If you stood with us in concern over what happened at Deerfield District 109, you’ll be encouraged to know that Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Illinois showed up for the fight.
On April 10, members of CWA of Illinois attended the Deerfield School Board meeting to support families advocating for privacy and safety in student locker rooms and changing areas for young girls. Our presence was peaceful, prayerful, and intentional.
We were invited to speak during the public comment portion of the meeting. Due to time restrictions, we were only allotted two minutes to address the board. Thankfully, in preparation, we had already submitted a letter to Superintendent Mike Simeck and each board member on your behalf, ensuring our full message was communicated.
Shortly after the meeting, a Windy City Times article was published, falsely characterizing our peaceful advocacy as “anti-trans” extremism. This kind of biased reporting seeks to silence anyone questioning current school policies, even when concerns are voiced respectfully and with care for all students.
Watch the full board meeting here. You can view my statement on your behalf at 1:45:20 and the CWA’s Young Women for America leader from Wheaton College, Hannah Lape, at 1:43:12.

Let us be clear—we are not anti-anyone. We are for children and families and for safeguarding parental rights and student privacy.
This issue is far from over. We will continue to monitor developments and speak out for the board to enact a policy that protects every student.
Please join us as we continue to be the voice of reason.
Action Steps:
- Whether or not you live in Deerfield, please take a moment to respectfully contact the District 109 Board of Education Members and Superintendent Mike Simeck to express your concerns. They need to know that the entire state is watching them and encouraging them to do the right thing for girls. Please encourage them to prioritize student safety, parent involvement, and transparency in their policy decisions.
