As a young leader, I’ve had the opportunity to serve the pro-life movement in a variety of ways. I’ve participated in grassroots advocacy, learned firsthand what it means to engage in public policy, and, in my current work, have experienced the life-saving efforts of a local Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC). Each day has shown me what it means to defend life while walking alongside families. As Christians, we have an innate call to defend and fight for the most vulnerable among us. As outlined in Matthew 25:40, defending the least among us is a unique way to worship Christ. However, this call should not just lead our actions but also shape the heart posture we hold. The call to be “pro-life” and “pro-family” means much more than the messages touted by the media and talking heads today.
When envisioning the pro-life movement, what comes to mind? Perhaps rallies at the Supreme Court or a large conference room filled with eager students. While powerful in their own right, these do not display the full picture of what it means to defend life in our current landscape. Rather, the greatest impact often happens on an individual level: How am I championing human dignity in my own life? What is God calling me to do personally, right where He has placed me?
Every Christian has spiritual gifts to steward uniquely. But how exactly do Christians discover how God intends for human dignity to be protected in everyday life? How can defending life and walking alongside families shift the culture?
Finding Ways to Volunteer Your Unique Talents and Gifts
Pathways, a new resource by Her PLAN, a fellow pro-life organization, helps connect people with tangible, life-affirming ministry opportunities in their local communities. By channeling someone’s skills and passions, it allows people to contribute meaningfully to building a culture of life by assisting expectant mothers with budgeting, offering a space at your church, or even committing to be a prayer warrior for a struggling woman. There is a place—and a need—for every believer in this movement.
Volunteering at a local PRC is another powerful opportunity. PRCs vastly outnumber abortion facilities and help remove many of the barriers that mothers face when choosing life. Their services exist to provide emotional and material support in ways that are practical for new and expectant moms. They often provide education, ultrasounds, pregnancy testing, and referrals to trusted resources in their communities. In addition, a variety of pro-life organizations across the nation exist to influence legislation, educate the nation, and serve through various initiatives.
The essential work of these organizations relies on three things: prayer, volunteer time, and generosity through resources. How might God be leading you to invest?
Advocating for Mothers, Fathers, and Families in Your Community
The phrase “it takes a village” isn’t just a phrase. It truly takes many people to support families so they can thrive. Advocacy and public policy play a significant role in this.
Advocacy takes many different forms—it may involve using your voice to advocate for legislation that supports families, encouraging elected officials to support pro-life legislation, or helping introduce policies that strengthen families. It could also be as simple as using your voice in elections that affect the education and development of children, such as your local school board.
It could also mean stepping into leadership roles in your community, such as teaching religious education or offering to watch children at your church. All of these efforts affirm a greater truth: life is worth defending at every age and stage.
Heart Posture from Womb to Tomb
“Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”
–Matthew 7:17-20
The core of the pro-life message is this: every human life has dignity and worth. Therefore, as believers, our heart posture toward life at all stages matters. The next time you cook a meal for a struggling family, attend a baby shower, or pray outside an abortion clinic, you are doing more than an act of service—you are helping to heal a broken culture. Ministry is often made up of small moments that impact individual lives and build up the kingdom of God.
I invite you to step into the many opportunities to affirm life around you. God has uniquely equipped each of us to serve others, and through countless small acts of faithfulness, He restores families, strengthens communities, and advances His kingdom.
