You’ve heard of Genderqueer, My Two Dads and Me, When Aidan Became a Brother, and The Little Engine that Could: Pride Parade. Children’s books, TV shows, and school materials riddled with LGBTQ propaganda are all but common. But last week, a new mold was broken: the Left celebrated Amelia Bonow’s forthcoming pro-abortion picture book for kindergarteners; Abortion is Everything.
In 2015, pro-abortion activist Amelia Bonow posted a status on Facebook: she just had an abortion, and she wasn’t ashamed. She was proud. In a matter of days, her hashtag “#shoutyourabortion” exploded in popularity across the internet.
Bonow used her momentum to found her non-profit, Shout Your Abortion (SYA), to promote “pro-abortion messages out in the world as wearable info/propaganda” and sell products aimed to “educate and beautify” communities with “pro-abortion posters, stickers, art, and info.”
A sampling of SYA’s products includes shirts that read “God’s plan includes abortion,” “Fund Abortions, Not War,” and “Abortion: Not Just for the Ladies”; abortion pill-themed earrings (“Mife” and “Miso”); and a growing collection of books, including My Mom Had an Abortion written by a “dyslexic-asexual-lesbian-feminist teenager.”
Bonow authored SYA’s forthcoming publication, Abortion Is Everything. Her target audience? Five-to eight-year-olds. Here is SYA’s summary of the picture book:
Abortion Is Everything speaks directly to five to eight-year-olds about what abortion is, how it might feel, and why people have abortions. With accessible, inclusive language, Abortion Is Everything frames abortion as the actualization of a uniquely human superpower: our capacity to imagine the future and make choices that lead us towards the life we envision. Abortion is a tool that allows human beings to shape our destinies, and which has shaped the entire world around us.
Of course, Abortion Is Everything is completely dishonest about “what abortion is.” Bonow writes:
Once someone becomes pregnant, three things can happen:
They have a baby.
They have a miscarriage, which is when a pregnancy ends before a person gives birth. *Sometimes a miscarriage is sad & sometimes they are a relief & sometimes they make a person feel many feelings at once.
They have an abortion, which is when a person ends their pregnancy instead of having a baby.
Under the guise of “child-accessible” language, Bonow hides the truth about abortion in generalizations and half-truths.
Bonow’s first pregnancy outcome is almost correct but falls short: a woman doesn’t “have a baby” when she gives birth; she “has a baby” from the moment of conception (96% of scientists agree). Every unborn child possesses unique DNA distinct from his or her mother, and his or her personhood is not limited by size, location, stage of development, or level of dependency. All human life bears the dignity due to humans created in the image of God—boy or girl, abled or disabled, expected or unexpected—from fertilization.
Bonow implies by omission that both miscarriage and abortion do not involve death but simply bring about the unexpected or expected “end of a pregnancy.” She misses that a miscarriage is the tragic natural death of an unborn son or daughter.
Abortion, on the other hand, is not “choice,” “destiny,” or a “human superpower,” and it does not occur before a woman “has a baby,” as Bonow suggests. Abortion is the violent, intentional, premeditated killing of a living unborn human via starvation, dismemberment without anesthesia, or poison-induced cardiac arrest.
Abortion always kills a child and overwhelmingly harms women, too: According to the European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, 60% of women report emotional distress after an abortion, and 30% of those experience “severe” distress. The chemical abortion drug (the pills that SYA sells as decorative earrings) has a proven track record of harming women, too. A staggering 11% of women experience a serious adverse medical event during DIY abortions induced by the chemical abortion drug.
Lower elementary-aged children are not equipped with the mental faculties to comprehend the fullness of death, suffering, procreation, pregnancy, and certainly not abortion (which combines all of the above)—Abortion Is Everything, then, is nothing less than pro-abortion indoctrination aimed at grooming innocent children.
After ten years of creating and selling pro-abortion propaganda (their words, not mine), Bonow’s SYA is out to groom children with a picture book. Please join Concerned Women for America (CWA) in praying against the lies packaged in Abortion Is Everything, that the dishonest words on its pages would fall flat, and that our nation’s young children would learn the inherent value of human life at every age and stage of development.
