WASHINGTON, DC –

Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) applauds Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR) for the introduction of theHomes for American Families Act, which would ban large institutional investors from buying single-family housing, condos, or townhomes. This bill shares the same goal asPresident Donald J. Trump’sExecutive Order, “StoppingWallStreet fromCompeting with Main StreetHomebuyers,” to make housing more affordable for everyday Americans.

“Housing affordability is increasingly top of mind for many of the women I represent, including, not surprisingly, our Young Women for America (YWA) leaders who are beginning their careers and starting their families. This bill will make the purchase of single-family homes more affordable, addressing a critical economic issue facing our country that President Trump wants to solve. We urge Congress to pass this bill,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee.

The latest data show that first-time home buyers overall accounted for only 21% of all home buyers—the lowest share on record since tracking began in 1981. And single women account for 25% of all first-time buyers.

“The housing crisis is driven by many factors, including affordability challenges, high interest rates, and limited inventory. We are grateful for President Trump, and Sens. Hawley’s and Merkley’s leadership in addressing an issue that affects so many women and families,” said Nance.
