Rep. Randy Forbes

An Air Force Academy cadet was recently asked to remove a verse of Scripture from his personal whiteboard that hung outside his dorm door. So what is Congress doing to stop this neglect of the cadet’s freedom of religion and to defend all of our rights to religious liberty?

CWA’s Director of House Legislation, Shari Rendall, spoke with Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Virginia) about this Air Force Academy case, and he said that Congress should not ease up on this issue because our religious liberty is imperative to the fundamental foundation of our country.

Rep. Forbes, who is the Chair of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, said, “We’re getting in a world now where the anti-faith people want to try to push faith out of every element in our lives. … That is not what our Founding Fathers had envisioned for this country.”

Rep. Forbes believes that, as a nation, we must continue to recognize the importance prayer. So, bi-partisan H.R. Resolution 547 has been introduced in the House to affirm the vital role that prayer has played throughout our American history and to recognize May 1 as the 63rd annual National Day of Prayer. But your help is needed to push this bill to the floor.

Please call your representative, as well as Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Virginia), at 202-225-3121 and encourage them to bring H.R. Res. 547 to the floor before the National Day of Prayer on May 1.
