Concerned Women for America Responds to War on Women Comments

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee (R) said Thursday that Republicans need to take a more combative attitude toward winning the votes of women, by emphasizing that women aren’t weaklings in need of help from the government, claiming that Democrats “Insult the women of America by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing them for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government.”

Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America responds in the brief statement below:

“I have already said that that the real “War on Women” is a war of aggression by abortion proponents against women of faith. Our religious liberties do not matter to them. I agree that the President and others have profited politically from the false narrative that women are weak and need big government to be our savior. I would assert that the most important role of government for women is to insure equal justice under that law, property rights, and equal opportunity in employment and business. I also believe that both the President and the professional Left have hurt women by painting them as victims, as opposed to capable and powerful. They have also glossed over issues that keep women poor like out-of-wedlock birth. Women are tough and smart enough to handle the truth. Women deserve better then to be painted as ‘Julia’.”
