Action Alert: Fairfax County School Board to Hold Final Vote to Add Gender Identity as a “Special Protected Class”

By June 8, 2015Virginia

Dear Friend,

Earlier this month, despite overwhelming opposition, the Fairfax County School Board (FCSB) voted to add gender identity as a “special protected class” to their non-discrimination policy.

This brazen action happened even though 500 parents came to the board meeting to oppose this effort and many more called and e-mailed the Board with their concerns.

While we were still fuming over the FCSB’s action, we learned that this policy change was not FCSB’s only objective. The goal of FCSB is to actually incorporate the new “gender identity” curriculum into the Family Life Education (FLE) lessons, making it harder for parents to shield their kids.

Some FLE lessons are also being moved out of the family life education portion of the curriculum and placed into the emotional and social health section, which will prevent parents from opting their children out of the instruction.

Students as young as kindergarten will learn about different family structures, which could include “same-sex marriage and child rearing,” and parents will not be able to do one thing about it.

In sixth grade, students will be introduced to school and community healthcare services and how to access them. This could mean your child will learn about Planned Parenthood, America’s largest contraception and abortion provider, and parental consent may not be needed.

FCSB is moving quickly to adopt this agenda unless you act now to stop them! They want your children to be taught that “sexuality is fluid and developed throughout a lifetime.”

Act Now:

  1. Submit comments on the Family Life Education curriculum revisions to FLEcomments@fcps.edu by June 19. Also, please cc Shari Rendall at srendall@cwfa.org so that we can track the number of comments submitted. You can use the sample comment or create your own.
  2. Attend the FCSB meeting on June 25, where the Board will hold a final vote on the Family Life Education Curriculum Advisory Committee’s proposed changes. The meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. at Luther Jackson Middle School, located at 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
  3. Once you have taken action, please send this alert to 2-3 additional people.

Re: Comments on the Family Life Education Curriculum Revisions

Dear Members of the Fairfax Country Public School Board,

I am writing today to urge you to oppose the Family Life Education Curriculum Revisions that will be considered on June 25. Public schools should not be teaching our children a curriculum based on ideology but rather one based on facts and science.

As one of the nation’s largest public school systems, Fairfax County should not be indoctrinating our students as young as twelve or thirteen with a radical gender ideology. These new teachings will only create more confusion for students by telling them it’s permissible to be both genders, no gender, or whatever gender they want.

Further, FCSB should oppose efforts to move topics from family life education curriculum into the health curriculum because parents cannot opt out and shield their kids from this brainwashing. FCPS should make it easier for parents to take their children out of classes with objectionable content by providing opt-out forms in the orientation packets at the beginning of the school year. Parents deserve the final say on what their children learn.

Sincerely,
