Washington, D.C. – Last night, the Senate passed H.R. 3762, the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act of 2015. This reconciliation bill will rescind funding from ObamaCare and redirect Medicaid reimbursement funds, the source of approximately 80% of Planned Parenthood’s federal funding to comprehensive healthcare centers. CWALAC CEO and President, Penny Nance, issued the following statement in response:
“Last night was a landmark victory for the pro-life community as well as a prime example of the Senate working for the interests of its constituents. I applaud House leadership for the care that was taken while authoring this bill, Senate leadership for the strategic manner in which it was brought to the floor, and the Senate’s fervency during the almost eight-hour debate and amendment process.
“It’s no secret that Planned Parenthood is scandal ridden. In recent memory, Planned Parenthood has been accused of failing to report statutory rape, of aiding and abetting sex traffickers, and now of selling aborted baby body parts for money. The organization is currently under Congressional investigation, and it is inconceivable that such a corrupt organization would be the recipient of more than 528 billion in taxpayer dollars annually.
“Recent polls have found, yet again, that Americans are still not satisfied with the Affordable Care Act or their healthcare as a result of it. This bill’s passage opens the door for a full repeal of the cumbersome and unpopular healthcare legislation that is currently on the books and is an important step for real healthcare reform.
“Although the president has promised to veto this bill, his veto would strengthen the need for a pro-life president in the minds of the American people while we are in a crucial election year. Additionally, a presidential veto would place the moral responsibility of sending tax dollars to a corrupt organization like Planned Parenthood on the president and his legacy.”
