Virginia Elections: Thursday Prayer Point

Dear Fellow Virginians,
Election Day is getting close.  As we prepare ourselves to vote and elect the members of our Commonwealth legislature, we should never lose track of the number one objective as we pray for our leaders.  Our role as citizens is very simply stated for us in II Timothy 2:24-26,

“The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to each, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil having been held captive by him to do his will.”
As we pray for the election results, let us also pray for the hearts and souls of all of those who govern us, and let us pray that we will put in right standing with our God.

Create in me a clean heart O Lord and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

Daniel 9 records Daniel’s powerful prayer for the nation of Israel. Pray this prayer substituting the United States for Israel. Confess our national sins of abortion, sexual sins, drugs, alcohol, gambling, apathy, and rebellion against God, etc.

  • “Alas, O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, we have sinned, and committed iniquity, acted wickedly and rebelled, even turning aside from your commandments and ordinances.”  Daniel 9:4-5
  • “Open shame belongs to us, O Lord, to our kings, our princes and our fathers, because we have sinned against You.” Daniel 9:8
  • “So now, O God, listen to the prayer of Your servant and to his supplications, and for Your sake, O Lord, let Your face shine on Your desolate sanctuary.”  Daniel 9: 17
