House Federal and State Affairs Committee Hearing Details:
Date: Tuesday, January 21, 2020
Time: 9:00 – 11:30 a.m.

We also pray for the committee members that their hearts will be receptive to the testimonies given that support life. We are so thankful for Your presence and we give You the glory. The outcome of all of this is in Your hands.  Amen

Join CWA of Kansas for a Candlelight Prayer Walk at the State Capitol

By | Kansas | No Comments

Please join Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Kansas for a Candlelight Prayer Walk for Life.  Capitol City Commission, Family Policy Alliance, Kansans for Life, and Catholic Charities will be joining us.

Date: December 12, 2019
Time: 4:30 p.m.
Where:  Kansas State Capitol, located at SW 8th Avenue and SW Van Buren Street, Topeka. We will meet on the ground floor of the Capitol.

Following the prayer walk, we will head to the Celtic Fox restaurant located at 118 SW 8th Avenue #202. We hope you can join us for this Dutch-treat meal.

Click here to download the event flyer.

First, we will focus our prayers on the legislators and their efforts during the upcoming session. We will then pray for the passage of the Life Amendment out of the House and Senate and then its placement on next year’s November ballot. We ask that nothing be added to the amendment; just that our elected legislators continue to regulate abortion facilities and the laws that have been passed remain as they are. We believe the Kansas Supreme Court made a serious mistake in creating a right to abortion in our state constitution. The amendment for life will rectify that decision.

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14

I hope to see you at the prayer walk on December 12!  Be sure to invite a friend.

CWA of Kansas Commemorates National Day of Fasting, Repentance, and Prayer

By | Kansas | No Comments

Before we get caught up in the upcoming season of busyness, let us cultivate a humble heart with fasting, repentance, and prayer on Thursday, November 21.

We invite you to join us in a National Day of Fasting, Repentance, and Prayer in honor of the 156th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s Proclamation 97 – Appointing a Day of National Humiliation, Fasting, and Prayer. Together let us observe and reaffirm our 16th President’s heartfelt plea to the supreme authority and just governance of Almighty God.

“Now, therefore, in compliance with the request, and fully concurring in the views of the Senate, I do by this my proclamation designate and set apart Thursday, the 30th day of April 1863, as a day of national humiliation, fasting, and prayer. And I do hereby request all the people to abstain on that day from their ordinary secular pursuits, and to unite at their several places of public worship and their respective homes in keeping the day holy to the Lord and devoted to the humble discharge of the religious duties proper to that solemn occasion.”

Fasting before we feast is a reminder that God provides everything that we need. It reminds us of who we are and who God is. It also reminds us that as we hunger physically, we also hunger spiritually. And when we repent, we are promised forgiveness. Not any ordinary forgiveness, but a complete pardon from our sins and the payment they require. Now that draws us to our knees in Thanksgiving. God has fully provided for us in Christ!

This is why our hope is not in government or elected officials or even in a grateful attitude. But, instead, our hope is firmly in Christ alone.

Mark your calendar on Thursday, November 21, the week before Thanksgiving. Whether in your car, home, classroom, or office, let us repent and seek God on behalf of ourselves and our nation

Click here to view the double-sided informational flyer.  Feel free to print and distribute liberally.

Blessings to you and yours during this Thanksgiving season!

In His Service,

License Plate Update, Thank You! and Save the Date

By | Kansas | No Comments

Choose Life License Plates Update

Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Kansas and Christians for Life are co-leading the efforts to secure 1,000 Choose Life license plate orders by January 1, 2021. The Department of Revenue requires that at least 1,000 plates be sold for $40 each before the plates can go into production.

Our efforts so far have included distributing 9,000 brochures, engaging the media (read here), inviting other groups to join in our efforts, hosting countless exhibit booths, and more!

Thank you to the 215 Kansans who have reserved their Choose Life license plates! With only three months to meet our 1,000-plate requirement, we need your help!

Take Action:

  • Reserve your Choose Life license plate TODAY. Click here for all the details on how to reserve your plate. OR
  • Do all you can to encourage others to purchase a Choose Life license plate through social media, distributing brochures (contact us to place an order), and others. Contact us to find out how you can be part of this incredible live-saving project. You are needed!

Thank You for Coming to the State Capitol!

Last week, I sent an email urging pro-life citizens to attend the Joint Judiciary Committee hearing regarding reversing the Kansas Supreme Court’s nonsensical abortion decision – and you did not disappoint! Sen. Eric Rucker (R-District 20) and others told me how very grateful they were that many of you showed up for the hearing to show your support for life.

Take Action:
Save the date! Please plan to attend a second hearing on this very important issue that is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30. Watch for more details to come.

Pray: Ask our heavenly Father to help us meet our goals for the Choose Life license plates. Pray for the hearts of the legislators who serve on the committee of the life amendment, that they will stand on the side of life.

Our heavenly Father will grant the desires of our hearts if we humble ourselves and trust in Him and His ways. One scripture I have often found helpful in various situations in my life is Psalm 37:4, “Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thy heart.”

Thank you again for all you do, and may God bless you real good!

Communities That Care Survey – Your Voice is Needed!

By | Kansas | No Comments

ACTION needed on opt-out Communities That Care Survey! We want to keep the opt in language.

Yesterday, HB 2361 passed out of the Children and Seniors Committee. The focus of this legislation is the Communities That Care Survey, which is a very invasive student health survey that CWA of Kansas very much opposes.

Currently, parents must opt their student(s) in to participate in the survey. We like this policy because schools assume the responsibility of ensuring they have parental permission to take the survey. The bill seeks to change opt-in to opt-out which is not in the best interest of parents and students.

Take Action: Contact the Speaker and House Majority Leader and urge them to not allow this bill to go before the House. Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Kansas.

  • Speaker of the House Ron Ryckman (R-District 78) Phone: 785 296-2302 | E-mail: [email protected]
  • Majority Leader Dan Hawkins (R-District 100) Phone: 785 291-7662 | E-mail: [email protected]

Please pray for our children as they go throughout their school day. Pray for the protection of their minds and hearts as they often hear and see things that are an antithesis to Biblical truths.

Thank you for all you do and considering doing this much needed task.

Kansans for Israel!

By | Kansas | No Comments

In 2017, Kansas passed a law “outlawing state agencies from engaging in contracts with entities or companies that are part of the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) campaign targeting Israel.”

Today, Kansas is furthering their support of Israel by considering SB 216, which encourages the state to invest in Israel.  Jake LaTurner, Kansas State Treasurer, has introduced this well researched bill.  Mr. LaTurner authored this op-ed to lay out some of the reasons why the legislation is worthy of consideration.

The bill would allow Kansas to invest in Israel bonds. One of Concerned Women for America’s core issues is the support for Israel. Therefore, we support any legislation that strengthens Israel and our relationship with her.

SB 216 is in the Senate Committee of Ways and Means.

Take Action! Your help is needed to pass this very important bill.   Please contact the chair and vice chair of the committee and urge them to support SB 216 and ensure it receives a fair hearing and support its final passage in the Kansas Senate.  Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Kansas.

Chairwoman Sen. Carolyn Mc Ginn (R-District 31)
785-296-7377 | [email protected]

Vice Chairman, Sen. Rick Billinger (R-District 40)
785-296-7399 | [email protected]

Additional information to share with the chair and vice chair:

“As a citizen from the State of Kansas, I STAND WITH ISRAEL. SB 216 would give Kansas the option of investing in Israel, a key trade partner, and the only democracy in the Middle East. Under current law, the Kansas Pooled Money Investment Board is only allowed to invest in U.S. Treasuries, yet Israel Bonds see a higher yield. Giving our state more investment options and sending a strong message that we support our friend Israel is a win-win.”

Save the date! A rally is in the works for March 19 to show support for SB 216 and to lobby for its passage.

Pray! Pray that SB 216 will receive a fair hearing, that many will come out and testify in support of the bill, and the bill will pass and become law. Pray also for a good turnout for the rally.

“And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, and so you shall be a blessing, and I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you, all the families of the earth will be blessed.” Genesis 12:2-3 (NASB)

Great News! Kansas Statute Now Allows Choose Life License Plates! Purchase Yours Today!

By | Kansas | No Comments

History

In 2002 the Kansas state legislature approved the Choose Life license plate. Unfortunately, the governor at the time, Bill Graves, vetoed the bill. Years of hard work by pro-life individuals and organizations was stalled.

Fast forward to February of 2018. Rep. Trevor Jacobs (R-District 4) was asked by a constituent if the state had Choose Life license plates. Rep. Jacobs immediately researched the situation to find that Kansas did not have such plates. Without delay he introduced in the House Transportation Committee, HB 2678, that would make Choose Life license plates available for purchase in Kansas.  He then asked Sen. Richard Hilderbrand (R-District 13) to introduce a companion bill in the Senate, in which he graciously obliged.

HB 2678 was then combined with other groups wanting specialty plates, it passed both the House and Senate and was signed into law July 1, 2018 by Governor Coyer.

Looking back, we give thanks to God for inspiring Rep. Jacobs at the time in which He did. Any later and it more than likely would not have been signed into law by today’s governor.

To date 33 states have now passed pro-life license plate legislation–Kansas is  proudly included.

The Plate Challenge

The Department of Revenue requires that at least 1,000 plates be sold for $40 each by January 1, 2020, before the plates can go into production. Be one of the first 1,000 to obtain a Choose Life license plate!

Christians for Life, Inc. and Concerned Women for America of Kansas are sharing the responsibility of collecting names and payments from persons who want the plates. When at least 1,000 plates are sold, the information and payments will be turned over to the Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR). Then KDOR will in turn issue all individuals a certificate of no charge that can be used to purchase the plates in their county. The plates will then be made permanently available along with all the other issue-specific plates Kansas has to offer.

The Brochure

Click here to view and print the Choose Life brochure.

Act on the Facts

  • Fill out the back panel of the brochure, or go to chooselifeplate.com, to be one of the first 1,000 people in Kansas to obtain a Choose Life license plate!
  • Encourage others to do the same! Go our website and print off the Choose Life brochure to distribute. Or, email us to order brochures to distribute.
  • Involve your church! Approach your pastor to find out if you can distribute the brochure in church.

Pray

Pray that thousands of people will purchase these plates so that the message of life is proclaimed all over the state.  Pray these plates will deter those contemplating abortion, encourage many to minister to someone they know who is contemplating abortion, and inspire many to vote accordingly.

Blessings,

Barbara Saldivar

CWA of Kansas Legislative Update

By | Kansas | No Comments

Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity (SOGI) Nondiscrimination Ordinance, HB 2130

“AN ACT concerning the Kansas act against discrimination and acts supplemental thereto; relating to sexual orientation and gender identity or expression, amending … ”

The SOGI bill, HB 2130, has been assigned to the House Federal and State Affairs Committee. Its companion bill, SB 84, has been assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

HB 2130 and SB 84 create discrimination. When “sexual orientation” or “gender identity” is added to a legal or corporate nondiscrimination code, it opens the door to policies that discriminate against people with traditional views as it attacks and opposes the notion that sexual behavior has moral dimensions. The strategy beWhen “sexual orientation” or “gender identity” is added to a legal or corporate nondiscrimination code, it opens the door to policies that discriminate against people with traditional views as it attacks and opposes the notion that sexual behavior has moral dimensions hind promoting these types of unconstitutional laws across the nation is this: transform morality into a form of bigotry and then use corporate and government power to eliminate that “bigotry.” The goal is to alter America’s cultural values and use “bigotry” as a threat in the process of elevating a certain group to a protected status above others based on sexual behaviors.

CWA of Kansas passed out talking points to several of our legislators we thought would find them helpful. They were very well received, and we have gotten great feedback about how the talking points have equipped the legislators to oppose the two pieces of legislation.

I have visited the committee chairs and vice chairs of both committees, and they have assured me that they have no intention of holding hearings on either bill. We are cautiously optimistic that the bills will not move in committee, and we will also have to be diligent to watch and pray that the bills do not get attached to another bill in the process. No action is needed at this time.

Abortion Reversal Pill Legislation, HB 2274

“AN ACT concerning abortion; relating to medication abortions; notification requirements.”

A hearing on HB 2274 was held last Wednesday in the Committee on Health and Human Services. We know that women often change their mind after taking RU486, the chemical abortion pill, so timely notice for the option to reverse an abortion is important. No matter the reason as to why a woman would change her mind after beginning a chemical abortion, she deserves the right to have available to her all the information to reverse the abortion if she so chooses. HB 2274 will provide this.

Sixty percent of abortions in Kansas are “chemical” abortions using a regimen of two doses of two different pills. By state law, the first pill is given in the presence of a physician and the second pill is taken at home. Increasingly, a significant number of women who have ingested the first abortion pill change their mind about using the second pill. Unfortunately, many do not know there is an option to reverse the abortion and save the life of their baby.

We are cautiously optimistic that the bill will pass out of committee. No action is needed at this time.

Education HB 2361, “AN ACT concerning schools; relating to the student data privacy act; certain tests, questionnaires, surveys, and examinations; amending K.S.A. 72-6316 and repealing the existing section.”

A hearing on HB 2361 was held last Wednesday before the Committee on Children and Seniors. CWA of Kansas gives Rep. Bill Rhiley (R-District 80) kudos for valiantly opposing HB 2361 at the beginning of the hearing.

CWA of Kansas opposes this bill because the Communities That Care (CTC) survey is a tool that is being used to justify suicide prevention for one thing, thus causing more social workers to be involved in the public schools. Under the current opt-in law parents have control over the survey. This brazen bill, HB 2361 denies parental rights to know what tests the public school is giving.

CWA of Kansas Special Advisor Linda Highland and member Lisa Huesers both testified as citizens against HB 2361.

Linda Highland’s testimony provided a copy of the off the wall invasive questions that sixth graders are asked. Many parents would not and do not approve. CTC is given to sixth, eighth, tenth, and twelfth graders. Thank you, Linda, for eloquently highlighting the most concerning parts of the CTC survey.

Lisa Hueser’s testified from a concerned parent’s viewpoint. Thank you, Lisa, for speaking on behalf of the parents of Kansas.

We are cautiously optimistic that the bill will not pass out of committee. No action is needed at this time.

Encourage-A-Legislator Are you an encourager? If so, you are needed in our Encourage-A-Legislator program! Regardless of a legislator’s views, party affiliation, or religious beliefs, they need our encouragement and prayers. There is a spiritual battle continually raging in our state capitol. The legislators need your daily prayers. Click here to find out more!

KANSAS – the First Legislative Body in the Country to Officially Condemn New York’s Off the Wall Abortion Law!

By | Kansas | No Comments

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” – Sen. Mary Pilcher-Cook (R-District 10) on the Senate floor quoting Martin Luther King, Jr.

The news across the country lately has shocked many. Ideas that have been and should be unthinkable, like infanticide, have been discussed as normal.

The good news is that last week the Kansas Senate became the first legislative body in the country to officially condemn New York’s off the wall abortion law. Kansas is a state that cherishes life, and we are appalled that any state in the United States would believe that New York’s law is acceptable – much less something to celebrate as many of us saw in the videos. This was a monumental day for the state of Kansas as we lead the discussion in the nation on the value of human life!

You can read SCR 1606 here.

A press conference was held on Monday, February 11. Pictured here are pro-life legislators standing behind Sen. Mary Pilcher-Cook as she presented the resolution.

We are extremely grateful for the leadership of Sens. Mary Pilcher-Cook, Ty Masterson (R-District 16), Caryn Tyson (R-District 12), Julia Lynn (R-District 9) and Senate President Susan Wagle (R-District 30) in standing strong for life.

Please take action: Email the senators listed above with a thank you. You can find their email addresses here.

Now the resolution heads to the House of Representatives, where Susan Humphries (R-District 99), will lead the discussion. As many of you know, Rep. Humphries is an excellent advocate for life.

Please take action: Email Rep. Humphries and encourage her in the work she has before her.

Pray for easy passage of the resolution in the House.

Thank you and God bless,
