June 15, 2026, was a defining day for congressional Democrats. Over one hundred Democratic members of the House of Representatives, including party leadership, voted to bar all United States military funding to Israel.
Last month, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky 4th) proposed an amendment to an annual national defense appropriations bill to prohibit the United States from investing in military aid to Israel, claiming that “Americans want their tax dollars to be spent improving things here at home, not waging war and genocide.” His amendment saw a two-minute vote on the House floor, and in those two minutes, one hundred and three Democrats joined Rep. Massie in voting “Yes,” and only ninety-eight voted ”No.” All House Republicans, minus Massie, voted “No.”
Rank-and-file Democrats echoed Massie’s justifications for cutting aid to Israel in statements following the vote with a majority claiming that Israel is committing humanitarian atrocities and genocide in Gaza.
It is important to note that anti-Israel sentiment is not fringe among Democrats; it is top-down and mainstream. Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-California 11th) issued a statement ahead of the vote announcing her intent to vote in favor, writing that while she supports the U.S.-Israel relationship, she “agreed with the message it sends.”
House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-Massachusetts 5th), second in command to Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York 8th), justified her “Yes” in a similar statement, saying, “There is no country that should be given a blank check for military aid that is not in line with our interests and values as Americans.”
Finally, Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Massachusetts 2nd), the top Democrat on the coveted Rules Committee, led a statement with 25 progressive colleagues alleging human rights atrocities and calling for an end to the United States-Israel partnership.
With almost half of all House Democrats voting to end the United States’ strategic partnership with Israel, it is important to establish facts.
The United States’ partnership with Israel is mutually beneficial. As one of the United States’ strongest global allies, Israel stands alone in the Middle East as a flourishing stronghold for religious liberty and civil liberties, a native land and covenant-promised home for the Jewish people, and a bulwark of freedom in a region marked by Jihadi terror and militant antisemitism. Israel shares our interests and values.
As Israel faces a war on two fronts against terrorists seeking to wipe the Jewish people off the map (Hamas to the west and Iran to the east), United States military aid to Israel has never been more necessary. Israel is standing on the front lines for the free world against an Islamic nation whose motto is “Death to Israel, Death to America.” Supporting Israel as it faces our greatest global threat is crucial to the survival of our own nation.
The benefits of American aid to Israel don’t end there—our financial investment is a two-way street. In return for military aid, the United States generates a 1,000% annual return on investment, creates hundreds of thousands of American jobs, and saves billions of dollars on critical innovation, research, and intelligence. If the United States were to pull the plug on our investment, our economy would take a massive hit and hundreds of thousands of American workers and industries would stagnate.
Investing in Israel is pro-America.
Second, Rep. Massie and Democrats’ genocide claims are false and unfounded. There is no doubt that war is tragic wherever it is waged, but Israel has demonstrated a rigorous commitment to conducting a just war in Gaza against enemies with no interest in returning the favor. Even after the slaughtering of thousands of innocent Israelis in one night on October 7, 2023, Israel does not target civilian women and children. She maintains an exceptional combat-to-civilian ratio, notifies Gazans of coming attacks with roof knocking and leaflet dropping, and delivers over two million tons of humanitarian aid (food, water, medicine, and baby formula) into Gaza.
Hamas, not Israel, is the real enemy of the people of Gaza. The United Nations has confirmed that Hamas is deliberately holding humanitarian aid hostage, seeing to it that shipments do not reach their intended destinations. In September 2024, Journalist David Isaac found that Hamas had compiled 500 million dollars in wealth from stealing, hoarding, and selling food to desperate civilians. Israel has no intention of wiping out innocent Gazans in their defensive war. Hamas, on the other hand, exists to wipe out Israel and the Jewish people.
There will be no peace for Israel or innocent Gazans under Hamas, and there will be no peace for the globe if Iran is left unchecked. The West owes its safety to Israel, and the very least we can do is support our greatest ally. It just so happens that our investment is a critical boost to our economy, too.
This common sense won on June 15, 2026, but not by enough. Congressional Democrats must reckon with the growing, nonsensical anti-Israel sentiment among their own ranks.
