“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him: male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27
You may have been hearing about United States v. Skrmetti, the case heard on Wednesday, December 4, before the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS). The case involves a 2023 Tennessee law (Senate Bill 1) that prohibited healthcare providers from administering puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, or performing surgeries on children for the purpose of transitioning away from their biological sex.
Tennessee Attorney General, Jonathan Skrmetti, defended the law at SCOTUS saying it is necessary to protect minors from irreversible damage because of these surgeries. The leftist American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) sued Tennessee to stop them from implementing the law. The Biden Administration shamefully intervened, joining the ACLU claiming the state law violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
You may recall that in 2023, North Dakota passed HB1254 banning so-called “gender-affirming care” in North Dakota. You may watch the testimony of Rep. Bill Tveit (R-District 33), the bill’s primary sponsor, here. Currently, 26 states have laws protecting children from this kind of irreversible damage.
Concerned Women for America (CWA) was present at SCOTUS last Wednesday. CEO and President Penny Nance spoke on behalf of women who believe children should be protected from harmful drugs and surgeries that can damage them for the rest of their lives. CWA submitted an amicus brief in support of the law. Click here for a short explainer of the case. Read CWA’s Legal Counsel, Mario Diaz’s account of the hearing here.
SCOTUS is expected to announce their decision in June.
Please join me in praying:
Lord God Almighty, thank You for legislators and governors from across America who have passed laws to protect children from harmful medical treatments. We stand with them in the gap between evil forces bringing harm to vulnerable children and the truth that every child is fearfully and wonderfully made in Your image. Give each Supreme Court Justice wisdom to see the truth and protect children. Lastly, we pray for mercy for we have sinned against You by the atrocities being done under the guise of medical care. You have shown us what is good – to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God. We ask for forgiveness. “Go up and down the streets … if you can find a single person, anyone who acts justly, anyone who seeks the truth, then I will forgive the city.” Jeremiah 5:1
In His Service,
