WASHINGTON, DC – Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) calls on Colorado legislators to reject SB26-097 that will decriminalize prostitution and soliciting for prostitution.

“Colorado must reject the proposal to condone the sexual exploitation of women through legislation. The state should hold pimps and johns accountable for perpetuating commercial sexual exploitation. Women are not for sale. Colorado’s bill increases the risk of violence and sexual exploitation – it does not in any way reduce the inherent harms in prostitution. Colorado must reject SB26-097,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee.

Dr. Karen Pennington, professor of nursing and State Director for Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Colorado, said, “This bill asks us to accept exploitation instead of protecting the inherent worth of the individual. Additionally, this bill preempts all other jurisdictions in Colorado from opposing decriminalization; in effect, legalizing prostitution in this state with no recourse for jurisdictions to rule otherwise. This ignores the will of the people.”
