North Carolina State Sen. Dan Bishop Recognized as Recipient of the Sen. James S. Forrester
“Outstanding Legislator in Defense of Family Values” Award
by Concerned Women for America of North Carolina

Charlotte, NC – On Saturday, May 6, Concerned Women for America of North Carolina hosted the Defender of the Faith Prayer Breakfast at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, located in Charlotte, North Carolina, and presented North Carolina State Sen. Dan Bishop with the Sen. James S. Forrester “Outstanding Legislator in Defense of Family Values” Award.

The award was presented by Mary Frances Forrester, wife of the late Sen. Forrester. Sen. Dan Bishop (R-39th District), serving in 2016 as North Carolina State Representative for District 104, was the primary author and sponsor for HB2, The Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act which became law in March 2016. Sen. Bishop continually defended this common sense law even after it was repealed in March 2017.

“It is a pleasure and privilege to present the Sen. James S. Forrester award to its fourth recipient, to someone who is rather than someone who seems to be,” Mary Frances said referencing the ideal of North Carolina’s state motto.

Jill Coward, State Director of CWA of North Carolina, added, “We are very proud to present this award to Sen. Bishop. Because of his unwavering commitment to Biblical family values. Neither this erratic culture nor the peer pressure of Sen. Bishop’s colleagues resulted in his recanting his opinion — no matter how forceful and demanding the dissenters were.”

In addition to the award for Sen. Dan Bishop, CWA of North Carolina also presented the World Evangelist Award to Dr. Billy Graham.  Roy Austin Graham, the grandson of Dr. Billy Graham, accepted the framed Resolution to be displayed in the Billy Graham Library. This resolution was proposed by the late Sen. Forrester and initially was conferred by the North Carolina Senate designating Dr. Billy Graham as a World Evangelist.

Both awards were presented by Mrs. Mary Frances Forrester as associate director for CWA of  North Carolina. In addition to acceptance remarks from the award recipients, other keynote speakers were Mario Diaz, Esq. Legal Counsel for CWA National; Dr. Tom Phillips, Executive Director, Billy Graham Library; and Tami Fitzgerald, Executive Director for NC Values Coalition.
