U.S. House of Representative Inches Closer to GOP Trifecta Ahead of Leadership Races

Concerned Women for America partners across the country helped pave the way for Biblical representation through faithful stewardship by seeking righteous leadership as we cast our votes this fall. These efforts continue to bear fruit as the path for pro-life, pro-woman, and pro-family clears in the days following Election Day. We continue to watch as the remaining results determine the makeup for the 119th Congress:

With only two dozen seats left for a final call in the Lower Chamber, the GOP has a strong lead on their way to a full Election Day sweep. The party hopefully awaits as leadership races begin next week.

The Associated Press currently projects 211 Republican seats to 199 Democrat seats, leaving 25 uncalled races.

Pro-life Republican Mariannette Miller Meeks is defending her seat Representing Iowa-1st in a contest against Christina Bohannan (D). Miller Meeks is holding the race at 50.1% to 49.9%: there are an estimated 3,500 votes left to count (1%).

Maine’s Second Congressional race remains close with moderate Democrat Jared Golden leading his Republican opponent Austin Theriault 50.2% to 49.7%. Theriault has already called for a recount and Golden declared victory, though major outlets have not projected a winner and counties are still counting votes.

President-Elect Donald Trump won Alaska’s 3 electoral votes by 15%, but the state’s lone Congressional seat remains a close fight. Republican Nick Begich is just shy of the necessary 50%-point count. If he does not cross the majority threshold in the 102,000 estimated remaining votes, they will begin rank-choice voting systems to determine the winner.

Republican candidates lead 6 of the remaining 12 races left to call in California. Arizona’s two remaining seats are split, one race leaning red and the other blue. Democrats have an edge in close races in Oregon-5th and Washington-3rd, but Colorado-8th and Maine-2nd are nearly deadlocked.

Only seven seats away from securing control, House Republicans appear confident heading into next week’s leadership races. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana-4th) released a letter recognizing a strong responsibility for House Republicans:

The mandate that has been delivered shows that a majority of Americans are eager for secure borders, lower costs, peace through strength, and a return to common sense. With unified Republican government, if we meet this historic moment together, the next two years can result in the most consequential Congress of the modern era.

Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana-1st) also sent a letter to his House colleagues emphasizing unity with the White House to provide relief to the American people. His agenda similarly highlights lowering tax rates and securing the border. He also notes unified control is a “historic opportunity to use the budget reconciliation process to accomplish our goals with simple majorities in both Chambers.” Find the rest of the agenda here.

Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee is eager to begin working with the 119th Congress to promote Biblical values and Constitutional principles in public policy. We are grateful for leaders like Speaker Johnson and Majority Leader Scalise for their faithful leadership of the 118th Congress and their bold defense of life and family values.

As we await the final results, please remain prayerful over the 25 uncalled races. We also ask that you continue praying for our elected leaders as they conclude the final months of this Congress and prepare for the new season of leadership in the District.
