CONCERNED WOMEN FOR AMERICA OF WASHINGTON

JUNE 22, 2011 ACTION ALERT

PRAY, EDUCATE, INFLUENCE!

Dear CWA of Washington Member,

I want to thank each of you who has prayed for and encouraged a state legislator during the 2011 session. Paul wrote to Timothy:

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight on God Our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)

PRAY: Concerned Women for America’s Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL) campaign is one way to fulfill that responsibility. We had seventy prayer warriors this year, yet we have 147 legislators and also an executive staff who need your prayers. Please consider joining the EAL campaign for the 2012 session. I have attached the EAL form for your use. Also, if you have participated this year, please let me know if you are willing and able to do so again next year. We will send out EAL materials early in 2012 and appreciate you letting us know of your interest sometime before that.

EDUCATE: CWA’s second priority is educating Christian citizens about issues that pertain to our faith. Our six core issues are sanctity of life, religious liberty, family, pornography, education and national sovereignty, all of which CWA believes are part of protecting the American family. If you would like to read CWA’s “Biblical Support for Concerned Women for America’s Core Issues”, contact me, and I will send that brochure to you. We would like to extend our ministry into more churches in order to involve more people in public policy, so please discuss this possibility with your pastor or other church leaders.

INFLUENCE: Finally, CWA encourages and enables us to influence others, including our elected representatives, through personal contacts. As you know, CWA is in Olympia talking with legislators during each session and working with other conservative organizations to represent the Christian worldview. We need you to be the troops to back us through your telephone calls, e-mails and personal conversations with your own friends and representatives.

LEGISLATURE: Washington’s legislators finally went home! The special session was called specifically to deal with the budget fiasco, yet more bills were presented and voted on. Regarding the passage of HB 1267, the governor signed the bill which substitutes the words person and parents for woman/man and mother/father, etc, in an effort to make heterosexual and homosexual parenting equal. Please pray the “compensated surrogacy” issue that we defeated does not reappear in 2012. If it does, we will again fight and defeat it, but we will need your continuing prayers and support

MARRIAGE COALITION: Jesus stated that God made marriage between a man and a woman (Matthew 19:4-6) and marriage is the earthly example of Christ’s relationship or covenant with the church. Marriage done God’s way establishes a loving, cooperative unity between family members for mutual support and protection, yields the most productive citizens, and shields its members from unhealthy behaviors, while also passing along moral, religious and family traditions. In addition, the fifth commandment requires us to honor our parents and promises long life when we do (Exodus 20:12), so we also have that benefit!

CWA has joined a new marriage coalition. The Initiative for Moral Excellence (TIME) has united multiple organizations and individuals to stand up and fight for God’s definition of marriage. In spite of the fact that we live in a democratic Republic and our Constitution calls for a balance of power between the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government, one victim of the growing imbalance of power is the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which our current President has ordered the U. S Attorney General to no longer defend. Passed in 1996 and signed by President Clinton, this law defends God’s original definition of marriage. Man’s history has proven that this most basic institution is the best foundation for a well-functioning society and productive citizens. We’ve all watched as marriage has been attacked and disintegrated for the past fifty years. The consequences of that disintegration are generally associated with declining personal happiness and increasing social breakdown. CWA’s national website has multiple articles on those consequences: www.cwfa.org.

Therefore, the TIME coalition has formed to protect marriage from our own government and court system. If you would like to be a part of this effort to defend marriage and stop the restructuring of the family, the following links will explain the coalition’s purpose and enable you to participate:

1) To read Pastor Ken Hutcherson’s open letter to the church: click here.

2) Click here and contact your U.S. Representative and two U.S. Senators and ask them to support DOMA in every way that they can. Let them know that defending duly passed legislation is important to you.

Your support is crucial and I ask you to PRAY, EDUCATE yourself and others, then INFLUENCE by asking your church, family members, friends, etc. to get involved in reclaiming this nation for God’s purposes so that we might be a city on a hill, acting as light and salt in an increasingly dark world:

You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:13-16)

Please join the coalition and share this information with others so that we together can build a solid and long wall of defense of God’s first level of government: father, mother and their natural or adopted children. Please pray that God’s definition of marriage is preserved in our nation. IT IS TIME TO STAND UP! BE COUNTED! DEFEND THE FAITH!

In His Service Always,
