Urgent!  Five Bills Need Your Voice!

By March 4, 2019Georgia

This Thursday, March 7, is Crossover Day in the Georgia state legislature. Crossover Day is the last day a bill can be considered for the session unless it has passed at least the House or Senate. Both the House and Senate are making it their priority to move really bad bills, such as horse racing, “hate crimes,” and the cultivation of marijuana bills, while allowing religious freedom and pro-life legislation to languish in committee.

Your voice is needed on the following bills.
Religious Freedom Restoration Act
SB 221 is a state-level religious freedom bill that mirrors the 1993 Federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act that was signed into law by President Bill Clinton.  Sponsored by Sen. Marty Harbin (R-Tyrone), SB 221 provides religious liberty protections for people of all faiths living in Georgia.

Immediate Action Needed!
SB 221 must get a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee this Monday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m. or it will not get a vote in the Senate before Crossover Day. Please contact the Lt. Governor and the chairman of the committee and urge them to stand on the side of religious freedom and allow the bill to be heard.

Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan (Republican) – Online contact form | Phone: (404) 656-5030
Chairman: Sen. Jesse Stone (R-Waynesboro) – E-mail: jesse.stone@senate.ga.gov | Phone: (404) 463-1314

Living Infants Fairness & Equality Act (LIFE Act)
HB 481, sponsored by Rep. Ed Setzler (R-Acworth), and its companion bill SB 218, sponsored by Sen. Bruce Thompson (R-White). This legislation recognizes the humanity of children beginning at conception and prohibits abortion from the point of a child’s having a detectable heartbeat.

Immediate Action Needed!
Contact your Georgia state senator and/or House member and ask that a vote on these bills take place before Crossover Day. Click here to find your legislators. Type in your address in the box on the right side of the page.

“Hate Crimes”
Republican State House member, Chuck Efstration (R-Dacula), is the sponsor of HB 426, a “hate crimes” bill. Should this bill pass, the government would go beyond punishing crimes and instead punish thoughts that it disapproves of. In many places, “hate crime” laws are already being used to intimidate and punish people who honor natural sexuality and value marriage as the union of one man and one woman. If a person speaks out against various sexual behaviors, they may be accused of “hate speech” and promoting “hate crimes.”

Immediate Action Needed!
HB 426 could be voted on the House any day. Contact your House member and urge him/her to vote NO on the so-called “hate crimes” bill. Click here to find your House member. Type in your address in the box on the right side of the page.

Horse Racing
The expansion of gambling is a real threat in 2019. Republican State Senator, Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta), is the sponsor of SR 84. The resolution is poised to be voted on by the full Senate this week.

Immediate Action Needed!
Make two very important contacts regarding SR 84.
Contact Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan (Republican) and tell him not to allow SR 84 to be voted on by the full Senate. The Lt. Governor campaigned on the promise not to expand predatory gambling in Georgia, and he has the power to stop this very dangerous bill.
Online contact form | Phone: (404) 656-5030
Contact your state senator and urge him/her to oppose SR 84 should it come to the floor for a vote.Click here to find your senator. Type in your address in the box on the right side of the page.

Cultivation of Marijuana
Republican State House member Micah Gravely (R- Douglasville) is the sponsor of
HB 324, a bill that will allow the cultivation of marijuana in Georgia. This is another very dangerous bill that must be stopped.

Immediate Action Needed!
HB 324 could be voted on the House any day. Contact your House member and urge him/her to vote NO on the marijuana cultivation bill. Click here to find your House member. Type in your address in the box on the right side of the page.

Please pray that the Enemy’s plans would be thwarted at every turn on horse racing, “hate crimes,” and the expansion of marijuana.

Please pray that religious freedom and life will be advanced in the state.

Pray for each legislator as you contact him or her on any issue.

Thank you for taking the time to make calls and send e-mails on five important bills.
