By February 12, 2016South Dakota

HB1008, An Act to restrict access to certain restrooms and locker rooms in public schools, otherwise known as the student privacy bill, passed in the Senate Education Committee today with a vote of 4-2.  Check the votes here.  (We wanted a YES vote.)

HB1008 will be debated and voted on in the full Senate Tuesday afternoon, February 16.  It is crucial that you contact your state senator and urge him to Vote YES on HB1008, the student privacy bill.  The vote will be very close.   We need you to also pass this alert on to others and share this message with your church friends.

HB1008 would protect students in the private areas in school settings.  Under HB1008, if a student identifies as the opposite of his biological sex (transgender), he may not use the same restrooms, locker rooms, etc. as his identified sex.  He must be provided private areas other than the opposite sex. HB1008 protects all students.

ACTION:  E-mail your senator here or phone him at his home phone over the weekend.  (They will not be in session on Monday.)  In addition, phone the Senate lobby and leave a message for your senator at (605) 773-3821.

It is crucial that you contact Gov. Daugaard here and phone his office at (605) 773-3212. Ask him to support HB1008, the student privacy bill.
