. Pat Toomey’s (R) seat in Pennsylvania will remain within the Republican party. Candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz (R) is in a tight race with candidate and current Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman (D).

In the lower chamber, there is a strong prospect of a Republican majority. Only eight House seats must flip in order to flip the House from Democrat to Republican. About that same amount is necessary to achieve a majority that will advance pro-life, pro-woman, and pro-parental rights policy at the federal level. If this prediction holds true, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-California) is on track to be the Speaker of the House.

In light of all this, up until the day of the election, Concerned Women for America is on the She Prays She Votes bus tour to generate voter turnout among women of faith. We hit the road for a 12-state, 40-stop, 3-week tour across the country to show support for Biblical values in public policy. Speakers like Jenna Ellis, Toni McFadden, and Reps. Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) and Yvette Herrell (R-New Mexico) have joined us. With Jenna, we had the opportunity to share the importance of voting and our invaluable right to select who represents us in our government. In multiple states, we prayed with community leaders for law and policy to help moms and families with unexpected pregnancies, to protect the unborn, to reflect how God created us male and female, and to help rather than hinder parents to raise their children. Check out our roundtables on our Facebook page here.

In all this, we cannot help but marvel at the privilege to vote. Of course, President Joe Biden and his leftist policies still control the White House. Indeed, there will be legislators who do not share a Biblical worldview and work to oppose this view at every turn. However, our vote is not just about who gets to be in control of government. Voting with our values in mind is just one small way we can shine His light in a world of darkness.

We heard an important message during our bus tour stop at First Church in Pearland, Texas. As Christians, we are called to live a Christ-filled life, which includes praying for the peace of the land in which the Lord has placed us. In Jeremiah 29:11, the Lord promises: “For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” He made this promise when the Jews were in a hostile land and after commanding them to pray for the community opposed to them.

Thus, we do not anticipate all of our legislative priorities becoming law quite yet. Nevertheless, we will continue to pray for the sanctity of life, the dignity of women, and parental rights to have representation in Congress that the American people do not currently enjoy. We pray for these policies because they are consistent with Biblical values, which contribute to rather than undermine human flourishing. Even amid the challenges that lay ahead, and regardless of the outcome, we can abide in the Lord’s promise and continue to share Christ’s love because He gave it to us first.

Less than a week out … what the polls are telling us (or not)

By | News and Events, SPSV 2022 | No Comments

One of the “outtakes” from the 2020 election was the dismal state of polling and whether, or to what extent, they could be relied upon in the future. In a nutshell, pollsters were burned in 2020. Virtually every national poll leading up to the presidential election in the final week had Joe Biden beating Donald Trump handily. As it turned out, the error in those predictions was the worst showing in 40 years. Even after nine months of “diagnosing” what went wrong, the possible answers by those in the practice were guesses at best.

A few reasons for miscalculation were identified – including the wildcard of Covid 19 – but in the end, most practitioners threw their hands in the air. “Major errors” were admitted, but “no consensus on a solution has emerged” about how to fix it was the much anticipated statement from a group of top Democrat pollsters

What does the experience of 2020 tell us as we close out 2022? Should we believe the polls? Does it matter?

Even if we see a tide rising, the short answer is, polls should never be an indicator of how we respond or act. They may be a sign of hope or disappointment, but they should never influence our commitment to the process. Election integrity for us as individuals has as much to do with acting on our convictions about the importance of a representative democracy. It means to practice what we preach in prayer and action. It means we never downplay the importance of any office or initiative on the ballot, and we encourage our neighbors to recognize that, too.

If you are in a slam dunk state where the primary was the “general,” it still matters that you vote. If you are undecided on an issue or candidate for a particular office, take that matter to prayer and ask for the wisdom to know what to do. Then vote. Even if you are decided, pray anyway! Pray for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven, and for these elections and outcomes to play their part in His bigger plan. Whether or not we can trust the polls, we know in Whom we trust.

Let us pray, Lord, may the motto of our nation, in God we trust, be the result that brings honor and glory to You in this election.

Day #1 – Wednesday, November 2

Pray for healing and unity in our nation.
Holy Father, we humbly ask you to heal the hurt in our nation,
Bridge the divide that continues to grow.
Help us to recognize our need for you – our deep sickness from sin.
Help each of us to be a bandage in our communities through sharing your love.

Mark 3:24 – “If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.”

Pray for humility and repentance.
Heavenly Father, turn our eyes inward, and open our eyes to our wrongdoings.
Draw this nation back to You, that we may bring honor to Your name.

2 Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Rejoice, Even While Enduring Name-Calling

By | News and Events, Religious Liberty, SPSV 2022 | No Comments

The She Prays She Votes bus tour is a concrete representation—a tribute—to the truth that the Lord is sovereign over all things, which includes American politics. Every American has the right to civic engagement, Christians included. It is an honor that we get to be a part of the democratic process in this way.

But what to do about the name-calling? Have you been called a “hypocrite” for trying to engage in politics with a Biblical worldview? Have you been lumped in with the amorphously defined category known as “Christian Nationalist”? You are not alone. Concerned Women for America (CWA) President and CEO Penny Nance, and Annabelle Rutledge, National Director for Young Women for America, joined Washington Journal to discuss the bus tour. They were called “hypocrites” by at least one caller on the line. “Christian Nationalist” is another term that pops up from time to time in the news.

Such comments are bound to arise whenever we put ourselves out there as the face for civically engaged women of faith. It is important to understand these comments and how to respond to them. Here are some ways to think about this topic when the conversation comes up with colleagues, friends, or family. Ultimately, such labels are a result of a misunderstanding of the proper role of faith in politics.

First, we can rest on the fact that Scripture tells us to expect these slights and treat them as a blessing. In the Beatitudes, Jesus states, “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me” Matthew 5:11 (NIV). Note the emphasis on verbal attacks. This is exactly what we face in the present day when we are called “hypocrites” or “Christian Nationalist.” We can expect this when we share our belief in Scripture or share why we apply those beliefs to every aspect of our lives, including how we vote.

Why is it a blessing? The reasons are numerous. But the final caller into the Washington Journal was an immediate blessing for the bus tour team. She shared how alone she felt in her community for her belief in the Bible. She shared how encouraged she was that there was a group of people actively trying to share Jesus in the political realm. Through the name-calling, the team was given the gift of giving encouragement to a fellow believer.

We must always respond to verbal attacks firmly, respectfully, and with a Biblical perspective. Of course, no one is perfect or always does this perfectly. But with this sincere intention, the Holy Spirit will use our imperfect selves and “will teach [us] at that time what [we] should say” Luke 12:12 (NIV). When done right, we may not get the other person to vote for the same party, but that person has a shot at getting a better glimpse of the Lord because of our constructive engagement.

What about the phrase “Christian Nationalist”? The phrase often (though not exclusively) amounts to little more than name-calling. For instance, one article blames today’s “Christian nationalists” for the antisemitism towards Jews, then calls for the solution for the GOP to condemn antisemitism (it has many times over, including one condemnation from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia)). Another article throws in the word “white” for good measure. One of CWA’s core issues is support for Israel, and we abhor anti-Semitism. We also strongly condemn racism, knowing that the Lord created all of us in His image. But the phrase “Christian Nationalist” is just another convenient tool to hit well-worn media punching bags.

Sometimes, the phrase receives a veneer of credibility. “Christian Nationalism” has been mentioned by a Member of Congress in a floor speech as a threat to the nation. He cites the report by Baptist Joint Committee (BJC) and Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), “Christian Nationalism and the January 6, 2021 Insurrection.” Notably, BJC comes from a philosophy that faith must remain out of the public square. For instance, it supports the Johnson Amendment, which creates a chilling effect on religious leaders’ ability to discuss politics with congregants. FFRF frequently files suit to remove religious imagery from public property. It is important to keep these perspectives in mind. But even on the merit of the report alone, the supposed case against “Christian Nationalism” is really a superficial attack against former President Donald Trump and his supporters.

In addition to attributing qualities of racism and nativism to “Christian Nationalism,” the Member and the report lump in a host of other qualities. The report references support for “Trump and Trumpism.” The Member describes unnamed Members of Congress, unnamed officials in the previous administration, and presumably Ginni Thomas, wife of Justice Clarence Thomas on the U.S. Supreme Court. Mrs. Thomas in particular said things that—according to the Member—“smacked of White Christian nationalism.” It is a shameful accusation given that Justice Thomas, Mrs. Thomas’ husband, is African-American. Those who broke into the Capitol deserve the consequences of their actions. But “Christian Nationalism,” as it has been put forth by its theoreticians, is a label to oppose conservatives.

What are some statements one can make in response to claims of “hypocrisy” or “Christian Nationalism”? Here is a short list:

  • I am a Christian because I believe the Gospel.
  • The Gospel is God’s message to us through Scripture to reconcile us to Him because we have strayed and sinned.
  • Our reconciliation is possible because Christ died for our sin.
  • Christ’s love and role in our lives transcends, age, race, and any other category you can think.
  • Laws and government best serve the people when they reflect values in Scripture. This is true even for nonbelievers.
  • We often partner with groups of other faiths and no faith so that these values are reflected in law and policy.
  • These values are cross-sectarian because they are good.
  • Although, God wants nonbelievers to be reconciled to Him, too.
  • America was founded on principles of religious freedom and free expression.
  • The Constitution preserves my right to advocate for Biblical values.
  • Everyone has the right to vote for the candidate who most closely maps onto views rooted in their beliefs and faith, which for me is:
    • respect for the sanctity of life in order to honor God’s creation,
    • preserving the traditional family and the categories male and female in order to reflect His design for humanity, and
    • freedom to exercise one’s faith in the public square, including our jobs, in order to show His love for us and declare His glory.

Be encouraged! We can stand firm on the truth that the Lord wants the unborn child to survive, the girl to be comfortable in her own body with a loving mother and father, and the missionary to serve the vulnerable. By deciding and encouraging others to vote for the candidate that reaches this outcome, we are trying to implement Biblical values in public policy and bring human flourishing to all.

Will You Pray and Fast?

By | News and Events, SPSV 2022 | No Comments

Dear Prayer Partner,

You have probably heard it said many times during this election season that this election represents a critical turning point in our history. I believe the results of this election will determine whether or not this Republic will survive as we know it. But I also rest in the knowledge that God places people in positions of authority, and as a sovereign God, He moves them as He chooses. “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.” (Romans 13:1). “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: He turneth it whithersoever He will.” (Proverbs 21:1)

I can so relate to the story of Esther in the Old Testament.  When she was faced with the dire situation facing her country, she said,  “Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. (Esther 4:16)

Like Esther, I am asking you to consider setting aside, between now and November 8, a day of fasting and prayer for our nation and the situation in which we find ourselves. Would you fast as you can, whether it be a 24-hour fast or a shorter fast? I believe that fasting is a way of humbling ourselves before God. As we fast and pray, we acknowledge that He is sovereign over all things, and even though He does all things according to His will, He requires that His people seek His face and His plan.

“ … Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, great and awesome, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses.” (Nehemiah 4:14)

Penny Nance

The Big Pink Bus Heads Across the South

By | News and Events, SPSV 2022 | No Comments

Days Nine and Ten found the She Prays She Votes big pink bus traveling through the southern states on our way to the target states of Nevada and Arizona.  But we could not pass up the opportunity to gather our Concerned Women for America (CWA) friends as we passed through the states of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

In Alabama, we stopped in Hoover at Hoover Tactical and were joined by a great crowd of enthusiastic citizens.  Miss Tuscaloosa Teen, Ali Joy Mims, sang The Star Spangled Banner, and former state representative Paul DeMarco welcomed everyone.  Eunie Smith, head of Eagle Forum in Alabama, thanked CWA for joining Eagle Forum in their fight to squash subpoenas from the Department of Justice.  Just this week, Eagle Forum won that case!  Annabelle Rutledge, CWA’s Young Women for America (YWA) National Director, introduced Susanna Edgecomb, who is YWA’s Chapter President at the University of Alabama.  Susanna shared her story of how she came to YWA.  Annabelle and Jenna Ellis, attorney and host of the Jenna Ellis Show, challenged the people to remember what an incredible privilege it is for us to be able to exercise the right to vote.  When we vote, we vote to protect the God-given rights that were enumerated for us in the Declaration of Independence.

Ridgeland, Mississippi, (just outside of Jackson) was our second stop on Day Nine.  The highlight of our stop in Mississippi was a visit from Attorney General Lynn Fitch.  AG Fitch is a hero of the pro-life movement as she fought the Dobbs case all the way to the Supreme Court, where we saw the overthrow of Roe v. Wade.  A large crowd welcomed AG Fitch and thanked her for standing strong.  Annabelle and Jenna joined in thanking AG Fitch for her hard work.  All of them emphasized that elections have consequences.  We are where we are on the life issue because of the people who have been voted into positions of authority.   A huge thank you to Dick and Melodie Tunney (Melodie works for CWA part-time) and Jack and Tammy Lane for providing the bus crew with a home-cooked meal and wonderful southern hospitality!

Day Ten found us traveling across Louisiana headed to Houston.  We stopped off in Covington, where our Louisiana State Director, Laura Huber, and her great team put on a great event in the parking lot at Lakeshore Church.  Our very special guest at the Covington stop was Rep. Steve Scalise, Minority Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives!  It was such a privilege to welcome Rep. Scalise to the SPSV bus tour.  Listen to his comments on Facebook Live

Prayer for the 2022 Elections

By | News and Events, SPSV 2022 | No Comments

Written by Denise Cappuccio, Chief Financial Officer, Concerned Women for America

“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” Proverbs 29:2 (NKJV)

Prayer for the 2022 Elections:

Lord, we ask that Your perfect will is done in the 2022 elections, in each race taking place. Establish righteous leaders in every state across our nation. We ask you to remove those in leadership who have set their hearts and minds against You and the Truth of Your Word.

May there be many more elected officials who are “oaks of righteousness,” planted and standing with unwavering tenacity for Biblical principles. We know that following the Truth of Your word brings life and prosperity to individuals, families, and nations, and we ask for leaders who understand this principle.

Lord, we ask You to remind Your people of the importance of voting their values in this election and in future elections. Let there be a tremendous turnout of believers voting in this election! May Christians understand the urgency of the hour and all that is at stake in our country.

If there are any plots being planned to alter the results of the elections in any state, we ask that You uncover that which is hidden in darkness! Shine the light of Your truth into all areas of corruption and bring complete exposure of lies and deceit! We pray and believe that each election taking place will have truthful and accurate counts and results.

We thank You in advance, Almighty God! The future of our nation is in Your hands, and we trust You for a great turnaround in 2022!

“The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy!” Psalm 126:3

The Concerned Women for America (CWA) She Prays She Votes (SPSV) bus tour has just completed days six, seven, and eight in Georgia. We started our time in Georgia with a prayer stop at Level Grove Baptist Church. Our goal is to start the tour in each of the target states with a prayer stop to cover the state and the election with prayer. We had a wonderful group of ladies who gathered to pray. Their concern for their state was apparent, and they know that the solution begins with prayer.

We did three “meet and greet” stops. Annabelle Rutledge, CWA’s Young for America (YWA) National Director, led the program and was joined by Toni McFadden, pro-life activist; Chloe Satterfield, YWA Chapter President at Georgia Tech, and Suzi Voyles, Georgia Eagle Forum. The purpose of the “Meet and Greet” is to encourage people to vote, to talk with their family and friends about voting, to urge them to get involved in the political process as a poll worker or a poll watcher, and to do what they can to help others get to the polls.

The bus made a stop at the First Care Women’s Clinic in Marietta. What a blessing to see the ministry that God has established there. We were inspired by the work that they do. We hope that our time of prayer with them was an encouragement to them.

Young Women for America has chapters at Georgia Tech and at Kennesaw State University. We did a drive-by at those universities and took pictures and prayed over those universities.

Annabelle led a Facebook Live roundtable discussion with Chloe, Toni, and Suzi. They talked about the Georgia LIFE Act, Chloe’s stand on women’s sports, and Toni’s amazing story of redemption. Watch the roundtable discussion on Facebook Live.
