Capitol Hill Brief — Unconstitutional Religious Test

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Article 6 of the Constitution says that “no religious test shall ever be” applied as a condition for public service in the U.S.

But Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont applied just such a test as he opposed Russell Vought to be the next deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget, because of his Christian faith.

[Audio clip] Sen. Bernie Sanders: You wrote, “Muslims do not simply have a deficient theology. They do not know God because they rejected Jesus Christ his Son and they stand condemned.” Do you believe that statement is Islamophobic?”

And it got worse from there.

Should your Christian faith disqualify you from government service? Senator Bernie Sanders thinks so. He attacked one man for his Biblical beliefs during a nomination hearing. Tell Sen. Sanders to respect our constitutional rights at www.CapitolHillBrief.org. If you’d like to hear these commentaries on the radio, find me on your local radio station.
