February 18 was Crossover Day in the Virginia General Assembly. Thankfully, many egregious bills that we were praying against have died in committee.
However, there is still work to be done.
While CWA of Virginia focuses on legislation that directly affects the family, one of our core issues is National Sovereignty, which includes fair elections.
Most of you have probably heard about a constitutional amendment that would allow the Virginia General Assembly to redraw our congressional district lines. The Virginia Department of Elections has posted the proposed ballot question that will read as follows:
“Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?”
We italicized two important words that are objectively deceptive.
Voters in Virginia do not register with political parties. However, it is possible to get a sense of the state’s political makeup from past voting records. In the 2024 presidential election, 46% of the votes went to President Trump. In the 2025 election, 42% of votes went to Lt. Governor Sears. So we can say roughly 42 to 46% of Virginians vote Republican.
Currently, Virginia has eleven congressional seats. Of those, five are Republican, and six are Democrat. In percentages, Republicans have 45% of Virginia’s congressional seats, which reasonably reflects the voting public.
However, under the proposed congressional lines, Democrats would likely win 10 of Virginia’s 11 seats, or 91% of Virginia’s congressional seats, which would be a gross overrepresentation of Democratic voters.
For this reason, the Republicans have filed suit, once again, arguing that the ballot question is misleading.
What you can do:
- Educate yourself and your friends about this issue.
- Please forward this e-alert to your friends and family.
- Email your lawmakers and let them know that you oppose this wording of the amendment. You can find your representatives here. Let them know that you are being updated by Concerned Women for America of Virginia.
How you can pray:
Dear Heavenly Father, we ask that You would bring clarity of sight to our lawmakers. We ask that they surrender their will to Yours, seek Your wisdom above all else, and walk in humility and truth. We pray for unity within both the House and the Senate and for the courage to do what is right. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
