Dear Friends,

What a surprise! President Barack Obama is engaging in class warfare yet again!

During the recent debt ceiling debates, Obama chastised Republicans for not wanting to increase taxes when our economy is stagnant, claiming that they want to keep “egregious loopholes that benefit corporate jet owners or oil companies at a time where they’re making billions of dollars of profits.”

Yet just yesterday on CBS, Obama took seniors hostage, saying he cannot guarantee that retirees will receive their Social Security checks August 3 if Democrats and Republicans in Washington do not reach an agreement on the debt ceiling.

And, to complicate our efforts to get real change in Washington, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) waived the white flag of surrender before the House and Senate even voted on the balanced budget amendment, which is scheduled next week, and offered to give Obama unfettered ability to raise the debt ceiling. (To read CWA’s response to the McConnell proposal, please click here.)

We need your help now to make a difference! We need Congress to cut and cap its addiction to spending and balance the budget without raising taxes on American families.

Take Action:

1. Support the Balanced Budget Amendment. Call your Senators and Representative and urge them to vote for the Balanced Budget Amendment next week. The Capitol switchboard is 202-224-3121.

2. Call Senator McConnell’s office at 202-224-2541 and politely ask Senator McConnell not to pursue a policy of giving liberals in Washington an unlimited credit line.

3. Join activists around the country Thursday, July 14, at noon at your Representative’s office to ask them to sign the cut, cap and balance pledge.
