Last week, a major step was taken to protect children and taxpayers.
On August 11, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized a rule ending the use of federal Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) funding for sex-rejecting procedures for children and youth. The rule is scheduled to take effect on October 13. You can read the press release here.
Now the focus turns to the states.
CMS sent letters to nine states, including Pennsylvania, asking how and when they will implement the new requirements and ensure taxpayer dollars are not used for these procedures.
Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Pennsylvania believes our state has a responsibility to act.
In Pennsylvania, we are working to pass SB1321, the Eligibility for State Funds Act, introduced by Sen. Chris Gebhard (R-District 48). The bill would ensure that Pennsylvania taxpayer dollars are not used for sex-rejecting procedures for minors subject to federal funding restrictions.
Children deserve protection. Taxpayers deserve accountability.
