Washington, D.C. — Concerned Women for America (CWA) applauds the Trump Administration’s decision to pause $175 million in federal funding to the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) amid an investigation into potential Title IX violations tied to biological males competing in women’s sports. This move underscores the Administration’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of women’s athletics and ensuring fairness for female athletes.
“The Trump administration’s pause of $175 million in federal funding to UPenn sends a clear message: women’s sports must remain a space where female athletes can compete fairly and safely,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America. “For too long, institutions like UPenn have sidelined women’s rights under woke ideological pressures, as seen when Lia Thomas’s participation stripped opportunities from deserving athletes like Riley Gaines and others. CWA stands with the administration in holding universities accountable and protecting women’s sports.”
Background:
Concerned Women for America (CWA) has been a steadfast advocate for women’s sports, opposing policies that allow biological males to compete in female events and erode Title IX protections. In 2022, CWA protested at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at Georgia Tech, where transgender swimmer Lia Thomas competed against athletes like Riley Gaines, highlighting unfair advantages. CWA has also previously filed a civil rights complaint with the U.S. Department of Education against UPenn, supported legislative efforts, and collaborated with allies to define athletic eligibility by biological sex, ensuring a level playing field for women and girls.
