HB1195 and HB1161 are good bills to repeal the transgender policy of the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA). The SDHSAA has adopted a policy to allow “transgender” students to play on the team opposite of their assigned sex at birth. HB1195 and HB1161 would repeal that policy.
HB1195 passed in the House with a vote of 51-16, and HB1161 passed in the House with a vote of 46-23.
These bills now face stiff opposition in the Senate Education Committee Tuesday morning, March 3.
Take Action TODAY: 1.) Contact each member of the Senate Education Committee and ask them to support both HB1195 and HB1161. 2.) Contact your state senator and urge him/her to vote YES on HB1195 and HB1161. Please provide a brief reason for your position. Or, phone the Senate lobby to leave a message for your senator at (605) 773-3821. If you don’t know who your senator is, click here to find out.
Pray for each member of the Senate Education Committee. Pray the opposition to these pieces of legislation would be thwarted. Pray they will pass in both the committee and senate.
