Calling on Christian Women, Let’s Get Out the Vote!

In mid-September, a group of Concerned Women for American (CWA) leaders from Illinois attended the CWA national conference in Washington, D.C. We heard many inspiring stories and encouraging reports, but one legislator shared an astonishing fact that served as a wake-up call to many of us. Many Christians aren’t voting!

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee) said that if we look at our congregation on any given Sunday morning, only about half of those congregants are registered to vote. And of those who are registered, only half will actually vote.

As Christian women who care about our country’s future, we can do better!

We want to encourage and equip you to vote on November 3 so that your voice is heard in your local communities, in our state, and in the federal government.

Although in-person voter registration has ended, online registration continues through October 18. You can register to vote or update your registration using this link: Illinois Online Voter Registration. Additionally, Illinois offers Grace Period Registration and Voting through Election Day. Don’t be discouraged if you missed in-person registration. You still have opportunities to register and to vote.

CWA has launched a voter website that brings many useful tools together in one place. Use this website to gather information you may need in this election or in future elections. ChristianVotes.org

If you would like to see your sample ballot before heading to the polls, use this interactive link. Sample Ballot Tool.

Please Pray: Pray for God’s will and guidance as you consider the candidates and issues on the ballot.

Take Action:

  1. If you aren’t registered to vote, get registered.
  2. Encourage your family, friends, neighbors, and fellow church members to vote on November 3.
  3. Check out CWA’s She Prays She Votes resources webpage. She Prays She Votes
  4. Contact me today to find out if there is a CWA Prayer/Action Chapter in your area. We’d love to get you plugged into a chapter.

While in Washington, D.C., we had the privilege of lobbying on behalf of CWA for the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMs) Act, also known as Pregnancy.gov. We met with staffers for Rep. Mike Bost (R-Illinois 12th) and Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D–Illinois).
